Hey Glen, your comment was past my bedtime. So, in attempting to post a pic of my Transform/Replicate tool to prove to you that this does not work for walls, I embarrassingly realized that I wasn’t selecting the proper reflect plane. I was selecting Horizontally instead of vertically. It’s only when I tried it on a cabinet I realized what I was doing wrong. Here’s a screenshot of before and after the operation on a cabinet and on a wall. It works fine. thanks for your help.

We’re back to tricking Chief into doing something as basic as, mirror a copy of a wall. That’s pretty sad. Don’t you think it’s weird that there’s one “mirror a copy” procedure for walls and one for everything else? Certain functions live in a menu (which make them easy to find with the help menu) and other commands in a toolbar at the bottom of the screen? I’ve come to get accustomed to Chief’s ways but when something like this happens, I realize it’s due to these inconsistencies, more than it is my “senior moment” that I waste an hour hunting for the way I used to mirror a wall.

Ha ha, I've been using a hotkey for copy/paste but I kept hitting my hotkey for copy/paste in place. I had forgotten my hotkey for copy/paste and was momentarily perplexed. thanks, and why do we have both copy/paste command and the copy/paste in place command? one works for walls and everything else and the other does not work for walls. Or is it only one command?

Hi, is this new? I could've sworn I could use transform replicate on a wall so I could make a copy and then reflect it? Since "copy and paste in place" is not available for walls how would you mirror a copy of a wall about a point/line? I know I could make a copy of the entire plan and reverse it to copy back and forth but that's a little extreme. What am I missing?

Also for those who are worried about Chief not having Twinmotion as an add-on like it has in Revit or Archicad it’s really no big deal and works almost the same. If you make a change in your model in Chief all you do is hit the update button on the import tab in Twinmotion and the change will be incorporated automatically. Your Chief model stays where it is in TM with all the work you’ve done preserved. Here’s a tutorial showing the procedure with Sketchup (identical scenario with Chief):

When you un-mull a window Chief loses its dimension extension attachment to that window. It keeps the dimension and extension but inserts a point marker (cross) in place of where it was originally snapping to your window. You have to adjust the extension by dragging it and resnapping it to the window. You’ll know you’ve succeeded when the point marker disappears. It’s a pain but I can’t blame Chief on this one. A mulled window is a different object after all. I’m thankful Chief allows us to mull windows to create limitless window styles on the fly. In most other softwares you have to redesign the window from the ground up. -
I can’t go back to Raytrace anymore. I’ve been spoiled by TwinMotion. It’s not just all the features and ease of use, with all the real-time slider adjusting, its that the rendering time is a fraction of what it would take in Chief. And better results... Compacted soil or fill. Pour slab anywhere you want. We usually just fill the whole thing with 3/4 net. No compaction needed. No headaches with sinking etc.

Is this why my crappy MacBook seems to behave the same as some of the other guys with monster machines? Other than raytrace I don’t see why I would even need to upgrade.

What is Chiefware Garage Door Maker?

Hey thanks for that. I already had made a symbol myself (yours was nicer) but I just though this was already possible by taking an exiting library garage door and somehow setting the number of lights? Wayne Dalton has one that is called ERP Styleline II which is close except it has 4 lights at the top instead of 2. Just thought there was a way to set number of lights? Anyway, no big deal I guess. I made a symbol with cabinet doors and a p-solid as well.

I thought I could make this door style from the library and choosing lights etc... I thought I had done it before, but apparently it's not so obvious. I have even loaded the libraries from Amarr, Clopay, TruStile and Wayne with no luck. Anyone have a clue? (without making my own symbol that is) The image is just some cut and paste for my client to see. The door I'm looking for will be all black, 4x4 inset panels with the double wide glass panels at top.

For stepped footings I draw the p-solid in an elevation view and set the depth. Drawing in elevation I can use a standard polyline and trace out the step. Then convert polyline to p-solid and set the depth. Go back to plan view and place it where I need it. Usually centring it on a foundation wall. Then I go back into elevation view, add breaks to my wall and drag the wall bottom to snap to my p-solid stepped foundation. Of course you can step a foundation wall with footings the same way just that you loose control of the independent shaping and visibility of your footing. For these situations, which is often the case for interior support walls, I use p-solids for footings that way I can control them. Deselect footing and add your own footings. It's easier. I've even built an entire floor that contained only footings. Basically putting footings on its own floor.
