Thanks, Alan and Gene. I have already informed the client that it will have to be commercial and expensive, at least for residential, and that no one locally can probably do this. We have buildings with the panel system as well as Dryvit finishes, which I have done several. But the client doesn't want Dryvit; sure eliminates lots of good possibilites.

Thanks, Alan. This "look" is just not used here (probably for obvious reasons) and I was hoping some of you guys on the west coast would chime in. I am concerned about the cold winters with an occasional ice storm we sometimes have. Snow is not so much of a problem if the roof is not flat - which this one pretty much is. Does the finish you mention work OK over a framed structure, or are most of these homes concrete?

Lew, this one is somewhat of a "hybrid." His father-in-law is currently paying the bill and will have a mother-in-law suite attached to the main structure. I really like his father-in-law; very nice fellow and easy to work with, which is the only reason I'm still on this project.

Thanks, guys. This client is a bit of a pain to work with. In addition to being very arrogant, he doesn't really know what he wants - only what he doesn't want. And what still remains, as far as options, is vast. Mike

Using X6. I have a client who wants a new residence using similar materials to the one in the attached photo from the internet. This will be built on the Tennessee/Alabama line where we have considerable rainfall, with some snow and ice. What are you guys on the west coast using for exterior materials for these designs? I have looked at numerous options from HardiPanel vertical siding to high-end European panels. But I can't seem to find this "look." He doesn't want Dryvit. Also, the roofs appear to be near flat. Are you using a non-vented roof design with EPDM for your roofing material? And, how do you flash the roof edges like shown? The photo is at a distance and hard to see, but the edge flashing appears to be at least the same color as the wall panels, or whatever you are using. Thanks, Mike

Polyline Solids - Why Does This Happen?
Ridge_Runner replied to Tony_Sterba's topic in General Q & A
I've had this issue with polyline solids as "trim" from the beginning with X6. Don't know why it does or what triggers it. It doesn't do it all of the time, but when it does it is frustrating. Like you, I just "fix it." It usually stays put after that. I have never been able to determine what I did that might have been different than before; it just seems to happen. One thing I have noticed is that it doesn't always edit properly in 3D or elevation view. And sometimes it doesn't edit properly in plan view but will in 3D or elevation. Other times it works correctly - go figure! Mike -
Just noticed that exterior entry doors are doing the same thing. The garage doors show correctly. Go figure.

Same here. I reset the R.O. as suggested and at least got a correct elevation. Must be a problem with the new update which I am running.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I have looked at all of the ones you mention (I think). The Disto would be great, but I am leaning toward the $100-150 price range; those mentioned that are accurate to 1/16" to 1/4" should do fine. Thanks again. Mike

Doing much more remodeling work for one of my builders than I ever have for some reason. I find I could really use a good laser tape measure. I have an old ultrasonic device, but it is outdated and not very accurate - useless really. I realize trying to get a "best" is probably like which is better: Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, BMW (maybe not!). That said, what are some of you remodeling guys using that works for you? Primary concerns are accuracy, backlit display, functional in bright sun if possible. Price range: under $200 bucks if possible. Thanks, Mike

Running the current update of X6. I have started from scratch with new Template, Annotation Sets, Layersets. Started new plan in X6 - did not bring one forward. Simple plan - walls only; no fixtures; no windows or doors; no roof; only exterior and interior walls with auto dims and some manual. When I go either to the page setup or the Print option, it takes a long time to ever get to the dialog boxes; the dreaded Windows "wait" symbol is active for 30-60 seconds or more before getting to a dialog box for the printer. This was a clean download with the current update 16.2.0.47x64. X5 never had this problem. I am printing just plan views from the plan to check and use for load calculations - layout is not even open; I haven't even tried printing from layout yet.

I, too, have a problem with the toolbars refusing to stay put. They change their size mostly and not only from session to session but from view to view as I work. I am constantly resizing them back to a squarish (I know, not a word) shape instead of the telephone pole they resort back to. I choose to float most of my toolbars and that is probably why they move so much. But for me, the fixed locations take too much mouse travel. My wrist gets tired enough already without having to constantly move all the way across the screen to pick a new tool. Spellchecker? I don't even see a spell checker. Mike

I posted a similar item on a different thread yesterday on other X6 issues. I guess I should have started a separate thread on this one. Before X6, I was able to have the child buttons display "on" the same toolbar (which I customized) as the parent. When I clicked a parent button the child buttons would change accordingly and show up right under the parent group. Worked great for me. I have tried everything and cannot get this functionality back. I have the floating child toolbar next to my floating parent toolbar. I prefer to float them as opposed to fixed location. I move them when needed and I get considerable more screen space. Mike Blackwood

Tried making another toolbar. Parent/Child buttons behave exactly the same way as X6 "Architectural Features" toolbar. It looks like we are forced to use two toolbars where one worked before.

Thanks Glenn. I have been using tick marks for dimensions for years; never had a problem. With X5, it worked fine. With X6, after reading your reply, I set the tick marks down to 3" and they worked. You are right, Glenn, but I wonder why I never had a problem with the larger arrow settings before? Also, Glenn, in X5 my main toolbar would display the child buttons below the parent buttons; pick a parent button and the child buttons would change accordingly. I believe I created that toolbar. It doesn't work like that using Chief's "Architectural Features" toolbar that displays right out of the box. I will experiment and create another toolbar similar to what I used in X5 and see how that one works. Thanks again, Glenn.

Thanks, Ash-999; did all of that - no luck. Thanks, Drawzilla. My video card is older but it ran X5 just fine - even the 3D stuff. I don't do much final rendering so I don't need the horsepower some do.

This was a clean download with the current update 16.2.0.47x64. X5 never had this problem. Dimensions: Added an Interior "string" of dimensions. X6 will not display the arrows (using tick marks) for any of the interior walls - only the two on the exterior walls. If I turn "Suppress Wall Widths" on or off it doesn't matter; the wall widths will turn on or off, but not the tick marks. Cannot find any setting to correct this. No problem in X5. [edit] - I just changed the tick marks to arrows - they show up fine - go figure. Toolbars: What happened to the "Child" buttons displaying on the main toolbar. Now it appears they only reside on a separate toolbar. I know how to change from "drop down" to "child" but what gives with this separate toolbar to keep up with? I am surely missing something or is this a Mac thing that doesn't seem logical to a Win user? Thanks for any feedback. Not bashing X6. Just don't want to upgrade backwards.
