AtelierEPC
Hi everyone! Launched my current design practice a few months ago and I am relatively new to Chief Architect. Learned CA in a jiffy, but have struggled with some trivial issues like how to draw a continued attic wall over a roof. Any help or tips are greatly appreciated. SNestor
Make the segment of wall that sits on top of the roof “roof cuts wall at bottom”.
CharlesVolz
Roof Tip: Walls extend upward until they meet the prescribed rough ceiling elevation, a ceiling plane, or a roof plane, whichever comes first. In other words, a roof plane can cut off a wall (and its attic wall extension). 1
PitMan71
There a few things to remember in addition to what these guys have mentioned. I am new to CA as well, when I learned this it helped me a lot. Roof planes and walls have certain directives. When I get in a pinch it helps me to think through which of these items is calling the shots. In your case the roof interrupts the wall. There are settings in the wall to control this under the structure panel. Particularly the "Ceiling Platform" "Balloon Through Ceiling above" setting the top left AND then sometimes the Roof panel "Roof cuts wall at bottom" check box. Not having your plan to dig into I would bet the gable wall is an attic wall and It can be grabbed and pulled out over the roof, BUT your will need to move the edges of your roof plane out such that it is not over that wall. Something else to consider..... In my experience the roof and gables will look unfinished until all of the manual roof edges are connected to another roof (hip, ridge, valley) or intersecting a wall ace. Lastly, you can draw walls in the attic on the attic wall layer if you need to. Chief will give you a warning reminding you that you are drawing a wall in the attic where the walls are mostly generated automatically. Speaking of attic walls if you screw up one and you need it to regenerate, just delete it and chief will automatically generate a new one. I have only been using chief for a short time as and I recently started my design practice so I still speak "newbie". If you ever have questions feel free to DM me.
