  1. Most customers today use Composite decking. For stairs its required to have stringers framed 12" on center. It would be a good idea to do overhaul on the whole stair including railings, stringers and stringer framing (stair planking on and off), etc.

  2. Thank you everyone!

Joe, my electrician never raised an issue with my corners being build that way, I been doing corners that way for almost 30 years and he been doing my electrical work for as long, and he always gets the wire in without a problem.

I agree with Builtright, My carpenter dont need a framing plan, or material list, he does his own material takeoff from the plan dimensions. A few times in the past, I gave my lumber yard to do the takeoff and they use advanced takeoff software, and they always come up short or way over, so my carpenter been doing his own material list and he is always on the money.

  3. How're you fellas, I hope everyone had a good weekend.

I have a quick question about the way a corner is being framed, I could swear I saw someplace there was an option where you can select the corner type but I can't find it.

When I turned the framing on, and I never paid attention to that, but I just noticed that on one side the corner is being framed one way, the other side the other way. I made a sample how I like my corners to be framed and I know I saw an options for that bit I can't remember where it was or how to bring that up.

Maybe someone can help me out how to change that. Attached is the image of what I'm talking about.

    Thanks!

  4. I was looking for a wide format printer and I'm glad I saw this post. I was debating Epson (in question) or HP Officejet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One... I wonder if anyone is using or used HP one with CA?

With that said, it makes sense to print to PDF and after to the printer. Some files if I try to print are printing slow but the min you do it through PDF it moves much faster.

  5. Larry, I experienced the same thing with the re-draw, I thought it was me doing something wrong. Also sometimes the terrain would go nuts maybe thats what Scott's misbehavior is.

With that said I'm not that good with the terrains to begin with, but thanks to you Larry and that video you posted it helped alot, but still if I try to do something on the bigger scale with lots of elevation changes ooh Man, I have a lot more to learn.

A nice webinar or a video from pros or even CA staff would definitely help for many of us I'm sure.

  6. Greg,  You can use a Stadard Railing, check it to "Follow Stairs" and move it onto the Stairs.

OTOH, one of the things we've been asking for is Stair Railings that have the same capabilities as Guardrails.  Maybe X8?

Thank you Joe, doing that totally slipped my mind!

I hope in 8 they will do a nice overhaul when it comes to stairs and railing, but I think something like this can be added with a version upgrade, the script is in place they just have to tweak the script a little.

  7. There is an option to put a lower rail on the deck and landing railings, but I don't see that option on the stairway railing. Am I missing that option or its not available on the stair railings? Its not that important for interior railings since 90% of the time there is no lower rails, but on the exterior deck stairway 90% of the time lower rail is being used.

  8. Sketchup, you can capture the region and get your elevation data, you can also get your contour lines spaced at what ever intervals you prefer and import that to CA. Scott posted a youtube video, where Justin explaining how to achieve that using Sketchup.

You can also get  quiet a few videos on that on youtube.

  9. Sure did Larry, and I know what a pain in the A$$ terrains can be...and the only thing that would give me hard time. . But this was the best terrain video I've seen and I tried doing same on a few plans I had laying around and it was a breeze.

    Thanks again!!!
