  1. All of the sudden i am getting a bright square bright spot on some of my more complex models..

Here is an example of the 360 export..along with the tour that had the original export that worked in the kitchen.

Anyone have an idea whats going on?  I just uploaded new studio driver, april, but this was happening before so thats why i updated driver.

  2. HI everyone, I am trying to make a roof that is exterior insulated, its 11.75" thick on top of trusses, my issue is

i only want the fascia and eave to be 7" deep,

The only way i see to do this is to make another roof plane that is on the exterior of my wall that is non insulated and then manually move it up to

match the insulated roof plane, and then i needed to manually pull up eave and gable walls to meet thinner roof plane.

Is this the correct way of doing this or is there a better way?

It sounds like your concern is that the client could "steal"  the file? My thoughts on this issue is that if a client takes my file and runs, I would be protected by my rejections.

What does protected by rejections mean?

  4. I am considering using the desktop viewer for client to review model.

I tried it myself and they can see plan, layout and all cameras. Standard , glass and vector only.

It does a good job letting clients navigate large models well.

My only concern is I need to provide chief file for client to use viewer. There doesn’t seem to be a way to protect file.

     What are everyone’s thoughts here?

    Am I off base?

  5. Hi everyone, I for some time have had issues with chief taking a long time to rebuild 3D model.

I have been working with support to no avail.

It generally happens when I have a 3D view open.

it was so bad at times that it would take 3-4 mins if blue circle to rebuild model.

now it seems it takes a few seconds every time I do anything, doesn’t seem like much but it used to be instant.

I have reinstalled chief, did a clean install of nvidia driver, I don’t save anything to cloud.

    my user library is large.

it seemed to start around beta 2 release, could have been a windows update then too.

I am very frustrated and don’t know what to do.

  6. This is what I ended up with, I have this pub/office building, I am adding another story to it, i just needed to get asbuilt close

to show client and investors the before and after.

The glazed roof is all wonky, I will have to do more detailed measurements next time i get to site..

I made roof 1" thick glass, use roof planes to drop in roof beams under and then copied and pasted roof

beams above to represent glass frames...kind of crude but I think it will work for now,

Dont necessarily need skylights, just set your structure and soffits to the correct assembly according to your needs. This is done with only roof planes

Rene, can you tell me what settings you used? and i you want a glass curtain wall to line up with roof mullions?

First make the roof structure glass or steel then resize your skylights

Ryan, how is this going to change things?  chief couldnt even model what i showed correctly in the first place, must be too complicated being so close to roof edge?

Tip Added here after being found buried in a post in the Q&A Section as I thought it would be useful for Others, Thx Chopsaw.

*I have also added some PDFs and links for GIMP.

Making SEAMLESS TEXTURES using Gimp.                    * this info is in the PDF below too

It's an open source (free) photo editing software available at https://www.gimp.org

    Tutorials are here : https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/

Direct link as of June 20th 2020 ( we then post was made) to latest version of Gimp.

    1. Open the image file in Gimp.

    2. Edit > Copy, then Edit > Paste as new layer.             Paste it as a new layer three times so you have a total of four copies, each on their own layer.

    3. Image > Canvas Size. Exactly double the width and height of the image/canvas size.

    4. Use the alignment tool to align each layer in its own corner (so they are all visible, not overlapped).

    5. Use the "flip" tool to reverse/mirror three of the layers. Leave the top-left corner alone.

            Reverse the top-right corner horizontally.

            Reverse the lower-left corner vertically.

Reverse the lower right corner horizontally and vertically.

    6. Export the new image. This will now be a seamless texture when tiled. Choose it as the texture file for your material.

    7. Adjust the scale of your new material since the size of the image is now larger.

    Mick

Hi there, this might seem like a dumb question, but my experience with photo editing software is near zero, how do I exactly use alignment tool to move each layer to the corners?

And if you can tell me this I am sure I will need to know how the flip tool works.

    Much appreciated, Mick.

  10. I have been noticing a significant slow down in rtrt with denoise set quite low at 25, it used to take a few seconds at most, now it takes 15 secs, might seem trivial but it was super fast before, what is happening?

    is it a windows update?

Anyone else noticing this slow down?

I am also getting the blue circle of death happen quite regularly, chief is trying to write or update 3d model, takes about 3-4 mins to release..I have sent it in, waiting to hear back from Chief.

It happens so much I might have to stop using x15 until it gets fixed...

Wait for the Surface Book 3, one of the few options that check all of the boxes you just mentioned

Rene what do you recommend now for a cost effective tablet with pen for asbuilt measures using chief?

If you'd like to try our Scan To CAD service while you've still got the phone, please send me a DM or email me at ben@canvas.io and I can give you a code so you can try it for free!

The cost totally defeats the purpose of doing the scan yourself.

I just did a 2200 sq ft 2 storey asbuilt house measure with chief and a laser measure device right into chief on my laptop in an 1.5hrs.  ( had a bunch of levels, normally would take 1hr)

if it cost me $330 to do this and drive there and back I could just pay a local asbuilt business to go and do the measure and provide a cadd dwg.. for less than $330..

If you're in hurry, another option is to use the Wolf ceiling hood which is flush mount and looks similar to the Nuvola 90 when it is installed up in the ceiling.  You can find it in Chief's Wolf Cooking catalog.  If you need to have your schedule populate correctly, you can just go into the dialog box for this hood and change the name, the specs, etc.

    Good luck!
