tundra_dweller
Thanks for sharing @Steve_Nyhof. I still haven't decided on the best way to set up plans for walkout basement foundations and showing grade on elevations, this is good food for thought. The majority of basement foundations I do are walkout/daylite, and the majority of them are not uniform from one end to the other, they are typically on lake lots with very irregular terrain in elevation and shape on the shoreline side. I am also on the fence about which floor to put the foundation on. I've tried doing a couple with the walkout level on floor 1, and it does make sense to have the frost walls/footings on a separate level, but I still find myself doing a lot of dragging of the frost footing walls at stepdowns, and using room dividers to create rooms to try to change the footing depth is a PITA. I'm probably doing it all wrong, but I've never seen any definitive help content or guidelines on the best way to set up for foundation on floor 0 and walkout basement on floor 1. So I usually go back to putting the basement level & foundation on floor 1 and using a layerset and saved plan view for the foundation plan to filter out everything but the footings & foundation walls.

It sounds like you and I do much of the same thing. I am including my template so you can mess with it and see how I have my elevations set up. I have only put the foundation on the 1st floor where I had very difficult hill sides, typically on a lake. But 99% of my work is done with the foundation on level 0 and I move the walls down 40.5 for normal daylight and walkout, but from there I move the wall up or down how it makes sense with the grade. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GNWMu7XsuuAN4680zbSb3Du3IiaV0Cw9/view?usp=sharing

I know about your youtube subscriber channel but I'm pretty well maxed out on extraneous subscriptions at the moment so I appreciate the freebie. I do have your proplan and a couple other tool packages that I've purchased from you over the past few years. I'll have to play around a little more with the basement on floor 1 method and see if I like it better once I get more familiar with the method. Thank you for the support. There are a ton of reasons to draw it on floor 1, not the least of which is to isolate footings where there might be stepping and split level footings but also it just offers more dynamic modeling in terms of auto build foundation and room designations so you aren't fighting floor surfaces and so much more as well as easier to established saved plan views to dimension grade beams and footings easily and separate from your walkout dimensioning as well as any automatic area reporting etc. or volume calcs
