How to "explode" or "ungroup" imported skp models

Recommended Posts

I have imported several SKP files which have several models/components in the one SKP file. I can use them in my plans just fine - they rotate, etc. However, I cannot find a process to extract individual models/components for use. For example, I imported a SKP that has three individual pendant lights, but I only want one of those lights. I am using CA X8. Thanks!

You have to bring them into Sketchup and ungroup them and save as individual components and import them into sketchup one at the time.

Thanks, Greg - good to know. I was hoping there was a way to ungroup them as a CAD block within CA.

I was experimenting with this recently and it is possible to do in CA.  I found in a thread that you can open your collection and just before recreating a new symbol use the "Delete Surface" tool post-4797-0-27455100-1462730259.jpgto temporarly eliminate the items you don't want and then repeat.

At what point is this in the import process? Because I don't see the option.

This is after importing your .skp collection into CA and displaying in a camera view when creating the new individual symbols.

Got it. I can delete things, but as soon as I move them in the floor plan, they come back. Oh well, I just went ahead and got Sketchup, so I'll use that instead. Thanks for taking the time to answer, Chopsaw!

Are there cloud services that work together with a software like autocad? I'm searching for a service where I can subscribe to store data (projects) in autocad (or similar), so other professionals can work on the same project via the cloud and the employer can see the progress.

I have imported the loading doc roof I did in sketch up the, the structure is 3852" wide . Chief imports the correct size, but then when i try to move it up to the correct height chief shrinks the imported roof structure to 3000". I did not find any limits on imports on the docs or help.

      Anyone ells had this problem?

I imported a Import a surveyor DWG file. I followed the instruction in the tutorial (Import a Surveyor DWG file for a Site Plan or Terrain Perimeter (chiefarchitect.com) . And got some strange spikes hills. I have tired cleaning up the elevation data but no luck. There is simply no elevation data in the area that is that tall, not sure what is generate this. Pleas see the attached pic and surveyor map.
