  1. Hi everyone. I have a difficult time getting floors plans to insert into individual layout sheets at a common reference point. I would like it so the plans don't move around and are consistent on all the sheets. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help.  Matt

If I have a problem I send the first floor plan then add a line to a common snap point. Copy the point to the next sheet then send the next floor and then I use point to point move to line up the plans or any other thing I want in the same position ion other sheets

  2. This is a selection of new door knobs for interior and exterior doors. I did not create these, just imported from Sketchup and adjusted for Chief.

They all work with a standard Up from Bottom setting of 36".

The In from Side setting may have to be adjusted for your door type.

    See attached thumbnails for previews!

    Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

  3.

In X-6 they did some work on rim joists.  I don't know what they did because nothing seems to work for me.  Does anybody see an improvement?

-I still can't specify I do not want a rim joist under a particular wall (I want a beam)

Draw a beam at that location

-I still can't specify no rim joists ever,  and then specify rim joist under a particular wall

Draw a Joist at that location

Working on a plan right now:

-In several instances I have a double rim joist under a wall,  I want a single (can't change it)

    Just Delete one of them

-In several instances I have a single rim joist under a wall,  I want a double (can't change it)

Copy the one that's there 1-1/2" away

I just don't understand why I am having to mess with this crap.  Didn't the BETA TESTERS send in reports on this and if reports were sent in,  would they of fixed this?

You were one of the Beta Testers.....  Did you send in a report on this? :P

    Just nonsense.

Are you two related; you sound like my kids

We need a DSH Video. On my way home just now I check Troll Alley under the bridge and there were no rim joists either FYI

  5. I'm modelling my son's home for a reno. The attached photo shows the roof planes of the deck over the kitchen alcove. My other plan image shows the auto roof generation. I've tried all kinds of manual roof plane manipulation, with no success. It seems to me I would need a gable wall on the house side to generate the desired roof, but of course there's no wall there.

Is there some simple setting I'm missing, or does this require some fancy roof plane manipulation?? ^_^

Break the roof and add the other planes manually.

  6. I hit the wrong button at published to early.  I abhor WORK-A-ROUNDS. I have trouble with, in my old mind, the way doors don't work, schedules are terrible, slabs are another thing. Construction documents are 100% better but not there yet in my mind. I hope I've not offended anyone, it is not my intent.

  7. Lew,

Anno-sets have been around for a while now and I just can't understand why everyone isn't using it. Anno-sets are one of Chief's  #1 "time savers" of all

time. Once set up its done and you never have to think about again.

I'm not using them due to my unique use of Chief over the years. I'm an old Dog and it isn't easy to teach me new tricks. When I started with ART's chief architect with version 4 it was far from the product it is today. I had used VCAD for almost 10 years. Cad at that time was way faster than Chief, therefore I would do preliminaries in Chief; DFX them out, and complete the project in VCAD. I could message elevations and sections in VCAD way faster than Chief. I have reciently started to use chief more, so my learning curve is way off due to my history with Chief. Scott calls me a chromogen sometimes for my complaining.

  8.  Someone sent me a dxf drawing but it comes up very small once I import it. Is there a way to get it to scale once it's imported. Or a specific way I should tell someone to export it so it will come to Chief Architect to scale?

Try bringing it in as Feet.

  9. Hi all

I have sent 3 pdf blocks to layout from 3 separate CAD details. (They were images that we blocked with some lines and added to the library to save re-drawing them) the problem is that my pdf writer is screwing two of the images throwing them over my title block and not where they show on my layout page. They show correctly on the layout page and print correctly on my A3 printer, however, they don't print correctly on the pdf writer.

Any ideas on how to fix?

    Steve (NZ)attachicon.gifsht9.pdf

My guess is your between a rock and a hard place. Adobe will say it's Chief's problem and Chief may say it's an Adobe problem. In this age of sore customer service you will have luck with Chief but not much with Adobe.

  10. I thought I wasn't allowed to post the other day as well, but it turned out I wasn't logged in. This new system seems to kick me out all the time whereas I don't remember logging very often in the old one, it just remembered me somehow. Maybe there is a cookie issue.

Same here, the new system does not do very well in that regard. About twice a week I have to re-sign-in. Whats up with that?

  11. Hay, I just got back on, thanks guys and don't give me anymore red things. They must have put me back on after Scott said he was not going to post anymore, what a friend!!

    P,

Glad to have you back. I consider you to be a positive contributor. You have much more knowledge than I do. I know this forum is run be Chief, but GEE WIZZ.

  12. Thanks for the post Ron,  I had not seen anything new in two days so I was thinking I had been banned by CA..... no such luck.......

You were not banned but Joe was willing to pay us not to answer you and to give you neg points.

  13. Ron,

    Here is the option.

Thanks Bill, I just figured out the problem. I was using a template plan from X5. Once again Chief does not always cover updates when a plan is brought from an earlier version. It seem the only way to prevent this is to set up a template plan for each version. I personally find this to be a PITA. I don't know about anyone else. And then there is the Library update problem. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

  14. I must be missing something. The majority of the doors I use are flush. When I open the DBX I can't seem to find a check box to make both sides of the door the same material. I would love to have someone show me the error of my ways.
