Not sure if you want to upgrade your current system or buy a new one? Your current system is most likely too old to really benefit from new components so can we assume you're shopping for a whole new rig? If so desktop or laptop? I think the MSI desk top systems below are a very good value as posted in another thread.

Quite a few Alienware users here though I've always thought they were over priced but that gets right to the heart of the matter. Budget? And why do you want to upgrade to current X13 requirements? Do you need/want what Chief calls 'RTRT' Real Time Ray Tracing? Which is actually 'MFRT' Much Faster Ray Tracing? I personally am intrigued by the feature but haven't found a need in my work flow. Do you really need/want it? Can you get by with a lesser graphics card (as I can) and upgrade when/if the prices come down?

Good luck and would love to know what you choose.

I know Alienware does a lot to fine tune their systems, like manufacturing their own motherboards for a better working experience without bottlenecks. the extra cost IMO is worth it. I'm on my 6th one now.

  2. Also, if the stem wall height is different than the slab height, then you create a curb, like in a garage. For all the changes to work auto rebuild slab (virtual-not real) must be on until you are ready to build the real slab. Also check room defaults because with lots of different levels, rooms will build at the default level on rebuild. with your situation you will not want defaults checkbox checked because the rooms all have a different level.

    Leads me to another question:
So if you open a plan template and a layout template and you save them, how do you link the two together or is it automatic?
Becasue when you open a layout template, it is reading from the last plan that you saved if from.

You need to link the layout to the plan file by going to the layout and opening Tools/layout/referenced plan files and link whatever plan file you want to. Must be done in the layout though not from the plan file.

  4. I have 10 to 15 saved sections in my template plan and just delete the ones I don't use for that plan. The one's I do use, I just drag into place wherever I want them, big time saver. You will need to save some horiz. and some vertically. vI also save 15 camera views for interior and special views. everything is preset.

BTW, these are all already sent to the layout so I don't need to send them again.

There's a "Framing Reference" that Chief has to set up framing in a specific manner but WILL NOT allow a ceiling joist in the location you are looking for. Does seem a bit strange but manually adding a ceiling joist is probably the only way to have Chief frame it the way you want, and in my mind "correctly" as well.

I noticed you have a rim joist checked in the floor section of the dbx but it is actually an attic where no rim would be.
