  1. Same question as Graham.... I really worry about sending incorrect sections with framing in the wrong location.
  2. Vectorworks highlights the layout windows that are out of date. You can either update all or just the one you want to work on. I guess we have to just keep on asking.
  3. Yes, Vectorworks does this. Elevations sent to layout are to scale and can be dimensioned just the same as in plan view. Chiefs options for elevations are much nicer for clients as screen saves but I would still like them to be scaled and dimensioned on the con. docs. without losing this nice appearance so some extra work is required. I am also finding that I need 2 layouts for a job. One for pretty design drawings and then a final layout after all changes are made for the working drawing. Being new to Chief means there is too much chance of something not being updated in the elevations and sections. I really wish layouts told you when something needs updating without opening and closing each one constantly.
  4. Thank you Scott. Good idea using a new layer for the images too.
  5. Why doesn't Chief send a duotone or the other options of an elevation to layout scaled? "Newbie question" but I don't understand the difference of sending the same elevation in vector, duotone, watercolour, etc. to layout.
  6. Yusuf says to scale the duo tone image and then place it over the vector elevation. I know this is explained somewhere but I cannot find it. Can someone send me a link or explain how to scale the image on a layout sheet, please?
  7. I would also like to thank everyone. This was a great learning experience. The videos and conversations they generated were great. I am still trying to imagine how to make this work with the lower frost walls at the walk out level but I, at least, now have some good ideas that I can try. Thank you for the play plan Mick. It will be a good jumping off spot for this trial and error adventure.
  8. Have you discovered how to have the WMR show at outside corners on the exterior walls? I was hoping the latest update would do this but haven't used it yet. They work so well to show stone veneers in 3D until you get to those corners:-(
  9. I was searching the on-line catalogues to add to my bonus library. I couldn't find the "pool table" there but it did find " billiard" as Cheryl said. Just don't try "billiards" because that doesn't work. It would help the search if they could add a few simple key words for the objects.
  10. Another one for the newbie Ah Ha file.
  11. Why does nothing show up when you put "pool table" in the search field? I was looking for one in the 3D library this afternoon and couldn't find anything. Thank you Jon. Just wish this was easier.
  12. Then talk to the GC. At least tell someone. None of the contractors I know would be upset if something was pointed out to them that was going to cause a problem or cost money.
  13. I care very much about my clients design and plans and try my very best to have correct and accurate plans. My jobs are all from referrals or old clients. My clients would all tell the contractor to talk to me if there is a question because that is what I get paid for and I represent them. If a contractor didn't care enough to talk to me if they noticed an error they would not be getting any referrals from me.
  14. I always tell my clients that the contractor and subs should check the plan and if they have questions, suggestions or see an error to please call so I can correct or change it. I am only one person and it takes many more to build a house properly.
  15. That's what I did and it all worked out. Now if they would only make some final decisions.
  16. Do you just copy, delete the other roof planes, regenerate, delete extras and paste in hold position? I have done some other copy and paste items but have lost them somehow. I guess I should copy the plan and give it a try.
  17. I have all my entry gables and trim completed but now the client has asked for numerous changes and I would like to regenerate the roof but save this portion and add it back. Is it possible to save this section, delete that portion of the generated roof and replace the entry gables. I cannot find anything in the KB or reference manual about this.
  18. That all worked the way I thought, my main concern was how to show the footings as opposed to a mono slab. Is that possible too?
  19. I am also curious how this works. Does anyone have a simple video?
  20. This is one of those situations where, if you select something in plan view, it should stay selected in 3D view.
  21. I agree with Joe's suggestion but would also like to thank Doug for the current use suggestions. I wish there was more info in the KB, or elsewhere, on the allowed angles because I couldn't find anything that explained it that well. Maybe a short video could be done so we can understand how to use this tool and its limitations.
  22. Thanks Joe. Sure hope they do something with this soon. I would never intentionally use 7.5 degrees and to be honest it doesn't even seem to be snapping to 22.5 even though I have 7.5 checked and the snaps are on, it was always trying for 30 and 45. That's why I thought I had to input that angle. I will shut the plan down and try again tomorrow. I already did the walls by using the angle dimensions but it was a terrible time waster.
  23. All of our survey are in metric and being able to do a direct conversion in CA is great news.
  24. I quite often draw garage walls at a 22 1/2 degree angle. I have tried for the last 2 hours to find a simple way to do this. I have attempted to put in additional angles but it will not let me use 22 1/2. It says either it is an invalid angle or the new allowed angle is too close (within 1/2 degree) of an existing angle.......??? One of the suggestions I found was to select the wall and input the angle. There are a bunch of walls and the foundation below so this doesn't seem to be the solution. Is this the type of question I should be sending to support? I searched the KB, videos and did a Google search. No joy. After finally getting a terrain drawn and proper levels for the garage, I have to get some actual drawing done.
