  1. Go to your profile and select it, then in the drop down menu select Account Settings, then in the overview menu on the lower left hand side of the screen select Signature and insert all the pertinent information (hardware, etc.).

Yes, i tried the -26 last night and it wouldnt budge. I figured dropping it to -26 and adding 30" to the ceiling height would work but it didnt.

Oh, I thought when you said you had already tried that, "it wouldn't budge"? Glad you got it to work.

  3. Rob,you mind sharing how you fixed (what needed to happen) it? Or have you? I've never experienced the same issue you did, and it might help me help someone else some time.

I had a lakefront I did back in 2014 that had an original home that had three levels, including a basement, and the new 11,000SF home they wanted designed had four levels....if it hadn't been for Glenn Woodward taking time out of his busy schedule to do Skype......and show me how to set up the different levels?!?!?!?! These forum guys are really great....short answers and all!

  4. Rob, I'm sorry you're offended by anyone's reply to your post/questions for help.  Truth is, the guy's that usually respond (Solver is one of them) are extremely busy doing their own work, yet stop to take the time to help US. Some times the answer is simple, but if they have to guess at what the problem is (since there isn't always a 1-2-3 answer) it is frustrating to stop their work to help Me, if they have to "guess" what the issue may be cause by. Posting the plan always helps get quick solid answers.

Gosh, I've been made fun of (I've had it said, you seem to have had the soft ware a long time and yet don't understand how to do this or that). And one time......you have so maybe things that need fixing I don't know where to start...……….well, in my case it was definitely the truth.  I for one appreciate Solver's answers on previous issues he's helped me with, and I've learned to cut-to-the chase, if my issue has to do with a plan I'm working on, I post the plan with my question, and usually get answer PDQ!

When I first saw the thread about the new features in X11 and SPV I thought "wow" I'm just starting to catch on to Layer and Annosets.

I think I wore the question out about "didn't we still have to set up Annosets" etc., to work with the SPV tool;  and since I didn't get to use the software on a regular basis (because of my job description) I see so much I still have to learn!

And just now am getting to use it much more often since the boss saw that he could save some Design fees on our DB projects, I'm just now (almost every day) using it more, and with that, I must, and am  able to read the KB's, watch the specific Training Vids. I want to learn and use Saved Plan Views, but as with all the other great tools, I need to learn to use it correctly! The training videos are great, but are done with the Skilled User in mind, therefore some of the information I need to learn the tools, I have to get from you guys on the Forum who are willing to either explain it or provide me with a video that helps fill in those gaps of information I need.

    I'm definitely grateful!!!!!

Hope this helps. I think you may need to revisit some of Chief's terms and standards and get a better idea of some of the intentions behind each template and their purpose.

    BOB'S LAYOUT TEMPLATE.layout

Great video Larry! By series of layout templates (I mean) for my office use I have 13x19 print size (for my wife format printer) layout template; so I don’t have to send them out to print.I also have a 24x36 (I do have to send out for printing) when I’m doing anything that has to go through the local code guy here. I am also setting up two others for two other jurisdictions that require a certain size print .

I understand the page process, that’s the way I’ve been doing previous projects. Page zero is my default for all other pages in the same plan.

What I wanted to do is exactly what you show in your video. That way I have each discipline in one layout file saved  for a project, instead of several separate layout files for each projects discepline.

I will watch your video a couple more times then open one of my layout templates I’ve created and practice the process!

    thanks as always!

Couple things going on. Certainly check out Eric's link which gives some insight in to creating numbering schemes that allow for each discipline (A, G, S, etc.) in a SINGLE Layout. That may be all you need to serve the purpose as you've described it.

A Layout Template is a template you can re-use for future Layouts and a Page Template is an entirely new Layout Sheet design that you create in Layout and then specify for any page you want to use that Page template. Might actually be what you want but you might be able ti use just the number system as described in the link above.

Thanks Larry. This is one of the earlier Vid's I found. I've already watched this one a couple or more times. I guess I'm too thick - skulled and it seems slow at sinking in, although I started my new series of templates after watching it the first time, that's when I realized I wasn't doing something correctly. Maybe after I read the KB article Eric sent me I can connect to two and that little light will pop on in my head! [EDIT] I got your last post after posting this response.

  8. I'm biting the bullet to ask for help since I searched the forum under several key words and could not find the answer. I have also watched several of the videos, and searched the Knowledge base, on Creating Layout templates, which is what I am attempting to do in X11.  I migrated all my layout temps from X10., I wasn't able to do what I wanted in X10 which is to have each discipline have its own default page template, (this is required by Code here) i.e. G sheets for the Gen'l (code related) info, A for Architectural of course, S for structural and so on.  In one of the Videos showing setting up layout templates the presenter says you can create multiple Page templates (it implies to use in the same plan), but never shows you how.  Maybe one of the others does????? What I have done in X10, since I couldn't figure it out, was set up a file for each discipline, saved each with the project name then and extension like .generalinfo.layout, project name.architectural.layout and so on. I set up different layers / annos in my plan to show what the AHJ wanted included. Of course; you can't have more than one layout file open at a time, so;  when sending say electrical plan / details I had to close my Arch layout, and open the projectname.electrical.layout file to send the information to.  A lot of work, printing each discipline to PDF, then combining all of them into one PDF file to send to printer etc.

