  1. Today's question has to do with Line Thickness on Elevation/Camera Views prior to Sending To Layout. I combed through the Preferences and Defaults looking for a setting that might effect this issue. If I don't set the Line Thickness on the Rendering Technique Options>Technical Illustration Panel (see Capture3.jpg) to something like 30, the printed output on a saved PDF or straight to my printer (KIP 3000) the lines are very light and almost undetectable. On the monitor a Line Thickness of 30 produces an image where all the detail is blotted out by the heavy lines (see Capture1.jpg). Attached is a image of the Saved PDF of the final product (Capture2.jpg). Is there a setting that tunes the final output to more resemble the looks of final output when putting my Layout Sheets together? Or, what is your method of producing a proper image to Send to Layout? How do you do it? Tnx!, JK
  2. Once again. Thanks. I really haven't done many (any at all really) plans with a second floor and a stairway. I guess I really need to practice and get the hang of it. JK
  3. I have another little problem. On the "Front Elevation", and consequently the Rear Elevation, there is a gap in the exterior metal siding of my metal building but not on the Side Elevation. Do you understand what may be causing this? Thanks, JK 161204-Halbert.plan
  4. Thank you! One question..... What's "DVX"
  5. Guten Morgan Chiefers. I've been working on a floor plan for a Barn-do-minium and I just simply can't seem to get the second floor to accept a room type and then have the stairwell break through so I can do a space upstairs. I know it's probably something simple. It's the simple things that always seem to elude me. Please examine the attached plan and clue me in what I might be doing wrong. Thank you, thank you very much... 161204-Halbert.plan
  6. In that other CAD program, I was able to write macros that allowed me to change the properties of entities to a chosen entity. Simply type a letter such as "D", select "Entity To Change To" then select the maybe multiple entities to change. Such as a fast method to change an existing wall in an As Built to a Demo Wall very quickly without having to open the "Wall Specification" choose "Wall Types" selected a different Wall Type in the Drop Down Box then click "OK". Maybe it's here and I haven't found it yet.
  7. Thanks Y'all. That just might be the thing. I'll let you know. JK
  8. I have a client who is wanting me to design the floor layout for a Barndominium inside a commercially bought steel building. No real problem here. Just what would you say is the least painful way to produce the empty shell of the metal building. 80' x 60'. 6"x10" red Iron on 20' centers, 16' eave, 4:12 pitch roof.
  9. There are PDF (or PLT) to DWG converters out there. So after you have output to a PDF you can convert to DWG. Be aware of "Online" PDF 2 DWG converter websites for they are notorious of planting ransom ware on computers.
  10. I like the Color Chooser Video #37. At the end of it, Deedee mentions a different video that does a Texture Chooser. Is there a Texture Chooser in Chief that works like the Color Chooser? I searched for it and wasn't able to find it. I know I can Snip an image off my monitor and via Photoshop create a seamless texture. Does CA have a faster method? JK
  11. Thank you very much, I was trying to edit a material while the program was wanting me to select a material. It did not work that way. However, I would like to learn to delete unwanted wall definitions. About half the wall definitions in the list are wall types I would never use and if I needed a wall definition then I would just create what I needed. The long list just gets a little easy to get lost in there. JK
  12. How can I tweak the Material Definition I just created in the User Catalog without having to recreate the definition all over again? Tnx de jerry
  13. Hey Mark, Jerry Karlovich over here with Korel. You possible know of me since we are in the same area. I know of you. My business model have completely changed so I don't consider us as competitors. I have been using CA since X3 and I have used it for my 3D models. I still do much work in AutoCAD because there are a few issues I have been dealing with in getting my Foundation Layouts the way I want them. I do provide my clients a Slab Foundation Layout for dimension purposes just so the contractors know precisely where the recesses are. I do not provide an Engineered Slab. I won't go into detail here. As far as tracing an AutoCAD drawing, I simply save my AutoCAD "Wall Hardlines" (no dimensions, text or hatching) then Import that into CA as CAD Lines. You could also create a special layer for your imported file so that later you can easily turn off that layer to keep things from getting too confusing. Then simply trace on top of that. Before you do anything, you need to set your preferences and defaults. The "Stock" Preferences and Defaults or more leaning towards homes being built in other markets that do not use Slab Foundations with Brick Ledges. Many of the terms used in CA are different that what we might call them but you'll get use to that. I would like more Chief users here in the north Texas area so we might be able to collaborate. Good to see another Texan on Chief. JK
  14. One of these days I need to attend one of those classes and have somebody stand over my shoulder and boink me on the head when I do something wrong. That's how we learn.
