capitaldesigns
Design Plan.zipI just started working on a hillside house with guest house andflat roofs. They will have a wraparound deck. The flat roof will extend over the decks. The client wants 10'-0" ceilings over the house and the decks. They also want the exterior doors and windows to be 10'-0" tall. This means I will to have the bottom of the rafters around 11'-0" to accommodate the headers. The bottom of the ceiling joists will be 10'-0" and connect to the side of the headers. I included the plan, section and a detail of the roof to wall connection. I'm not sure how to get CA to frame this so I modeled it with 10'-0" ceilings and 24" deep rafters. I would then make the section into a CAD detail and modify the details to show it correctly. The problem I am having is in elevation view and 3D mode the thickness of the roof over the decks are showing 12" thick. The bottom of the rafters is showing 11'-0" above the deck. The rafter/ceiling assembly are supposed to be 24" thick and It should be 10'-0" above the deck. Inside the house the ceiling are shown correctly at 10'-0" high. I'm not sure why the roof assembly over the deck is not showing in elevation view as 24" thick. Thanks, Mike
joey_martin
Check the size of the SUB FASCIA. It's too small causing the fascia to be cut at that size.
VHampton
Correct—if those are 14" roof joists, the sub-fascia needs to account for the soffit as if it's being fastened to the underside of the cantilevered roof framing. Increasing the sub-fascia depth will eliminate that gap. Chief Architect can handle modern designs quite well, but the framing defaults often behave more like traditional gabled roof setups.
