Cannot print to pdf...it gets hung up and never finishes

Recommended Posts

I've been using Chief since version 6 (not X6).  I cannot print a specific files layout to pdf.  It gets stuck on page 8 of 16 (always).  Anybody else having this problem with one or more file.

It just started doing this today.  I updated to Windows 10 last Friday, but just printed another layout to pdf without any problems.  It is a much smaller file.  But that makes me wonder if somehow my file became corrupt for this.  I am not having any other problems with Chief.  No unusual crashes, etc.

I have done all the usual immediate remedies...rebooted, fixed any broken registry links, cleaned my cache.

I will call Tech Support in the a.m....but thought maybe y'all might have a solution before they open.

Adel,

Just a wild guess.

Have you tried Clear Printer Info?

I would be surprised if that was it though.

Something corrupt on page 8?

Save a copy of the layout and delete page 8 and see what happens.

Or maybe, instead of deleting page 8, just delete the layout boxes (and any other info)  and leave page 8 there.

Oh so very interesting!

I deleted page 8.  It hung on the new page 8.

I switched page 8 with page 7...so now page 8 is page 7...it hung up on page 7!

I'm pretty fried at the moment.  I think I will send my file to tech support tonight and see what they say tomorrow.

Thanks for your help!

Adel,

Sounds like some sort of memory limit.

Tech support is there to help - that's what we pay SSA for.

Have you tried using another pdf printer to see if it is Chief'so end of things? Foxing for example which is free download or even Windows built in.

I've recently purchased a new computer and installed Chief Architect 11. Everything is loaded and working except when I print I do not get any of the jpeg images. All of the line weights seem thinner than expected also. I have an HP designjet T120 printer and have downloaded the latest drivers and rebooted my computer. The printer is working properly for other software so now I'm thinking something is wrong on the Chief Architect side.  Is there a setting that I've forgotten to change or is there something I need to do to initiate a new printer driver? Any help is appreciated.

      Hi
I am using x10.  I have a kitchen type that I will multiply many times and save by unit #. I need to have the unit # show up on my layout page for each plan that is saved.
Not sure how to save the units and have the info show up.
      Thanks in advance!

I am hoping someone can tell me how to handle this.  I have done all the framing, and using the project browser, sent all the Wall Details to a Layout page.  When I first did this, everything showed up perfect...The wall detail names on the walls in plan view, corresponding to the labels in the Layout.

Well, I made a couple of window changes, rebuilt floors and ceilings and now what I have is this: The wall detail numbers show up correctly in the plan view, but the layout shows: "Wall Layer 4 Viewed from outside".  I must be able to change the Views on the Layout to correspond with the plan view!

      HELP!!!!

      TIA

I've never seen this problem before - I "print" my layout sheets to Chief PDF, and the floor plan comes up with super-heavy linewieghts, making it virtually unreadable.  No problem with the rest of my set including elevations, sections and roof plan.  Any thoughts about what is going on?

Does anyone have some decent ideas to keep track of details? I'm working on a large home that has over 40 details. If I decide that a particular detail, let's say it's #5, is redundant or not required, that means I've got 35 details and their callouts to renumber?????
I've been calling out details from the cross sections in layout, specifically so I don't have to open each section view (which is so tedious) in order to place callouts. But there's no schedule tool in layout to make any sort of auto-numbering system. And no linking system from the callout to the detail camera (I like to keep them live) or to the CAD detail (which I use for less dynamic details).
This is as bad or worse than the issues one runs into when using room numbers.
Surely there is some system within Chief for actual architectural plans?