  15. David, It was a link about Using Materials by Patricia Abood. I've watched her videos before with no problem. Right when I clicked on the link all sorts of fire works started going off. I couldn't "X" out of the browser so I Ctrl+Alt+Del to exit out in Task Manager. I did a full system virus scan and said a prayer and everything seems to be good. Her website has also gone away and I don't know what she is doing these days. My Dad clicked on an email from one of his buddies and he got hit by the Ransom Ware guys. I told him to just go and buy a new laptop and quit being so click happy. The bad guys wanted $500.00 for the key to unlock a laptop maybe worth $100.00. Thanks, Jerry the K.
  16. Thanks David. I love your videos. You have a way of keeping me tuned in. After you fixed the foundation around the Garage, take a close look at the corner of the Bedroom on the right where the stone/brick sits on the foundation. The foundation is recessed into the house. We do not use the faux "Lick'n Stick" type stone or brick here in Texas. The masonry sits on a 5 1/2" brick ledge. I have been having a problem getting the foundation edge aligned with the outside of the brick but for what ever reason, the footing protrudes around the Garage when I have it correct around the house. Also, on plan view floor 0 the Brick Ledge doesn't show up. I can use the Floor Camera and I see the Brick Ledge but when I "Send To Layout" there is no Brick Ledge. Thank you so very much for your assistance. BTW, I am using X8 beta right now. I need to update my signature. But I would rather listen to how you worked on the plan in a video. Jerry K.
  17. Andy, There is no brick ledge on your drawing but I see them on the Floor Camera View. Is there a way to show the Brick Ledge on the Floor Plan View so when I "Send To Layout" they appear? Even if I have to add the Brick Ledge with CAD lines? Thank you so very much, Jerry
  18. DMDesigns, FYI.... I went to Chief Tudor and clicked on Patricia's link and my virus protection shut my computer down. Scared the pee out of me. I just watched a story on national news regarding Ransomware. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get into Task Manager to close the browser after turning my computer back on. JK
  19. Thanks! I wasn't aware Point to Point left tick marks. I'll will do the other dimension tools. JK
  20. Is there a default DBX where I can turn off these tick marks? I'm talking about those "Plus" signs beyond the end of the extension lines. Tnx, JK
  21. Thanks CAARide, I did figure out the random parts on the roof. I did just as you suggested. I am still wrestling with the Monolithic Slabs and I have a couple of CA Consultants trying to figure this out too. I did manage to draw a Foundation using Slab Tools only I can only cut a hole in a slab but not outline a space and recess that space into the slab. Work around is to go ahead and cut a hole and then fill that hole with a thinner piece of slab. Yes, the "I think I got it" referred to uploading images and not my drawing issue. For the past five years I used CA to only do 3D models and I would doctor any issues in PS. Now is the time to start drawing CDs in CA. Thank you so very much for the compliments. Jerry K.
  22. I've experimented with a small rectangular little plan. I have my Brick Ledges showing up when I look at the slab through the Floor Camera, but when I Send To Layout, the lines depicting the Brick Ledge are not there. How to get the Brick Ledge to show up on the Layout? Jerry K.
  23. I've already chewed through a box of 9mm and now working on 556. I searched through all the videos on the CA Support Training Videos (17 in all under "Foundation") and there is nothing on preparing a Slab On Grade Concrete Foundation. I bought the CA Reference Manual and read page 416 and have been unsuccessful in getting those instructions to work. I'm not really sure if that was for a Monolithic Slab. I'm a member over on Chief Experts and no tutorial on specifically Slab On Grade Foundations. I do not need to show any footings what so ever at all. I just need to have a drawing showing what the surface will look like and I like to dimension the roughed in plumbing and recessed floor outlets. If there is a way I will find it then do a tutorial of my own and maybe make a gazillion bucks selling it. Thanks for everybody's input. Jerry K.
