Getting ready to start this remodel project for a non-profit, and have set up my plan and layout templates, but before I began modeling the as-built I was hoping to get suggestions on how to model the end exterior walls (for lack of the correct terminology I'll call them buttress walls although their not true-buttress).   I thought perhaps the best way was to model them as their own rooms, setting the ceiling height as-needed to get the projection beyond and above the other walls, correctly, and shaping the walls with the wall elevation tool.  Then draw the remaining exterior walls between these. Suggestions appreciated. I didn't know how to do a key word search on the forum for this one, but after several futile attempts found nothing. I am aware for each type of wall, I will have to create it's own wall type, but wasn't sure how to do these two end walls. I don't have a plan to post (yet).

    Dermot, the existing stairs are open. I tried the closed stringer and it closes the entire bottom of the stair (I didn't see a way to limit it) and I think she wants only the part from the intersection of the stair with the vertical wall of the kitchen closed.

  3. Kate, first delete the sloped soffit, then use a ceiling plane. Be sure to start the CP on the wall that the stair intersects and draw it away from that wall to get it to slope up in the direction of the stair rise.  Then select the ceiling plane open the dbx and play with the angle and height. I think that is the easiest way in my (humble opinion)? Maybe not? Hopefully the real experts will have a more simpler way? You will need to adjust the thickness in the structure tab>edit to get the depth like you want. You'll probably have to do a PL solid or material region to close the open end of the CP once you get it like you want it?

    EDIT: P:S go to your profile in the upper right hand corner click on settings, and the new menu that opens select signature, and add the software version your are using along with your computer hardware info as you will find the more you use the forum, you will get quicker / better answers in the future.

  5. I used a room divider (to separate the deck room from the house interior), drew it parallel with the ext wall between deck and interior and around the fire place, made it invisible. The window wall disappeared so I had to draw the walls and windows back in but unless I missing something it appeared to fix it? This may not be the way to do it?

  6. You might try making a room polyline from the Glassed in room you created, then convert it to a terrain feature as far as 

    1. Ensure there is fall on the floor etc.Using the make room polyline and converting it to a terrain feature,  I would possibly make a layer specific to the "garden room" and turn off unnecessary items (if there are any) that you don't wish to show. This is the simplest in my mind. Notes as needed.

    2. I think that can be handled by noting it on the floor plan, but you can do a section through the room, do a cad detail from view and then add any special features.

    3. That too can be done by changing the material of the terrain feature to a stone or pebble texture from the Library

    4. Use the library to find the items you wish to place.

    Using poly solids you can add borders, edging?, vary pathways etc. (I believe).

    I'd like think this is the best more direct way, but Hopefully the Guru's will jump in and give you an even better idea or even more simpler way to do it?

    I am very new to Chief Architect and I am trying to find the best way to create a shower dam (the short 3" wall on the floor of a shower that prevents the water from escaping out of the shower), This wall will also hold the glass walls and doors that the user will access the shower from. Is that created by doing a pony wall, with a 3" lower half or is there a better and easier way to create this?

     

    NOTE: I am using version x11 Interiors (not the PRO version)

    You should be able to do the Pony Wall with glass, and set the height of the lower half to 3", ok

    Billy, it would be best if you post the plan (take it from me) or you'll just keep getting "best guesses" and aside from it taking the answerer away from their work, (not being mean) it is a waste of their time, and yours if you really want a good answer, (and quicker in most cases) post the plan.

    You see that you have a folder with many selections for "River Rocks"

    My folder I have 2 selections for river rocks.

     

    Where can I get the folder that you are showing.

    Not sure why your folder doesn't look like mine.  I opened X10 and did the search for River Rock. One of the folders is the CA X10 folder and it has three basic. Don't know how many more you'll find in CA X10. I looked in my X11 has the same folder. Maybe one of the real CA guru's will jump in and offer advice. Sorry I can't help more. Use the Link Eric (Solver) posted and see if you find what you need. 

    One of the manufacturer's catalogs I previously downloaded (Boral) has a number of Stone / Pebble look textures under "Expose". If you go to the CA 3D Library and search for boral, down load their catalog then open your library browser, >Manufacturer Catalogs>Expose and take a look at those textures?

  11. Maybe "its" in a catalogue? Which It? The Border?  I don't think there is any available in CA X10 library, but you can  make it. I assume you have the planter bed laid out? in Plan use Terrain feature tool, draw a Spline retaining wall. Open the DBX set the height, change the material to something close to what you want to achieve. See if that works for you or at least gets you close.

    Impossible to know what you are doing wrong when we have no idea since we don't have anything to look at (render or plan file). If you do decide to post the plan file, be sure to save and close completely. If the plan file is too large, you can zip it and post usually works.

    Not sure why you cannot select and change default. Are you in your template plan or opened in a new plan?  Either way it should only be necessary for you to go to your default settings>Floors and Rooms>Edit>Current floor>Moldings and change it there.

     

    If you change it in your template plan, then each time you start a new plan using that template it should remain as you set it. Perhaps if you posted the plan you're having this issue with you will get a good answer?
