  1. I haven’t experienced or heard of anyone experiencing any issues with malware being introduced through this forum. I’m not sure it’s worth discussing beyond that.  Someone could for example come along and share their knowledge of the inner workings and about a potential weakness they see and just give potential hackers ideas.  There are certainly people these weaknesses could be shared with like Chief’s staff, but a public forum isn’t the place in my opinion.  If you have any ideas that may not be well-known, then I would encourage you not to post them here.

Under Wall Defaults, the Exterior wall is 2x6 Siding, the pony wall is set to default.

You need to make the change on your individual walls, not just in your defaults.  Your individual walls have already been compromised.  Change all those pony walls in your plan back to Use Default.

No idea what I missed in the responses, but still acting the same way.

So I will save the foundation plan as a CAD file and do it that way.

    Thanks for your responses.

No.  Don’t do that.  Ignore Rene’s response and read mine again.  You just need to make the change in your Plan View Specification and NOT in your Wall Specification.

  4. If you're willing to pay for a little of my consulting time, I could set up a custom system that would fully automate this exactly like you want.  Using the standard built in macros and methods though, I think your best bet is to either:

    1. Do as @rgardner suggested and just use multiple schedules
    2. Do as @Chopsawsuggested but get rid of the leading zero and maybe use something like a dash instead

Thank you both for weighing in. I thought since you can create a material list from a room, there might be some way to automate the info similarly.

You bet.  Just to be clear, there are ways to partially automate.  Just nothing OOB and nothing quite like what you've described.  If you're wiling to pay for a little of my consulting time, I could for example set up a custom system for you where you could select the desired objects and automatically generate some desired output from the selected objects.  Here's a simple example where I select the desired windows and in just a few seconds I have the displayed text box.  The text box isn't dynamic but all the tabulation and calculations are automatic:

The whole process for this one wall takes about 30 seconds...a little less if you don't get distracted by an incoming phone call.

  6. With those check-boxes you are choosing to override the default line settings which are otherwise controlled by the various object and layer settings.  Notice that you can't select an Override Color, an Override Style, or an Override Weight until you check the box that says you want to do so.  In other words, you are choosing whether you want to leave it all as is or override with a single new setting that you're about to select.

  7. Short answer is no.  There are no custom macros that will work like you're suggesting.  We're limited to the object attributes (name:value pairs) Chief gives us.  Rooms don't report any information about doors or windows contained within their boundaries, walls report a little information about opening area but none about specific windows/doors and the windows/doors themselves only report the name of whatever room(s) they belong to.

There is a difference if you work primarily from the User Catalog as the OP does, and I do.

When accessing the library from a DBX in X14 and you have a saved filter in use  that filter applied. Image below the User Filter was on prior to opening DBX

    image.thumb.png.cc26cbf94b050d5fdedb67c34043152b.png

There is a down side to that if you don't know how the filters work -if the object currently listed in the DBX is not found with the filter on you won't see it. I suppose this could be a problem for some newbies?

X15- the saved filter is dropped completely in favor of what the program has decided for you, your saved filters are not accessible in that DBX all of which leaves you to rummage around or use the start clicking your way in the  search.

You're kind of moving the goalpost here.  Until now there was no discussion about using the Library in Select Library Object mode.  I was only responding to the original question.

  9. If you're still in X14, just right click on the User Library and select Search Folder.  If you're on X15, just click on the User Library and then enter your search term(s).  No need to even set up a special filter.

  10. You should really figure out a way to post the plan.  Use Dropbox maybe, try zipping, or delete everything that isn't necessary to show the problem.  In fact, in simply trying to delete all the unnecessary bits, you may inadvertently figure out the problem on your own.  Regardless, you'll find that you get a lot less interest from people willing to help with problem like these without posting the plan.  There are simply too many variables and not many people want to rack their brain for possible causes and then play a long drawn out guessing game to figure out whether they're right or not.  Its' not god for you either because a lot of times those guesses waste your time and energy as well.

Is it possible to edit the categories in schedules? I've added a "New Custom Category" and now would now like to modify / delete the name of it and can not seem to find a way to do so. Does anyone have direction on this?

The question has been marked as answered already, but I think a few additional things should really be noted on this:

The title and wording of your question refer to both Schedule Categories/New Custom Categories but your screenshot is showing Note Types/New Note Types.  These are 2 entirely different things.  Although the Note Types show up as available Schedule Categories, they themselves are not actually Custom Schedule Categories and must be deleted through Note Type Management as @scottharris already pointed out.  As another example, adding a Wall Type would also create a new Schedule Category which in turn would need to be deleted by removing the Wall Type through the Wall Type Definitions dialog.  Same goes for Room Types which must be deleted through the Room Types dialog--and so on.  A new object type will create a new category that can in turn only be deleted by deleting that particular object type through its appropriate dialog.

Actual Custom Schedule Categories on the other hand can be managed through Default Settings>Schedules>Custom Schedule Categories.

How do I tell the program to make new baselines automatically?

Making new baselines automatically isn't a thing because it would be useless and potentially confusing.  The whole purpose of making Baseline Polylines is to disconnect the automatic roof from using the roof directives in your walls and rooms to use using directives from the baseline polyline instead.  An automatically regenerated baseline polyline would have to adjust based on walls and rooms and would therefore serve no purpose.  At some point you just need to say "okay, its time to make that disconnect." and click on that Make Roof Baseline Polylines tool.

You should not be stepping through a door that swings away from you as you're also stepping down. This is incredibly dangerous.

I doubt you actually believe what you’re saying as strongly as you’re letting on unless you’re also totally opposed to shower curbs and storm doors.

Regardless of that though, perceived danger isn’t the discussion.  We’re talking about code requirements, and I am quite familiar with the definitions of not only stairway but also stair, landing, floor, riser, and flight amongst other applicable terms.  It makes absolutely perfect sense to me, exactly as written ESEPCIALLY considering all those definitions, and I don’t see how they could’ve made it any more clear.  In essence:

Egress doors need properly sized floors or landings at or near threshold height on both sides.  An exception is made to allow a drop on one side provided that the door doesn’t swing over that dropped landing.  For these required egress doors there is no exception made for a landing on both sides.

For non-egress doors, the requirement is relaxed a bit to allow for a drop on both sides (irrespective of door swing).  In addition, an exception is granted to do away with one of the required landings provided that the door doesn’t swing over the stairs on that exempted side.

And if the code itself isn’t clear enough regarding both levels of relaxed requirements, then the official IRC commentary should further clear it up:

    Quote

For exterior doors other than the required egress door, the top of the threshold can be up to 73/4 inches (196 mm) above both the inside and outside floor surface.
