I can't figure out how to get the Property Lines to have "Quadrant Bearing Decimal Dimensions" to be displayed on the exterior of my property lines except by using a text box. This should be an automatic feature. If I create dimensions, I can manually add the bearing text by copying it into the "Leading Text" but that's extra work and I then have to make the actual dimension line, arrow and extensions somehow disappear. Does anyone have an easy way to have this work?

Kathleen, You can put together several cabinets and Block them. Will that do what you want?

Ca Is Showing Mistakes That The Architect Didn't See In Revit
Joe_Carrick replied to Electromen's topic in General Q & A
Many years ago, I arrived for a site inspection at a hospital project. I noticed that the masons were up to 3' high on a wall that had windows starting at 2'4" and I stopped them. I then told the masonry sub that there were 3 supposed to be 3 windows in that particular wall. He said "No, there are only 2" which of course I disagreed with since it was my design. The sub insisted on a 100 bet and I told him I didn't want to take his money to which he responded: " I bet with my workers all the time and I never lose." That was not the right thing to tell me and I took his bet. Then we proceeded to look at the plans and all he could do was open his wallet and hand me 5 $20 bills and say "Well, I learned a lesson not to bet with the Architect - but it was cheap. If he hadn't stopped my guys when he did it would have cost a lot more to take the wall down and rebuild it." Now to answer how I would have handled the original question: I would have contacted the Architect and asked him if he intended that the ceiling in that room be sloped? I would have done that immediately but I would not have told him I had discovered a mistake that he hadn't. This is a diplomatic way of pointing it out without saying it was a mistake. That would have given him the opportunity to deal with it without losing face. -
I don't know, but it's in the Help File

The Default Designer Info is in Preference > Appearance > Text > Default Designer Information. If it is set there it should be automatic in all new Plans. If you change it in an individual Plan it will over-ride that information in the Layout. Note that there is no "Default Client Information". IAE, whatever is set in the Plan File for Designer and Client Info will be pushed to the Layout File. What I haven't checked is which Plan File controls when more than one Plan File is used.
-
I have the Designer Info save in my Default Plan. When the Plan is Linked to the Layout and both are open the data in the Layout is displayed correctly. This has been the way it has worked for as long as I can remember. It makes some sense for both the Designer Info and the Client Info to be attached to the Plan since it any Plan could be sent to different Layouts for a variety of reasons. OTOH, if the info is present in both the Plan and the Layout - which one should be dominate? This is a bit of a brain twister.

This was supposedly fixed. But it still isn't right. I created a new Line Style Patio and that's what is is named in my user Library. However, when I examine it in Ruby it is reported as custom_line_style_114. This is pretty much worthless. We need a name that can be relied on to be what we expect it to be, not an arbitrary name assigned internally. There is no way to use the reported name to compare with what it's supposed to be.

3D Rendering For Photo Realistic Results

It looks like he has just 2 stainless steel hinges while the real kitchen has 5 black hinges.- 7 replies

I would love that - it would make it much easier to build a Library of reusable objects.

I have a mask that I use for Interior Wall Elevations. It includes some additional graphics to display the Callout, View Name & Scale. If I place it in the Library, I have to first Block it. Then when I put it in the Wall Elevation view I have to UnBlock so I can edit the widths, etc. OTOH, I can add it to a CAD Detail Window and then group select to copy to the Wall Elevation view and avoid the UnBlock operation. I kind of wish there was an "automatic UnBlock" option for CAD Blocks placed in the Library. That's probably never going to happen. How would you handle this.

Ray, I will be doing a video next weekend showing how it works. If you like what you see.....

Site Plan As Cad Detail Or Anno/layer Set?
Joe_Carrick replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
You shouldn't need to reorient the plan. Change the direction of the North Arrow. I generally orient my Plan so that Reference North is to the top of the screen and true north is within 45 degrees +/-. -
There are some other things related to this that hopefully will be fixed in X8: 1. Multiple Stringers with spacing 2. Separate materials for Stringers vs Risers (we have Risers vs Treads in X7) 3. 3D Stringers with Closed Risers - we already see the Exterior Stringer Face and Closed Stringers. 4. Optional Soffit below Closed Risers (material selection could do this) 5. Closed Below should result in actual Walls, not just a 3D Surface.

Sounds good. Once I get your plan I can give you a price. Depending on the way your plan is setup, it could be a little more complicated than what I currently do - but maybe less. I don't do much remodel work so that's a little more but other parts of what you do may be less. I don't want to give a blanket price for this until I've looked at your plan.
-
Rob, There may be a couple of small artifacts left (maybe roof plane related) - but the main thing is to uncheck "Roof Over this Room" for the 2nd floor Deck. That will fix the Soffits.
-
Alan, Since there are no Defaults for Mulled Units - you should send that in as a suggestion. Without it being requested/suggested it might never happen.
-
1. Close the Plan 2. Zip it 3. Attach the zipped file

It is rare that any of us can answer based on just a couple of pics. If you post the Plan it's a lot easier for us to see what you've done (right or wrong) and figure out how to fix it.

Site Plan As Cad Detail Or Anno/layer Set?
Joe_Carrick replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
I also just use a separate Annoset/LayerSet. It's not only live, but my Site Analysis macros are also live. -
Perry, I usually delete the extra Wall Elevations but I also have to edit the Camera Callout anyway. I have a CAD Mask stored that I can copy to the Wall Elevation, resize it to fit and there's a couple of Text Blocks included to show the %view_name% and the scale. This makes it much easier to have Interior Elevations Labeled and Positioned correctly in Layout. It would be cool if I could just select a set of Camera Views in the Project Browser and send them all to a Layout Page at one time (separate Layout Boxes of course).
-
I don't know but I usually just use the Room Edit Toolbar Icon to create the Wall Elevations. Then I almost immediately rename them to include the Room Name so that I can get them automatically Labeled.
-
Larry, Most of this is automatic if you have it all set up in your Default Template or (as Scott uses - SAM). Elevation and Section Cameras are already in place, auto Roof Planes, automatic Framing and Foundations, are ON, Schedules are in CAD Detail Windows and default Property Boundary, Setbacks and Terrain are already in the Plan. I start with a complete Project File with almost everything already sent to Layout. I essentially start with a 3 story house so I have a Site Plan, Foundation plan, 3 Floor Plans, a Roof Plan, 4 Elevations & 2 Sections plus Floor and Roof Framing Plans already in the Layout. That means that as I work on the Plan, all the Elevations, Sections, Schedules, etc are being done for me. Sometimes I need to move a Camera or add another Section but this is a big time saver. I haven't figured out how to get Interior Elevations and Wall Sections to be automatic and I still have to do the dimensioning and adjust the position of things in the Schedules for numbering purposes. There are a lot of other details to attend to but the basics are auto-magic.
