j2narchitecture
Hi. I am trying to create a custom wall type to show an existing 2x4 stud wall being sistered with a new 2x6 stud right next to it. I have both framing layers placed inside the "Main Layers" (core) section. However, the preview shows the 2x4 and 2x6 studs automatically aligning on their interior faces instead of their exterior faces. I need both studs to be perfectly flush against the exterior sheathing layer, pushing the extra 2 inches of the 2x6 strictly toward the interior side. How do I force the alignment to lock to the exterior edge of the framing core? (Screenshot of my wall type definition attached below). Thanks for the help! CarrieS
It is not possible to have Chief build studs bigger than, or outside of, the wall layer that generates them. You'll need to manually adjust.
para-CAD
Can Your Framer just ripped 2 inch strips out of 2x6 and tack them directly onto the edge of the plates and studs?
jorgearaya
This is a really good one! Also, a really good suggestion for those wanting to do staggered framing and or sistered framing as requested. As usual there are several ways to accomplish this, here's one. Create your 2x6 wall assembly with all the required layers, then create a frame 3 1/2" wall and check No room def, no locate, no moldings, ignored by exterior walls. The frame 3 1.2 wall will have to have the framing spacing adjusted to 25.5 or 22.5 and you may have to use a framing reference, remove all plates from it. Place the frame 3 1/2 wall inside the 2x6 wall and test run it. You will need to manually edit openings as the openings will typically be hosted by the primary wall. You will also have to manually relocate some studs. Not perfect but better than adding them one by one. Cheers!
