  1. Perry, I agree, stand by my original take Chief programers are like dogs at a fire hydrant. Loads of this to fix before we need this new format. I liked it when I could choose from vids from a certain version. Good luck to the guys drawing on their phones. Their eyesight is better than mine.

  2. I just went to the training vids on Chief and find everything is changed. Why are the programers like dogs and a fire hydrant. I for one had no problem with the old format, it was easy and straight forward. I'm amazed that with all the little things that need fixing in Chief why spend time on something theat did not seem to be broken.

Just imagine this is not your plan and somebody posts this info.

Do you really think you would spend time trying to figure out what the heck you are talking about without a plan.

    I give up.

I don't have any experience with Vectorworks, but all of these illustrations could be approximated pretty close in Chief, and not take a tremendous amount of time. You just have to think about the approach differently.

I agree a freehand/lasso tool would be a great addition.

    Bryce,

The main problem is simple; Chief was created for builders, Vector works was created for Architects. Very different types. I don't mean to disparage and start a war. I grew up in a contractors house then became an architect. Two similar but radically different worlds.

Those of us that work on commercial projects and custom residences are usually frustrated with the short comings of chief.

I have all my Chief Projects in a Dropbox Folder.  This works well for me as I have 3 different computers that I use and I'm always working on the latest version of a Plan and/or Layout.

I'm considering placing the Chief Data Folder (Library, Templates, Scripts, Toolbars, Hotkeys, etc) in Dropbox as well.

Has anyone else done this?  Other than having to change the location in Preferences would there be any problem?

We happen to use Sugar sync for our projects, it works well and updates automatically.

  6. I am designing my first house with 9' ceilings throughout. What is the best window and door heights for 9' ceilings. I have read 7'8" for windows but then my doors will be lower at the normal 6'8". Or do I get 8' doors and go with even taller windows. This is a house that we are building to sell and want to do it the most cost effective way. Thanks in advance!

If you goo in the middle and use 7'-0 yu will find more doors a t a beter price cause that is sort of commercial std.

  7. I am interested in learning how to do landscape plans in  Chief.  Does anybody have something they can share?  Either PDF's or files.  I would consider doing a workshop on landscape plans if anybody was interested.

I have a few ideas that I would like to run by anybody that has some expertise with landscape plans.  One of the topics I would be interested in would be discussing creating unique symbols for the different plants and trees.

I did all my landscape plans in VCAD. Developed my own symbols and sprinkler info. But it was 2d only. Chief is way to cumbersome to do that.

  8. That my friend is very good.  You put the strapping in the CEILING FINISH dbx.  Very nice.

But wait,  why can't we specify the joists going in one direction and the strapping/or dropped ceiling joists going in the other direction?

Maybe if an architect was on staff,  he would of  picked this up.

BTW,  in the past  (several years ago) I have requested the ability to have ceiling/floor joists running in one direction and having the dropped ceiling joists/strapping running in the other direction.

I wonder if this is a good feature request?

CHIEF DOES NOT NEED ARCHITECTS, THEY HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS
