Material Edit

Recommended Posts

I want to have tongue and groove paneling on the walls and ceilings in a room.  I want to have the wall run in a vertical direction, which is no problem.  When applied to the ceiling, the paneling wants to run paralell with the rafters.  I want the paneling to run perpendicular to the rafters.  How is this achieved???  Do I need to make a new material with pattern rotated 90 degrees???  Isn't there an easier way to just rotate the ceiling material and not the walls?

I've never found a way.  I always make a new material.  The fastest way I've found to do so is this...

Locate the material by FIRST using the material eyedropper, THEN clicking on the Material Painter. The material you previously selected will automatically be highlighted. You can then easily make a copy or add it to library (depending on your preferred method).

Spent the whole day trying to get better at creating materials. Rather than start a new thread I'll ask here, hope you don't mind Dan.

I did as Michael said but when I create a new matl after using the eye dropper and selecting a T&G color, how do I get the texture since it takes me to my own hard hard drive file where I need to have a T&G texture stored?. If I try and navigate to CA zip files I cannot since CA is looking for PIC files?

Surely there is an easier/better way, but here is what I just did.

With the material you want to rotate in your plan, click on it with the Adjust Material Definition tool. On the Texture panel, copy the Texture File name.

Right Click on your User Catalog. Select New>Material. Paste the file name into the Texture Panel, change the Angle to 90, give it a new name.

Here you go.  You may need to navigate to the bottom right corner to create a full screen view of the video.  And please note that I simply created a copy in the plan but you can also add the material to your library if you wish for use in future plans.  You simply need to click Add To Library in the Select Material DBX before clicking OK.

Thanks Michael. Clicking on Plan Materials is what I missed. Seems like you should be able to do everything except maybe delete from the Library Materials panel.

Thanks for the help.  I'm pretty new with Chief.  I'm use to working with sketchup.  They have a nice system for just rotating the material per individual surface.

Is there still no material that will allow transparency in Vector View? I use a lot of glass for deck railings and its completely insane what needs to be done to make an exterior elevation drawing look decent. Currently, I need to build my railings without any glass, then build the glass manually, place on a separate layer so I can have it on in renderings, but off in elevation views (vector). Then, in elevation view, I need (choose) to manually draw p-lines with transparent fill to show the glass without blocking visibility of the structure beyond.
I don't like fighting Chief's defaults and auto features, but I also want my drawings to have a certain appearance. Anyone have any thoughts or tips for transparent glass (not windows) in vector views?

      Hi everyone,
Is it possible to create more then one new material at the time?

I have in a folder filled with wood grain pictures (vertical & horizontal) and I would like to add them all to my library but doing it one by one will take forever... From what I see in the program, there doesn't seem to be a way yet. But I imagine or hope that someone found a way to do it.  I must not be the first user who wants to do that to save time. Any idea everyone?  Thank you.

      Hi,
I'm having an issue with X9 - anytime I open an item and try to change the material type, I get a pop-up box that says "searching for files" and it appears to be searching through my file folders, but it's on a continuous loop searching the same folder endlessly so the search message isn't going away and I have to force stop the program. I've tried opening different files to see if it was just happening with a possibly corrupt file, but it's happening with several different files so I don't think thats it. I called the help line and they are not familiar with the problem. They said I should try my luck here.
      Anyone have this problem?

      Hello,
      I'm using Chief Architect Premier X9 ( Version 19.3.1.8)
I cannot see any texture in my standard camera views and overviews.
I tried to in-install and re-install the software but it didn't work. How can I solve this problem?

      Thank you,
