I am trying to create concrete steps both curved & straight attached together. My first thought was to do a section view, create a face & extrude along a path like I would do in ACAD. But I don;t see a way to do that in Chief. How would you do this task. Working in X8 so no plan to attach, sorry.

Thanks Joe, I've been able to use CA stairs so far. Mine have all been outdoor or patio stair so metal has been fine. If interior it should be a fancy stair.
-
Now if CA would add a "User Select" button to the "Match Properties" dialog so the user could marque select that items & not All on the floor. That would be a nice additional selection tool.

Wow, works a treat. Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I will try then out when I return from tennis.

This is a common scenario for me. I want to select text over the WM & Dryer to copy to the electrical layer. The room label & actual fixtures get selected first. So shift select is not efficient because you have to jump through hoops to get the selection you want. . Similar problem when I want to select only the windows on the front of the house. Do you really have to turn off all the layers and then turn on the target layers to accomplish this common operation?

Has anyone mentioned budget or max square footage?

The shape of the house is interesting but, the design is lacking. For starters I would want an overlook., open to view the living room. Also a mud room or bathroom & laundry ILO the large laundry. Off to bed.

Joe, is that CA stair?
-
Thanks for the feed back. Jonathan, that is how I did it in the end. Joe, I did give up that design as I had enough room for a one level landing but seems that CA should deal with attached landings.

So what is it about having two landing together that CA will not recognize? Am I missing a trick to get them to attach?
-
No snow, thank you very much. We can live without it. Well the creation of the basic 2 flights of stair & two landings has eluded me. Do you make two sets & the subtract the top off one set & the bottom off the other with the Lock top & lock bottom. Then add landings? I guess I need to go find the stair videos again. I do know about dragging the wall under the stair & hope the stair stays out. It seems that the two landings are giving me a fit as I try to have CA auto calc the rise.

Trying to create a switchback stair with stepped landing. Also dividing wall on first level & railing on 2nd level (2nd flight of stair. What is the trick to doing this painlessly? Thanks 2748 Plan.plan

Much appreciated, too many settings No really, just need to better understand them all.

See attached plan. What am I doing wrong? I want the Auto Exterior dimensions to the exterior of the block & not the Stucco layer. Thanks Test Plan.plan

The auto Roof works OK if you set the walls up first. Select the gable end walls, the 2 obvious ones. Open the DBX, then roof then check Full gable End. On the wal that has a gable & a side roof you will need to BREAK the wall. Then select the gable section of the wall & set it to Full gable End OK now build the roof. Select all the roof planes & use the Transform/Replicate tool to set a Z-value of say 6 feet to raise the roof allowing room for the second floor. Mtn Cabin.plan

I sure hope CA address the lack of room numbers too. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/5715-door-window-numbering-again/#entry64095

Trying another approach to Room Numbers I thought use Call outs but no way to create a Table of call outs based on Shape. Well not table based on anything for call outs I guess. Also there is the problem of not enough shape options. I would like rectangle, oval and flat oval as options. Attached is a Text on the left & Call out on the right. No way to deal with word wrap. The SQUARE gets too big, needs a rectangle. Are there word wrap characters that can force word wrap. Like in ACAD \P or \X or \R will force a wrap.

Thanks Joe. In ACAD you can add xData to an object, layer, etc. Then with MACRO (Lisp) you can retrieve the xData & use in your own label etc. Too bad CA will not open the database to users.

OK here is the deal, i need a Room Name and a Room Number. These should be separate fields so I can change the room number but leave the room name as is. I know Joe has some wiz-bang Ruby scripts to do this but I don't have time to learn Ruby today. This would even be handy in a very large home. You may have more than one Hall Bath.

Sorry for the late reply, I was off sleighing dragons. Well, maybe just putting out fires. I have another job that need room numbering as well as doors & windows. That is what brought me back to this thread. As for Chief desires, how about: Manual and automatic renumbering with these options / check boxes Horizontal - "Left to Right" or "Right to Left" Vertical - "Top to Bottom" or "Bottom to Top" Use Letters or Numbers Skip I an O option if letters. Add Prefix and Suffix fields Start number or Letter field Edit the number directly in the table, this will auto resort the table & renumber accordingly Same with Tags, this will auto resort the table & renumber accordingly Edit any field directly from the table Select an item in the tab;e & option to Zoom to it in the Drawing. That's all i can think of off the top of my head.

I have created 3 slabs at the exterior stair landing and now want to delete them. They ere part of an earlier design but I can not remember which view I was in when I created them. Seem that I can not select then in any view. Englewood.zip

Well, the point of having "Automatic Tables" is that they update when the plan changes. It is way too hard to make this work. (My 2 Cents)

If you have a Block with many lines & you want to adjust a line or two. How do you edit that block only. Exploding it where it sits because too many other objects around and to re block is a PITA. The Layer filter thing is doable in most cases but seems like a lot of hoops to jump through. In Autocad, just double click & a dialog pops up, option to edit, Yes puts you in a isolated space no other objects. When saved back you come to the drawing, any other blocks of the same name are updated too.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a dynamic shelf tool?
