  1. You can place invisible walls in that corner and specify no ceiling in the large space, but leave the ceiling in the area bordered by the invisible walls. It will create "attic walls" up there, but simply change them to railings.

  2. Perry that blanket statement can be confusing. I can count on one hand how many basements in the 10 + years I have placed on level 1. Why is your method better than mine? We don't build the same way here, and my guess is Mass is closer to my construction techniques than yours. I would tell him....hands down...why my method is better than yours.

  3. Then in that example you are correct. I do homes in one community here in Indiana on a very nice golf course...many walkout lots. In your example, we call those floors the terrace level or ground level, which I would put on level 1 even though the front part of that structure may very well be poured concrete wall. Only we would have pool houses on mono slabs located on the terrace level, or maybe a small secondary garage.

I think we both win in these cases.

  4. Wait a minute here. I think the original request is a little un-reasonable. We are now thinking that Chief should be able to "read our minds" as to number pages based on how we print them, and not on how we arrange them in the layout provided?!?!

I have struggled with this post since it came up, but have waited to see if I missed something? If I arrange the pages in a specific order...any order...and then print those pages out of order...why/how would Chief know what numbers I wanted on the page?!?! I put them in the order I saw fit, but now I am going to print them in a different order and ask my software to know that without me telling it. Do any other programs provide that?

I am not trying to be flippant here either, I am sincerely struggling with this concept. Help me out here.

And Lew. A "workoround" is using CAD lines for staircases to get the look we are all after. other than that, you are simply using the tools provided.

  5. Basements ARE foundations. 95% of the homes I do have basements, and I have no issues at all with my basement being level 0. You slab guys out west are overthinking this. Layer sets can be used with no problem at all to differentiate between the foundation plan and the basement plan. The attached pics are of the same LEVEL 0 plan. Accomplished with layer sets.
