why are you leading with escape or space? Why is that needed?

In order to terminate any existing symbol placement.  The "Sticky" problem ;)

But now I don't seem to need that either - except in those cases where a search isn't being done and it's just one of Chief's default symbols that has it's own Hotkey.  A switch or duplex outlet, etc.

Evidently it isn't.  Seems it was in a previous version but IAE it doesn't hurt.

  2. This is only an issue for me with the StreamDeck_XL.

Basically, I had to change all my Library Search Buttons to:

    • Escape or Space
    • Ctrl+L
    • Ctrl+L
    • Delay 1000 ms
    • Ctrl+A select all text in the Search Box
    • Delete
    • Search Text <enter>
    • Tab

    I could substitute

    • Home
    • Shift+End

           for the

    • Ctrl+A

but it's not a big deal.

The key is the Delay 1000 ms.

  3. I added a "1000 ms Delay" before "Home" and it works properly.

I tried shorter delays but it was inconsistent.

The "1000 ms Delay" even works before "Ctrl+A"

It's definitely a difference between the Layout and Plan.  I'll probably make it SOP for both just for consistency and safety.  Now I wish I could update 3 hotkeys in a row for a multi-action button.

I'd replace Ctrl+A, Delete with Home, Shift+End, Delete - unless you've customized them, Home and End shouldn't do anything outside of a text field. So at LEAST when it fails, you don't lose anything, you just don't get a search.

Also out of curiosity why lead with Escape and not Spacebar?

I like the Home, Shift+End, Delete to work with just the text field - but it still doesn't select the text when in Layout.

Escape vs Spacebar is just personal preference.  Sometimes I use both to make absolutely sure.  ;)  Even that's not always 100%

  5. I use the following string of keystrokes on my StreamDeck_XL for Library Searches:

    • Escape
    • Ctrl+L
    • Ctrl+L
    • Ctrl+A select all text in the Search Box
    • Delete
    • Search Text <enter>
    • Tab

This works perfectly when in a Plan View to find the desired folder or object.

But in Layout it selects everything on the Layout page and deletes everything --- instead of selecting & deleting all the text in the Search Box.

I've reported this to SSA.  Hopefully they will find a solution.

If anyone else can verify and provide a foolproof solution I would appreciate it.

Except for unique or high-uplift conditions I use:

    arc stud groups

    (1) 3/4x2-1/2" low-carbon steel, standard-thread, full-thread arc stud

    (1) 3/4" A563 grade A hex nut

    (1) low-carbon steel square plate washer

space studs along center-line of beam at 24" oc; joint to be finger tight; specified stud length is minimum post-weld length

3/4" diameter @ 24" oc seems like overkill for 2x_ plates and/or trimmers.

  7. When you select a cabinet or multiple cabinets:

    • open for edit
    • highlite the custom field in the Object Information Panel
    • enter your text in the panel to the right.  (or if you have a predefined text macro for that test you can just put the macro there)
  8. We had a CalCOMP system with a 50 MB removable HD.

I actually went to work for CalCOMP where we had both 50 MB & 100 MB removable HDs.  Boy the aingst when someone had a head crash and spread it to 50-60 HDs.  You really needed the tape backups.:(

Title Bar says Pro 2024 - so technically you're on the wrong Forum but that doesn't matter, Import options are view dependent.

Open the menu in a Plan view.

That was my other thought.  Plan View has different available tools than Layout.

Chief Premier has a lot more File Export & Import tools than HD Pro.

  10. Kate,

I don't know of any file type that can be imported into Chief to do that.  Perhaps a 3D file like SKP or OBJ but from AutoCAD you can't get that.

You are unfortunately going to need to build the model in order to do a rendering.  Tracing over the DWG using walls, doors, windows, etc will get you close.

  11. Rene,

Inevitably an Evaluation Error is caused by some variable (NVP) not being initialized.  I find this most often with macros in a Schedule column.  In which case I have to open & then close the Schedule.  It really depends on the macro and what "error handling" is being done in that macro.

In my case I have 2 schedules and one of them isn't initializing an array that the other needs data from.

I would need to see your macro that's producing the error to be able to identify what might be causing it.

I agree with you it's most likely a bug in how Chief updates macro execution.  They specifically tend to minimize so performance isn't degraded.  Repeated macro execution can slow Chief down.

I also still just want one Note/Callout Tool With schedules for both Layout and Plan for a variety of uses

Notes are not the same as Callouts so:

    • I want separate tools.
    • A combination tool could be useful as well.
    • I want separate defaults for Callouts in Plan vs Layout.

Layout Box Labels have a Callout Option.  This is the primary use for Callouts in Layout.

Callouts (Stand Alone and Camera) in Plan are used to reference the Views sent to Layout.

Notes are typically used to minimize the text on a Plan View.  They provide a reference to the Note Schedule(s).

That said, I prefer actual text in my CAD Details to minimize contractors & subs from having to search for the information.

I've seen too many ConDocs with Notes incorrectly cross referenced.
