Centering valley rafter

Recommended Posts

Three-month-old "Chief" using a 2011 27" iMac on Premier 9

I'm having difficulty moving a valley rafter over to have all 4" pitch rafter sections meet equally. All exterior framing spans are 24'. I've built homes for 25+ years and can see what needs to be done but can't get it done on-screen. I've downloaded three files. Perhaps someone can send me in the right direction?

Have you tried adjusting the roof planes in plan view? Pull over to line up how you want them then rebuild the roof framing. Auto roof build should be off to do this. Or post plan and somebody can take a look at it.

If you simply match the spans each side it will fix itself.  Obviously the span you have on gable is larger than the other side.  This is using auto-roofs if that is what you are doing.

Manual fix: If you take the "front" gable and just flip it along the ridge you should be golden.

Thank you, Jerry. I'm currently leaving the office but will let you know how your suggestions worked out.

Another suggestion is select the hip on the front right side, copy in place and refelx about the the center of the ridge center point or don't show the rafters and just the roof plane front roof plan and reflex about the center ridge area but first delete the back roof plan if you are going to do it that way much easier working with just the roof plans, if really stuck post the plan and we can help you

I'd like to thank chief58, Johnny, and justmejerry for their prompt advice.

I was able to fix the roof line by using the "Edit All Roof Lines" and then using the "auto rebuild roof" tool. ( I know, simple)

It's amazing all the tools that are available. It just takes awhile to even know what's possible.

Thanks again- Trendsighter

How do I put a roof return on this roof? Can't find a video about it anywhere on the Chief Website... is there another name for it?

See attachment, and where I drew in black.

I know this discussion has been discussed before but I am having an issue with the roofs overhangs.  I have not had this issue before as most of the time the Boxed overhangs have worked but not this time.  I have tried everything in the book to make my overhangs boxed and nothing is working.  Any idea why my overhangs will show a boxed overhang?

I want to add a porch and roof and meet an existing root at specific location. How to I specify the specific location?
See attach. I've fixed the location of the dormer. The porch roof (shed type) needs to end here and on top of the porch beam.  The pitch is what ever it needs to be. I tried to specify two pitches on the porch wall, but I don't distance from the porch wall to the a point just in front of the dormer.
I tried to move the baseline up on the main roof thinking Chief would tell me the height and then I could change the ridge height of the porch roof to match. I couldn't get it to work.

Hello please see the attached picture of what I'm trying to draw. It's a tile roof with partially exposed decorative framing.
I did a typ. roof then I drew the rafters and beams manually, but I can't seem to give them a pitch.

      Thanks!

How do you isolate an existing drawn roof and still modify others.
