how to change a landing into a deck for chief architect so i see planks and open below.

or changing the Landing Floor structure materials to match the Decks should work too.

Apparently that is supposed to work automatically when the stairs are connected so maybe check the stair connection.

Supposed to yes, but I find not always for some reason had to do it this week myself.
