  1. Wow, checking this out Micheal - thanks for your effort here. (added) you amaze me Michael - that this type of thing is exactly what I was after. Im still trying to wrap my head around it a bit but very very cool.
  2. Yeah that did work - nice work as Chop said.
  3. Hey guys, So I realized what was happening and its actually a more simple explanation of whats wrong in Chief. You can set a Rich Text size for print and its completely different than a "standard text" - even though what should be the important thing is the physical size. Apparently there is no tie-between the size you set for text and the actual size text is.
  4. I've tried this and it shows the same. I've verified the problem when I print. I'm thinking this has to be a bug - since there shouldn't be a difference.
  5. So that is interesting - I never noticed but yeah there was a difference in page size. That said, it didn't change my results when I made sure they matched. Kinda interesting you can have different sheet sizes like that in Layout "Cad Details".
  6. I checked and it looks good to me. Here it is.
  7. My circumstance is where I am inside Layout making a Cad Detail for organization of text groups. So when I "send" to Layout its actually coming from Layout to begin with using the same text settings. Since its all 1:1 scale it makes zero sense there should be a difference in text size unless i were to send to the page specifically at an alternate scale (which i am not).
  8. Does anyone know where the scale is controlled inside a Layout file (which is 1:1) using a "Cad Detail". Its blowing my mind that I can't seem to use a 1:1 scale and have text result in the same size between the two windows.
  9. I'm working on a new template inside Chief to provide ConDocs more in line with a system I prefer. I typically have notes/footnotes on a page, and then denote the item # on the plan (by label) that references the note/footnote - and then to the right of that particular note, have room for up to 3 referencing details in additional sheets or a detail packet. I've attached an example. What I am curious about, is there a way to replicate this in a more automated (formatting) way? Michael and others gave me recommendations on using schedules, but adding the detail callouts on the right present an issue there. Perhaps they have to be simply placed, but curious if there is a way i am not thinking of. Thank you in advance for suggestions.
  10. On Chief's "Home Designer" website they have an illustration done in Chief (i guess) where the layers of the wall are progressively cut back in such a way to show down to the studs. How does someone do that in Chief??
  11. I've run into this problem many times - i used to just end up blocking the topo and drawing Chief elevation splines over it (tracing). However, Glenn showed me how much better Chief handles elevation regions, so now I just use those to get pretty close to what the topo reads (close enough). You can actually just fill in (poly) the area between topo lines every so often and use that as the terrain region. Works well actually.
  12. I've never seen wood posts that narrow before.
  13. I dont know if this info helps, but I cannot print Chief files to my large office multi-purpose laser directly since the file size Chief sends is crazy large and crashes the printer. If I use Chief PDF, print, open in Acrobat the same file prints to the printer no problem. If I use Acrobat to print, for some reason the Chief file is all images if I use transparencies or other fill types. SUPER hassle.
  14. Just another quick tip worth mentioning - which i got from Glenn - i started using elevation regions (only) instead of topo lines and Chief handles these 1000% better. I realize its not "as" accurate (close enough for most things), but Chief deals with other objects way smoother if they're are built with Chief interpolated topo over "hard" actual topo. I just make a few elevation regions from the area between what would be topo lines. Does this make sense? Again, Glenn showed me this and helped immensely.
  15. I thought i saw an option for this somewhere in Chief, but I can't find it - so I may have been wrong. I know in Vectorworks we have a checkbox for if we want the hatch to be global or locked to the direction of whatever object we created - like walls...but that doesn't help you. Id say Michael will know right away if this is possible to change in Chief.
  16. You should contact Jared, he is down that way. But, you should also consider using Richard to do a review of your plan. The best money you will spend. Also, prescriptive costs more in implementation costs than engineered plans do we find. Its worth engineering a plan and will often save money overall.
  17. This thread is nuts. Congrats to everyone thinking outside the box, but its ridiculous to have to do this for something so simple. How about Chief just lets us create a railing that doesn't have to be part of a room or non-existent ramp, and can have its own Z value that we can set? Thats how all the cool kids are doing it.
  18. Are you using manufactured trusses? There is a step-down method to designing a truss layout that is very efficient, and its very rare I would ever design a beam into the roof structure unless I was transitioning ceiling heights.
  19. Hey Glenn - when you mull units together the middle casement ends up as a mullion more than casement - visually as well. (added) Playing around with this more, I guess this is an issue more when you have a clerestory above as well (which i often do in the entry). Not to much in the instance I show above - I agree, BUT the other problem is the window still becomes no longer an option, and there are some funny problems with trim being placed under the door.
  20. When you have a door and window next to each other in Chief, but want the "bumping" to tie the headers together, is there a way to eliminate the overlap lines? I know you can mull together, but then the middle casing ends up incorrect. Id love to be able to keep the doors/windows separate (as they are in real life) and get a single-piece lintel (casing header).
  21. Yep I did miss that - i will check it out. Thanks
  22. Is there even a way to create a custom hatch in Chief?
  23. There is just so much i learn watching you work in Chief - not even necessarily the subject matter of the video even - you just know so much about Chief. Thank you.
  24. I have to say, that is a very aggressive project to do inside Chief - but well done.
