Well I added two more dormers & this time the entire dormer appears on the second floor plan view, not just the outline.. I added these while in Ortho View, What determines what floor they are displayed on. The previous two i added appear in the Attic.
-
OK that worked. But what is the railing getting it's elevation from?
-
Yes it is thanks.
-
Ah, Roof Opening Layer worked. Thanks! Although I wish it did not penetrate the 2nd floor ceiling at all.

Adding a Floating Dormer to my 8/12 roof with attic I get an outline of the dormer in plan view of the 2nd floor. The dormer is intended to be a false dormer & open to the attic with pre manufactured trusses. There is to be no connection to the second floor. I can not select or remove the outline appearing in plan view of the 2nd floor. What did i miss? Again thanks for your help.

Did they shut http://www.chieftalk.com/ down?

Plan file is here https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/4571-roof-or-room-will-not-delete-or-rebuild/

I created a curved balcony over the front door & all worked well with curved railing & no room Def & No Locate. But when I used a p-solid for a false balcony next to it the same railing will not move into place. I can not move it in the z-axis. Is there a setting for the railing that I missed?

Thanks for the replies. I found this morning that closing the drawing helped. Larry showed that I have problems wit both garages. Larry there was a garage on the left but disappeared when drawing was re-opened. although a hidden wall remained. I was able to redraw the garage & the ROOM was created. Maureen, as you can see on the attached photo dragging with the rectangle edit tool would not work on this room. Thanks, I'll keep you posted

plan attached. I decided to reconfigure the garage to side load. Single car on the upper left of plan. So I went to 1st floor & broke exterior wall & pulled wall left to 20'8" & continued with 1st floor shape of garage. The went to foundation & did same. Moving to roof & deleted the roof over the garage. At 2nd floor I changes the shape to ,match the first floor. The tried to rebuild roof. None would rebuild on 2nd floor only first floor. I tried to delete 2nd floor walls & attic wall appears & could not delete. I rebuilt 2nd floor & no room definition or roof . So what did I do wrong & hot to fix it. Bash.zip

OK sorry, the trick is to set the post spacing closer, like 12" and reduce the size of the post to say 1".

When I apply the iron to a curved railing it straightens out.
-
OK looking very good now. Thanks for the help.
-
Yes, you are correct as room divider left me with no siding on the floor system.
-
So you define the room with "room dividers" & Then draw railing out in space, mark then "no room" and drag them into the room. How is the elevation of the railings controlled? I'll give it a try.

I have a covered Lanai with balcony above, like a deck but not a Deck. I created the balcony with walls & the made then into railings but I want the railing to be inset from the room edge so that it is near the center of my column. How to go about this?
-
Joe, works great. Thanks so much. One odd thing is that it is not visible in plan view over interior wall. I did use bring to front on it but no luck. Lower left one is OK.
-
Oh wow, that looks identical. Hope I can repay the favor someday. Off to try it out.
-
Thanks Joe. I was thinking the pony wall would be easiest to create but may not give me enough control of where the glass sets on the wall. The 3D Symbol sounds like the most flexible option with placement & stretch ability but out of reach with my current skill level. I will attempt it if time permits. Those molding plines are a PITA to move around on elevations but that may be the way I go first.
-
How would you go about creating this glass & Steel divider? It will likely set on top of a counter top or perhaps a half wall. Obviously it need not be exactly as shown. Just a easy method to create & manage in the drawing.
-
Thanks for your time Dennis, I think I did not set the frame width but did set separation to 0.
-
Thanks Joe, My knowledge is so limited I don't see all the options yet. But things are getting better. Here it is with a 1/16 arch, that was the key all along. I'm just roughing things out so all the openings & knee walls are not correct yet.
-
Joe, what did you use to fill in above the half wall?
-
Yes, but I figured out what is going on. When you add an arch to one of the doorways it will join. That's what Scott was using. Here is a 0.25 arch
-
Well half wall still has a partition. Is there a min, separation for doors? Don't like the fact that I now have to build a soffit to fill in above the opening left by the half wall. Scott, wake up. The sun should be coming up in California about now. I'm pretty sure Scott was using door ways & the video was to help someone with arched or round top doorways & thick walls as I remember.
