  1. Lew,

Anno-sets have been around for a while now and I just can't understand why everyone isn't using it. Anno-sets are one of Chief's  #1 "time savers" of all

time. Once set up its done and you never have to think about again.

I'm not using them due to my unique use of Chief over the years. I'm an old Dog and it isn't easy to teach me new tricks. When I started with ART's chief architect with version 4 it was far from the product it is today. I had used VCAD for almost 10 years. Cad at that time was way faster than Chief, therefore I would do preliminaries in Chief; DFX them out, and complete the project in VCAD. I could message elevations and sections in VCAD way faster than Chief. I have reciently started to use chief more, so my learning curve is way off due to my history with Chief. Scott calls me a chromogen sometimes for my complaining.

  2.  Someone sent me a dxf drawing but it comes up very small once I import it. Is there a way to get it to scale once it's imported. Or a specific way I should tell someone to export it so it will come to Chief Architect to scale?

Try bringing it in as Feet.

  3. Hi all

I have sent 3 pdf blocks to layout from 3 separate CAD details. (They were images that we blocked with some lines and added to the library to save re-drawing them) the problem is that my pdf writer is screwing two of the images throwing them over my title block and not where they show on my layout page. They show correctly on the layout page and print correctly on my A3 printer, however, they don't print correctly on the pdf writer.

Any ideas on how to fix?

    Steve (NZ)attachicon.gifsht9.pdf

My guess is your between a rock and a hard place. Adobe will say it's Chief's problem and Chief may say it's an Adobe problem. In this age of sore customer service you will have luck with Chief but not much with Adobe.

  4. I thought I wasn't allowed to post the other day as well, but it turned out I wasn't logged in. This new system seems to kick me out all the time whereas I don't remember logging very often in the old one, it just remembered me somehow. Maybe there is a cookie issue.

Same here, the new system does not do very well in that regard. About twice a week I have to re-sign-in. Whats up with that?

  5. Hay, I just got back on, thanks guys and don't give me anymore red things. They must have put me back on after Scott said he was not going to post anymore, what a friend!!

    P,

Glad to have you back. I consider you to be a positive contributor. You have much more knowledge than I do. I know this forum is run be Chief, but GEE WIZZ.

  6. Thanks for the post Ron,  I had not seen anything new in two days so I was thinking I had been banned by CA..... no such luck.......

You were not banned but Joe was willing to pay us not to answer you and to give you neg points.

  7. Ron,

    Here is the option.

Thanks Bill, I just figured out the problem. I was using a template plan from X5. Once again Chief does not always cover updates when a plan is brought from an earlier version. It seem the only way to prevent this is to set up a template plan for each version. I personally find this to be a PITA. I don't know about anyone else. And then there is the Library update problem. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

  8. I must be missing something. The majority of the doors I use are flush. When I open the DBX I can't seem to find a check box to make both sides of the door the same material. I would love to have someone show me the error of my ways.

  9. With interior doors, you just check interior and both are the same. If you want different sides with interior just go to the first page of the DBX and

check different interior and exterior. Interior doors now have an exterior side also. Just uncheck it on the first page and they will both be the same

    P,

When you open the Door Defaults from X6 an interior door has a different material on each side I don't have the box checked for different casings on each side. ??????

  10. HM DOOR.pdf

I would like to know how many people would like to see an option for the interior and exterior of a door to be the same. for instance I have very few interior doors with different materials "in and out". I find this to be a PITA, not sure if anyone agrees with me. This appears to be an early decision by ART that has never been looked at for improvement. I seem to one of one who finds these things very frustrating. I'm looking forward to hearing from other people on this subject. Along with this it would be great to have HM jambs as an option, I do use them in some of my custom contemporary homes. And all our Small Commercial T.I. projects.

I would love to be able to this automatically.

  12. I'm hunting for a cad program that I can work with my chief files in dwg form. I currently use turbocad designer 19, but I would like to have the ability to purge the file of unused layers. I would love to avoid purchasing the full auto cad, unless someone has an older version they would like to sell. If it is possible I would like to find a program that is also a one time sale, and not a yearly license.

    Thanks for your help!

i would suggest versacad, CA, company. I've been using it since 1983 great for cad. FAST, FAST. FASTEST. Years ago someone had a cad shootout and an Aussie won every year using VCAD.

  13. Doors, Windows and pretty much every other part of the program have deficiencies. We know about many, probably not all. We prioritize things based on what we perceive are the things people need the most. In some cases this is based on who is squeaking the loudest, but usually it is about how many people are asking for something.

Keep asking for stuff. What you want is what we want.

    DOUG,

WE HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR DOOR CHANGES SINCE VER 9.5. IT TOOK I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY VERSIONS FOR YOU TO ADD A PATIO DOOR, WHICH IMO IS STANDARD IN 99% OF RESIDENCES. THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DOOR IN THE DBX ISN'T VERY USEFULL. I HAVE NEVER SPECIFIED A DOOR WITH DIFFERENT MATERIALS IN AND OUT MAYBE COLOR ONLY. THERE MUST BE A WAY TO HANDLE THAT.

  14. Joe,

As my Father the carpenter used to say. " you hit the nail on the head Son" . And you have to know that my favorite color is orange. Chief programmers, are you listening? This is not to much to ask for a Mature program that markets its features as being professionally proficient. This is so bad that I'm being teased about it.

    Ron

    Dan,

Where does Chief sit on this? IMO this should already be part of the program. I think we all would like to hear when some of these shortcomings will be addressed. Can I add Hollow metal doors and frames. It would be great to have the ability to shoe a HM frame shape in place of std casings. Just my two cents worth.

Ron or as Scott calls me the chromogen

  15. The book is 7 1/2" wide, 9 1/2 long and about 2" thick.  I think it's worth the $60 to have it in book form.

It used to be part of your upgrade, oh well progress is great. I don't remember the price going down when they stopped giving us a manual.

  16. You know Tim it's these small things that if fixed improve the experience we have using CA. thanks for bringing this up, you might want to put it in the suggestions forum.

I think you now should be the head of the choir Scott.

  17. I am looking for a printer that will print on 12x18 paper (half size of our standard size "D" 24x36).  Many of the wide format printers that will print up to 13x19 including my new HP 7610 will not print on 12x18.

    Any recommendations are appreciated.

When I got rid of my plotter I purchased an Epson WF 7520, it prints up to 13X19 therefore half size of "D" size. Worked great once I realized that the larger paper had to be in bin 1 and the 8.5x11 in bin 2. If you use the larger in bin 2 it jambs. The printer is not great for photos you have to clean the heads every time you want to print a photo. The scanner is very slow but works well. All in all it is great for larger prints.
