MN_JohnH
It seems that when I try using TJIs for roof rafters, they don't automatically size down to the sub-facia size on the overhangs like the regular lumber ones normally do. Is there a way of making this happen? I am using the I-joists for the roof framing and I want to frame the overhangs with 2x6 sistered on. I can detail it out on the plan but I was wondering if there was a way to sort of make it show on a framing plan without having my I-joist rafters extending all the way out? rafter.plan
robdyck
No, there is not. In those scenarios, I just use a rafter sized to either the full dimensions of the I-joist, or just the thickness of the web, but still the full height.
tundra_dweller
Yeah this is annoying. I have messed around trying to use 2x6 rafter tails but never got them to work how I want. I do the same thing as @robdyck and just use normal rafters with the appropriate size for the I-joists.
MN_JohnH
Thanks, at least it's not just me this time.
jorgearaya
@MN_JohnH This is a good topic for a suggestion. You may also reference the TJ-4000 booklet, Roof Framing for what is and is not allowed by the manufacturer.
