Is the a way to have an exterior landing framed automatically with its required support posts so it isn't floating in mid air? I alway go back and add the posts manually, but wonder if there is an easier way to do this now.

RAFTER TAILS SHOW WITHOUT RAFTERS SHOWING THROUGH ROOF MATERIAL
DianeP replied to DianeP's topic in General Q & A
Eric, The picture I attached was from my layout page. I'll try to make the roofing material thicker. UPDATE: Where do I make the roof material thicker? UPDATE 2: I found it Here it is. -
Any ideas on what I did wrong that caused the rafters to show through my roof material. I need to show the open rafters tails. It was changed somehow on mine. I did the update around 10:00 yesterday morning and before that I had several .plans archive folders. I had 4 on the 10th which were all done before I did the update. Today I have changed the preference back to archive every hour. I had one at 10:17 but now that one is gone and I have one at 11:26 am. I'm not sure what happened or is happening. (¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
-
I I have always had several archives that were available to choose from before the update. Not sure if it was one every hour, though. I think they have a maximum you can set and then maybe they get over written when it gets to that point???
-
Thanks for the info. I looked that way as well and it was the older version since I had the file open working on it. Oh well, I have started redoing my work. Thanks for reminding me to set the archive preferences so I won't have this happen again. I think they should add that to the list they give us to make sure certain things are done before we install the update. /They tell us to make sure we have backed up our work. They could also tell us to be sure to reset our archive preference when we get done.

I do, but I don't know if it updates files that are open. I will check One Drive to see. UPDATE: I looked, last one uploaded was 23 hrs ago which is the one I have now. Won't upload open files, evidently.

Gotcha. Is there a way to find the autosave files? Are they stored on the computer in another location?
-
I wonder if i set this for the last save, would it use the last autosave as the archive?
-
Oh, Thanks! Checking that now. I wish it would have set my preferences the way I had them in the x12 before I did the update. Then, I wouldn't have had this issue.
-
I was working on this plan since I installed the CA x12 update yesterday. I had it on save every 5 minutes. It crashed and there are no archived plans to work on since 10:35 am yesterday. Now I have to go back and try to remember all the changes I made. I was nearly done with it! Grrrrrrr! Frustrated.

Is there a distance I could move those windows over where it could still be ICF? I guess what I am asking is what is the minimum space between openings where ICF can still be used?
-
Does anyone know if there is a problem having windows this close to the door on an ICF build?
-
Not sure why it is doing this, It has always dimensioned to sides or middle of doors and windows, but on this plan it is only to windows. Any ideas of what to look for. Opening sides is selected in the dialog box,

story pole dimensions from floor instead of absolute
DianeP replied to DianeP's topic in General Q & A
Thanks everyone for your guidance. I came back to look at this problem on a day where I had a clearer mind and used some of the advice given. Here is what I came up with as a way to change the dimensions to what I needed them to be. I used the same technique to change the ceiling heights and remove the depth of the floor system. -
Richard I have a question, Is there a way I can make the panels thicker, 1.5" x 4". I tried to make it work on the dialog box for the railing but it didn't change anything visually when I changed the panel thickness to 4". Thanks!
-
Awesome Richard, I think that will work for what I may need in the future. Thanks so much for sharing!

I have it done, just trying to learn a CA way to do it next time. This builder uses them a lot and thought next time I wouldn't have to do a manual method. Your info was so helpful. I learned some new things about symbols I didn't know before. Thanks a bunch!
-
???? This is what I did. No change for me.

I increased the width between newel posts to 244" in the above picture, but it didn't change the width of the panels just the distance between the posts. Is there another way to stretch the panels so I can see what it looks like? Thanks!
-
Eric, this looks like it is a wider panel too. I will have to check to see if it could work. Thanks!!
-
EXCELLENT!! Thanks for the tutorial video. This won't let me have a wider x panel, will it? Is there a way to change the width of the panel?
-
Rob, I tried to figure this out but it wouldn't let me changed the smoothing angle. Held it at 45 degrees even though it looked like it changed it before I closed the dialog box with "ok". Also didn't see where I could turn off the balusters. When you get time, could you give me more information. I have a work around now, but would like to learn this way. Thanks!

Oh wow,. So going to try this. Thanks!

Thanks guys, your guidance saved me some time. I ended up drawing a line where I need it between the upright posts. Then I changed that into 1.5" x 4" molding polyline offset .75" from the line I drew so the molding would be centered. Then I reflected it upon itself and took both copies and blocked them together and copied them to the next locations they were needed, adjusting them if necessary. Wasn't too bad. I tried making it into a symbol, but as you mentioned DzinEye, the pieces needed to rotate just a little and I couldn't figure out how to compensate for that quickly. Chopsaw, when I stretched the CA symbol to 21' it just made another copy of the x
