  1. David I was extremely close but I found out that I had clicked on the Edit Ends of Dimension Lines instead of Edit Ends of Extension Lines. Not sure what each does. Alan
  2. I was fiddling around with the door label by using the macros but I can only get the door number (D01, D02 etc) to display and I wanted to have both the number and size to display. I added the macros for the door number as well as the width and height. Can someone please let me know where I'm going wrong. Thanks Alan
  3. I tried to move the end point of an Auto Exterior dimension but it kept snapping back. I checked the icon that says "allow end point of dimension to be positioned independently but it still doesn't allow me to change it. Any thought as to why that doesn't work? Thanks Alan
  4. Michael If you take a cross section of that wall you will see that the face of the OSB is aligned with the face of the brick allowing only the siding to be proud of the brick (as it would be in actual construction). So the only difference between the Siding 4 wall and the foundation CMU is the stud and air gap -- a total of 5". Doing what you suggested only makes the face of the OSB align with the face of the brick so now both the OSB and siding are proud of the brick. It doesn't change the fact that the dimension difference should be the stud and the air gap -- 5" Alan
  5. Make one out of solids -- round for the post and cubes (resized to square plates) for top and bottom. Make a block out of them. Alan
  6. Okay David I contacted tech support for it. Alan
  7. I have a house that has an 8" CMU with a 4" brick veneer and 1" air gap for a foundation that is derived from the first floor which is the standard Siding 4. The foundation is set to dimension to the outer layer of the 8"CMU and the first floor is set to dimension to the outside face of the stud If you look at the attached test plan the foundation dimension doesn't seem to be correct. The difference between the face of the stud to the face of the block should be 5" (4" brick + 1" air gap). So taking the 30'-0" dimension across the top of the building subtract 10" (2 x brick and 2 x air gap) the length of the foundation should be 29'-2" (30' - 10") but it's 29'-2 7/8". Can someone please let me know where the addition 7/8" is derived from? Thanks Alan Test.plan
  8. Is it possible to lock the location of the Living Area tag? Every time I make a change it moves back to its default location which is inevitable right over a dimension string. Thanks Alan
  9. I've not had that happen. Maybe because you were in a view other than plan which IMO is not normal. Alan
  10. Yes I found out that the wall was in the attic and one part of that wall is visible and the other is invisible. I just dragged the visible wall over the invisible one and voila -- now all is good. Alan
  11. Michael So it will always do that? I have to add a solid polyline and eye drop off the siding so the elevation looks right. I think I'll submit it to tech support. Thanks Alan
  12. I can't send the plan but I did recreate it in another which is attached. Thanks Alan TEST.plan
  13. Please look at my screen shot and see why that wall is not displaying. Invisible walls are on. What is showing is a wall polyline and I can open it and it's set as Siding, 4. The other side of the porch is the same -- no wall. Not sure why it's an odd shape with the "spike". Thanks Alan
  14. Michael That is how I was taught and I guess gives rise to the term butt hinges. Alan
  15. When using the eye dropper tool does it add a new material to the base wall -- say the Siding 4? I have been doing that and when editing a wall polyline in 3D view which I had painted with shakes from another wall I accidentally deleted it and I notice the original siding was still there. So my question is should I not be doing that and instead create a new wall type with shakes instead of siding and then change the wall type instead of painting with the eye dropper? Thanks Alan
  16. Sorry about that faux pas. Didn't know that I was giving myself credit. Alan
  17. I must have been having a senior moment as it was obvious that it should be x12 -- 30" = 30' so 1" = 12". Alan BTW I found out that his CAD software will not let him draw full size -- it defaults full size to I' = 1". I've always been taught that you draw full size and only scale to print.
  18. I got a dimensions and it seems as if it's 1" = 10' as a wall that measures 2'-6" should be 30' However when I scale the drawing I'm not getting what I want and I'm having a brain freeze. What should I scale up to get to a full size? Thanks Alan
  19. My contractor has an inexpensive CAD program Viacad 3d v9 and he says he draws everything at full size (as he should) but when he sends me a DWG or DXF file it imports at a scale (that I have yet to determine). Any idea what is happening as I don't want to have to scale everything before converting the lines to walls? He says that he goes to Files>Export>DWG. Thanks Alan
  20. David I noticed in watching the video that you said using the eye dropper tool added a new material to the base (in your case Siding-4). I have been doing that and I believe it has been the cause of some issues I have been having. For instance when editing a wall polyline in 3D view which I had painted with shakes from another wall I accidentally deleted it and I notice the original siding was still there. So my question is should I not be doing that and instead create a new wall type with shakes instead of siding and then change the wall type instead of painting with the eye dropper? Thanks Alan
  21. Mark That is probably the way to go. Thanks Alan
  22. Is it possible to have different Library content for different templates? For instance, I have a lot of manufacturers catalogs which I don't need for every project. It would be nice to have say only bath and kitchen manufacturers catalogs if I was only doing kitchens. Thanks Alan
  23. I want the project name to appear on every page in the layout so I guess I need a rich text box with a macro but there is not one for it. I guess I could create one but have no idea how to do so. Could someone please help? Thanks Alan
  24. This is what I found aligns the walls at their external brick layers. Not sure if that is the correct way but it worked. Alan
