I understand the logic behind wanting to force regular users into a subscription model.... it's cashflow and a lower barrier for entry for new users.... Adobe did it, Microsoft did it.... I'm not a fan of it though which is why I have the last standalone versions of Office and CS. With CA, you are (with the SSA carrot and update price stick) locked into a choice that I'm not overly comfortable with..... I moved over from AutoSketch and started with buying X9, also bought X11 outright and have upgraded along the way with SSA... Some of the updates are welcome but the whole PBR engine change has also placed people (me anyway) in the position that I need to seriously upgrade my desktop as it doesn't even do the basic renders anymore. 3 Years ago I bought a computer with a GeForce 1660Ti video card that was totally ok with most of the updates until they changed the rendering engine. Now I can't even do a basic render anymore (this image is a simple render using default interior settings after TWO HOURS).... It's such a poor quality that I don't even bother now and I can't do the PBR as my card isn't within min specs... So, I started looking into the cost of the lastest cards (around $1000) a couple of months ago based on the requirements being at least an RTX 3030. I figured then that I may as well upgrade the whole computer which meant around $4k..... but found a few deals around $3k for what I wanted, only to find the minimum specs have stepped up again so soon it's back to the start! It's gone from a 3030 to a 3060 and now a 3080 all within a very short period of time. CA in my opinion needs to figure out if they want to be a twinmotion clone or an architectural software provider. Which goes back to my conundrum.... I was perfectly happy with the software for my needs and using twinmotion IF I needed a higher quality render.... If we are locked into a SSA as the only way to get updates then the CA changes also affect the hardware needed to run it as CA appear to be in a steep rendering development curve that I for one don't really want to be part of. Don't get me wrong, I have no issue updating my desktop as when I do I go at our near top of the specs (I only draw my own projects and a select number of clients so it's not my primary means of earning an income)..... but I'm uneasy at the speed at which the minimum requirements keep changing and it no longer does even a basic render...... My point here is that the pace of (rendering) change at the expense of actual productive requests/features by full time members here is seriously giving me pause for thought..... Thanks

I don't use any separators....metric being multiples of 10 on plans I usually use simple numbers eg 800mm is 800, 2.4m is noted as 2400, 24m in noted as 24000 as shown below etc...

Hello All I am raising the roof over a single room in one part of a house and over several rooms in another part to create some street interest. I have simply raised the ceiling height in the rooms dbx to create the effect that I want, however that places the ceiling framing at the wrong height as in the case of the corner bedroom, I'm not raising the ceiling all the way. I have tried to create the result that I want ie ceiling at correct height by using an air cap above the ceiling but that obviously leaves the framing for the ceiling in the wrong place. I can't put an air gap in the roof as the roof crosses over into other rooms where it ties in. Is there a better way to show the ceiling framing in the correct area (eg adjust the framing height?) or should I just delete the framing and do it manually? Also, I'd like to split the wall framing into two sections to show the new framing over the top of the existing (ie extending up) as the framing produced now just shows new taller walls..... Can anyone show me the way to do this? Secondly, I saw in one of the framing videos the use of turning the new framing into another color and I want to use it as it simply illustrates the new work I want to show. I'm stumped as to how to change the color of the wood like they have in the vids.... can anyone show me please? Thank you

Polyline solids not showing in Plan yet slab is....
John_Charles replied to John_Charles's topic in General Q & A
Hi All I have done a workaround which suggests it's to do with a conflict between my layer settings and sets. I've just migrated the whole model to a fresh template plan file and everything is showing..... I'll just have to fiddle and figure out what it is later... Thank you all for your help.... -

Thanks.... I've checked the lines etc and it's black... here is the Cad object checked and selected..... -
Polyline solids not showing in Plan yet slab is....

Yeah it's too big... and my other test plan is fine.... -
Hello All I've been playing around with some shapes and along the way I seem to have changed a display option that is causing no end of frustration to find. In plan view, I can draw a CAD object, but as soon as I convert it to a polyline solid it disappears from my plan view yet remains visible in 3D. I can draw a slab in plan and it shows in both, but not a polyline. I can draw the polyline solid in 3D and it's there, but does not show in plan at all yet is selectable in plan and is showing in the active layer as checked to display..... It's a head scratcher for me..... Can anyone solve this?

That's great thank you! I've looked at the settings you used and I can get it pretty close except for two items.... I see that the thickening of the external material means that the gutter which I've got showing is 'buried' in the wall layer... Is there a way to 'offset' it to compensate for the material thickness? I don't understand what you mean by the calibrated texture? I have ( I thought) used the same texture for each of the walls/roof? Re the images you supplied, would you be willing to tell me your camera / view settings? I don't normally bother with anything other than standard view as I export to Twinmotion but I like the look of what you've done there.... I appreciate you taking the time...

Hello All Thank you for your suggestions.... I'm 'almost' there.... I think I'm missing something here with the settings as I'm not able to resolve the gable or get the roof and wall joint to meet up as shown below. I'm also struggling with the porch detail which I know I can resolve the ceiling with a flat ceiling plane and a trim molding.... but wanted to ask if anyone has any other suggestions? Because I want to have a split level I'm not sure how to have the siding show at the same levels on the porch wall? I've knocked up a quick model showing the intent in X12 and attached. The wall structure is a rain screen and I've tried it with and without the screen but can't get it to join. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Best regards Sample Plan 2.plan

Hello All I am doing some messing around on a modern project and wonder if anyone can help me create settings / manipulate CA to achieve what I'm looking for without just drawing a whole lot of CAD details (which I'm doing anyway), as I need the elevations to accurately reflect what I want to do. I know that the materials to be used and their substrates will need to be reflected in the wall and roof settings, but at this point I'm still trying to figure out how to do this in CA and show it reasonably. Eaveless Roof - (with and without gutters) I'm trying to work out how to get CA to intersect the wall and roof where the roof cover either has a small drip edge into a gutter and have the wall cover finish directly up underneath, or without a gutter as shown in the quick sketch attached below. I have tried to manipulate settings in the attached sample file but I get no gutter when I want it and in the example of no gutter, need to know how to manipulate the wall cover up to the intersection of the roof. Window Head flashing as sill / Window drip edge I'm trying to work out how to use a CAD molding as a head flashing within the wall layers or window treatment so that it is also appearing to be an external sill, and as an alternative, extend the wall covering down over the head to create a drip edge. Can anyone point me to some settings, how to's or help with how to achieve these? Thank you. J Sample Plan.plan
