  1. It appears to be normal when you zoom out the dimensions get relatively larger. I really don't want that to happen. Did I miss a check box that keeps the dimensions at the same size relative to the drawing (not get larger) when zooming out. Question #2: I have always drawn Cased Openings or Arched Openings with double dashed lines showing that there is a headed above. Is there a magical way to show double dashed lines when inserting a cased opening or arched opening aka "Doorway". More later... JK
  2. If the file is open you can't upload it. If it is open, close it then try uploading it.
  3. As much as I and Dr. Sheldon Cooper would agree regarding Alienware, it is a bit over priced. I recently purchase an actual Dell from Costco that's as fast as an Alienware: http://www.costco.com/Dell-XPS-8900-Desktop-%7c-Intel-Core-i7-%7c-2GB-Graphics-%7c-Blu-ray-Player-%7c-Office-365-Personal.product.100245309.html
  4. DUH!? I just realize the original post was almost 2 years ago. I didn't check that. Well, if you're still trying to get this plot to close, maybe this information will help. JK
  5. I just drawn the lot in A---CAD and it closes perfectly. I calculated the chord for the rear PL is 77.95' < N8d4'54"E. GL de Jerry K.
  6. The solid square is a 5' x 5' transformer easement. See the Legend on the side. Drafting is nothing more than a game of connect the dots. You just need to locate your own dots. I see four dots with absolute data you can use to locate. I would draw the 113.54' line, then the 54.51' line then the 12.36' line. Now you have four end points or four dots located. The final dot is the one on the back corner of Riverside Drive. Now the final line is the chord for the PL (100.42') along side Riverside Drive and you're fortunate to have the Curve Table that gives you the Chord Distance and Bearing for that line. Now you have your final dot. Draw the side PL line as a curve with a radius of 950'. Draw in the rear PL with a curve of 1,170.00' radius and you have it. Easy Peasy Lemon Squezzy! On the other hand, I have found the Surveyors/Engineers plans incorrect. I've done a Parade of Homes House in Midland for the past 3 years although this year I might not. I have been swamped for the past year and don't know if I can get to it. Good luck. JK http://www.houzz.com/projects/757396/stevens-construction-midland-texas-parade-of-homes
  7. Or... I always like a hard copy so I ordered the professional printed manual: http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/addon/ It's cheaper than trying to print it out myself. Then again, X8 is about to be released so you might wait for that.
  8. I'll try and look into that one Glenn. Thank you. I like the Electrical "Palette" but only six items where there is room on my screen for over 30 and I can't add to it? It just seems like that would be a great place to place these items I use most. Then simply close the palette when not in use. I would love to see a DBX where I can add to a palette. Hint Hint. ;) Jerry K.
  9. Thanks Joseph, This is what I started doing with cabinets and such. I'm just getting started with CA from that other popular CAD program, that I was able to fully customize the menu system. As I sit here thinking how I can expedite the job, I think of a few things the folks up in Idaho could include in a future release. I will create a User Folder just for popular electrical items. More to come. Jerry K.
  10. Thanks guys! In the "Electrical Defaults" DBX under "Default Library Objects", can I add to this list somehow? I see how I can edit the existing items in the list. JK
  11. Is there a training video somewhere that will instruct me in adding additional items to the electrical palette? I would like to have several different types of light fixtures (cans, surface mounts, pendants), just a generic ceiling fan with and without a light kit, smoke detectors, telephone, television, network, dimmers, timers, etc... so I don't have to go to the library each time. Thanks y'all, Jerry the K. Chief X7 + Windows 7
  12. Glen, You're so smart. It would have taken me years to find that little box. How it got un-check, is a puzzle. Thanks, Jerry K.
  13. It took a moment to figure out how to attached the file. Look up at the original post to see the attachment. I wasn't working on any particular plan. I've been setting up my defaults when I noticed this. The wall type is Lap Siding on a 2x4 wall. The wall definition shows Lap Siding. However, when looking at the 3D image in Camera View, the exterior of the wall is brick. Thank so very much for the assistance. Jerry K.
  14. When selecting a Wall Type under the Exterior Wall Defaults Window, regardless of the Wall Type I have selected, either it be Stucco-4, Siding-4, Brick-4 or any other Wall Type, the exterior wall material can only be defined on the Materials Tab under Exterior Wall Defaults > Materials > Exterior Materials . Regardless of what I have defined in the Wall Types Definitions Window, the exterior wall surface will only display the material selected under Exterior Wall Defaults > Materials > Exterior Wall Surface. As seen in the attached JPG, I have Siding-4 selected (yes, Lap Siding is the specified material in the Wall Type Definitions Window) but brick is rendered in the camera view unless I scroll down to the Materials Tab and redefine the Exterior Wall Surface there. I use to be able to simply select the Wall Type and the predetermined Exterior Wall Material (Exterior Layer #1) will appear in the Perspective Full Overview Window. What can you think I might be doing wrong? Did I make myself clear? Thanks for your advice, I am running X7 in Windows 7. JK New-Home.plan
  15. Tnx Michael. I will try the wall cabinet work around. JK
  16. I have a General Question..... I am creating a bunch of cabinet groupings being saved in my User Catalog for future use. I've created a corner sink grouping with a corner knee space. I created the corner lap drawer cabinet from a regular 24" corner cabinet box. The adjacent cabinets have their toe kick boxes protruding into the corner knee space a few inches on both sides. I haven't been able to figure this one out. Although it's not a detrimental issue, it just bugs me more than anything else. Tell me which magic button in the Cabinet Dialog Box is the one to click. I drew this in X7 so you'll probably need X7 to open the file that is attached. I also included a JPG showing the issue. Well shoot.... the file uploader will only allow me to upload one file. So I will go to plan B. Thanks, JK bath-cabinet-issue.plan
  17. I figured it out. Why there isn't already a molding for this Brick Rowlock Sill beats me. However, I have it only the image of brick on my rowlock is going the wrong direction. Sort of like a cross eyed tailor making me a pin stripped suite with the strips going horizontal. But I will endure and figure it out too. Thanks, JK
  18. Thanks Robert.. Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains this in more detail?
  19. I agree. I've been toying with Chief Architect for 5 years and I have wonder why, as sophisticated as Chief Architect is, it cannot automatically enter a brick window sill. My work around is to shape a solid into the size of a brick sill and manually insert it as the brick sill then apply a material. I also ask the same question regarding brick arches. Both Eyebrow (Broken) Arches and half circle arches. I know they don't use a lot of brick in some areas, but here in the South, EVERY HOUSE has at least 80% brick or stone. Please! Give us a simple amount of code that inserts a brick window sill. If I have missed it please advise. Thank you very much.