I'm pretty sure I saw the topic or something similar on the forum, after looking through a 100 or so post supposedly related to the topic I haven't run up on it.

Thanks for your patients and help!

Creating multiple Default page templates for the same plan.png

  9. Again, I'm not sure, I do know you should be able to edit the Legend once you place it in your plan. Most legends and schedules are populated by MACROS (not in my pay grade yet) too much else for me to keep up with, but, I did create some Plumbing fixture / pipe symbols for a project the Local code guy wanted in a plan I submitted, and I simply added the symbols to my user library, then inserted each one into my plumbing legend but that was back in X10.

I'm probably making it harder than it should be.  Lets see if the guys that do this all the time will jump in.

So, to create a signature, you go to the profile you created when you jointed the forum, which should be in the upper right hand corner, click on it. The drop down menu should open then, select account settings>then in that menu scroll down to Signature> when it opens just fill out the info you want to include. The link I shared in a previous reply was to David J Potters Video that shows how he has his filled out. Again, having this information will help especially if you have future or further questions you need help with. Also the computer hardware info helps.

  10. I don't have X9 loaded not sure if the legend is located the same. Did you type in Electrical in the library browser? In X9 you may have to go to Interior Fixtures>Electrical>?

Perhaps one of the REAL CA gurus will give you the CORRECT answer.

Use this link to see how to fill out your signature:

  11. Usually has to do with missing data, or compatibility (i.e. paper space, xreferencing or unsupported file formats). I don't know how to correct it, but the last time it happened to me I sent the cad file back to the designer and he update the export to a 2018 file version to work with my X10 (at the time) and it worked fine then.

  12. Joe, I don't think there are any plumbing fittings in the library. I had previously done a search in X10 for fittings, and also manf. catalogue that might have fittings, but wound up modelling my own with P-solids and saving each one / type in my User Library under Plumbing. Naming each one to type (i.e. wye, 90, etc.)

  13. I don't think so.  If I understand what you want to do? I usually open the layout then select the floor plan in layout which should open the link plan file.  Then with both open, Save the open plan with a new .plan name, copy the name, then save the layout as .layout with the new plan name. Example gardenhouse.layout open select floor plan, click on it, then gardenhouse.plan opens. Now save gardenhouse.plan as maybe? gardenhouse2.plan, save the layout as gardenhouse2.layout.

Is that what you are trying to achieve? More trouble than re-linking?

  14. I hope I'm correct, but I believe that has to do with setting up your layer display, one for manual dims the other without. Turn off the Dims in the Layer set and save it a plan view no dims or something like that?

Edit, maybe I was close.  Larry beat me to the punch!

  15. This may not work, but open the program and select File>Open Plan from the menu, Browse to your program's Data folder, which is located in the Documents directory, and open the Archives folder. Locate the Archive folder with the name of the file that your hoping to recover. You should have at least 2 maybe 3 saved versions of the file. you could open the latest file and it may be ok, or the next to the latest and start from there.

EDIT: I figured the guru's would jump on and help solve it. Way to go Mick!

I’m not sure I totally understand your question, but I think you’re maybe just overthinking things.  As soon as you SAVE a Plan View, it will remember the layer set, the Reference Display settings, whether color is toggled on and off, and all the Active Defaults amongst other things (including the option to remember floor and/or zoom setting).  If you save the plan view using a specific annotation set then it will remember the annotation set, otherwise it will

just remember your ala carts active defaults.

To old and new users alike, I would just suggest that you make sure you fully understand what your Active Defaults are.  Annotation sets are not a complicated critter.  All they are is a set group of Active Defaults.  If you are simply using annotation sets to change your Active Defaults in one fell swoop the Plan Views will do all of that.  The big kicker here is that they can also do a lot more than that though.  Open a Saved Plan View from the project browser and you can pretty quickly see all the things they can be set to remember.

Now to anyone trying to teach or help new users, I would really encourage you to make sure you fully understand Plan Views before teaching or encouraging them to use Annotation Sets “the old way”.  Yes, tell them what annotation sets do (change your Active Defaults as group), but I really think you’ll be setting them up with an inferior workflow if you ignore Plan Views.

Michael, I actually like the idea of using plan Views, but; if I am going to start using them at some point (I think I remember Glenn W., maybe someone else) back when I was making a messing up trying to set up LA and AS, suggested then I start using Plan views? But, anyway, obviously PV's don't set the LS and AS up automatically correct? That's MY question, we still have to set up Layer Sets (say for instance in my local an HVAC set, requires HVAC items displayed but not necessarily Cabinets for example, and an Anno set with all the attributes would need to be set up as well for any of the details associated with that layer? Then Once you've done that you save a plan view say HVAC Plan View. And when you switch back and forth say from you framing plan view to your HVAC plan view the layer and Anno are there? Right?
