  1. Yep same here. I updated Chief and since then two crashes in one day. I also noticed excessive time wait for tasks too. One was an SEH error, the other when I used the undo button the whole thing just closed up shop. I have all my drivers for everything updated. I hope theres another update to the update to wrap X11 up nicely before X12 comes out for those of us who dont upgrade every year.
  2. Thanks so much for all the replies. Bingo! Chopsaw you got it exactly right, I clicked off the railing box and it went up as normal. I havent used pony walls in chief much so all these features are still new to me. Thanks guys for the input and the help!
  3. Can anyone tell me why when using a pony wall the glass doesnt reconnect above the glass shower door? While when using a glass sheet wall, not a pony wall, the glass reconnects above the shower door? I painted the glass so you can see in the pictures what Im talking about. I love to use the pony walls for showers but this isnt correct how the glass seperates. Thanks, Chad
  4. Thanks! Makes me feel better that its not everybody elses Chief too. I will go look into those suggestions and see if I can fix it. Thanks Chopsaw!
  5. When I place library object Im noticing if you select any other color bone, cream etc it will show up to select as the toolbar representation but the white color is blank. Is this just my chief or is that the same for yours too?
  6. Thanks Chopsaw you have all my answers for my questions tonight! Thanks for all your help!
  7. I have several kitchen designs with glass doors with many different cabinet door styles. I noticed Chief only allows glass doors to be selected from framed doors.... is this the only style allowed to have glass doors in Chief?? Thanks!
  8. Great! Thanks to you both for the additional links. Yes, this is a much more detailed way of doing it, I was just dragging the place object and then the toolbar was stuck with the title "custom place library object" and I thought who cares it works but yes it would be nice to make it appear nicer. When I look down on the link and see the "color palette" toolbar shown there, that's exactly what they use to have premade. They use to have several of them you could choose from. Now understanding toolbars better, over the years, these could come in handy for me and that's why I wanted to find them but couldn't find them anywhere. So do either of you remember them being in Chief many years ago? Just trying to figure out if it was like X2 or what... I cant remember when they disappeared and why.
  9. Thanks for the reply Chopsaw. I am familiar with that tool to make custom toolbars on the toolbar but remember when they use to have these toolbars floating on the 3d screen that had colors of paint etc. It use to be a selection you could hide them or have them available to use. I guess I will just try the place library object and go about it that way, I just remembered they were preset and then you could double click them to change the colors. I just cant find them anywhere, thus making me wonder what happened to them. Thanks again!
  10. I remember many versions ago of chief in 3d they use to have tool bar configurations with floating color palettes that you could assign color or material textures to that you use often to help make quick 3d adjustments to your 3d model. At the time I didn't use them but have since thought using them would save a ton of time. For some reason I cant find them on the toolbar configuration option. Does anyone know what Im talking about and where those might be now? Thanks!
  11. Thanks for the reminder Glen, I appreciate it!

    Arrow

System crashed and I had to reinstall everything. Now Im customizing everything to my liking since its the right opportunity to do it fresh again. In the preference tab you have the colors dbx for background and colors for the dashboard. When you click on the arrow key you can adjust colors for the grid lines. When I make an adjustment to the colors in preferences they stay default, when I make changes to the arrow key grid lines they change back to prior settings when opening another plan. Can I keep the grid line color adjustments on preferences too? I havent had to do these small tasks in over a decade so Im forgetting the small stuff. Thanks!
  13. Thanks for the link Glenn. Yeah I tried the manual 3d molding and it wasnt working for me so I just added the frieze molding in roof dbx but that didnt work either. I will check out this link you provided. Thanks for replying!
  14. Can anyone tell me why the frieze moldings wont come together nicely at the corners? This isnt a specific plan just a default everything box with frieze molding for gable and eaves. Any ideas how to get this to look ok? Thanks!
  15. Great recommendation, thanks so much Eric!
  16. Instead of a traditional covered porch, I was looking to do an open air trellis veranda. I know with the traditional framing of a covered roofed porch the beams etc arent usually as thick because its not for the look but the build of it. Often times trells porches have oversized beams to have a more substantial appearance. What is the best recommended way to created a trellised porch in chief? I noticed there are premade trellis etc in the library but its not exactly what Im looking for. I wanted to ask you all since Im sure someone has done this before. Thanks!
  17. Thanks Mick. Its strange how some of the materials are affected while others are just fine.
  18. Here we go again...different texture...from the Coronado library... Whats up with this?
  19. Ken, now that is a standing seam roof! It looks fantastic!
  20. I think all these suggestions have been great. I think what were all looking for is a decent texture that wont take a lot of time but appear as realistic as possible. I do think the older textures I posted looks better then the new. Heres another comparision... both pictures feature ribbed metal roofing on the left and standing seam on the right. You can see a clear difference between the two textures in X7 but in X11 the standing seam looks more like the ribbed roofing without much differentiation. A lof of us long term chief users remember a time we didnt even use bump maps but the renderings still were able to look realistic (somewhat obviously). I know there are many ways like Joe mentioned of creating extremely detailed, very realistic roofing textures but then we all have to weigh out the value vs time. It would be nice if we could have all the updates on best materials for PBR and rendering but also have them look the most realistic to what they really look like. (X7 vs X11 textures)
  21. Thanks Mick I will check my other post out.
  22. Upon further research on the X7 textures Ive realized the Standing Seam texture is the good texture I liked. I went ahead and imported it into X11 and you can see a huge difference in the two textures. The yellow roofing is X7, the beige X11.
  23. Yikes, all this updating libraries and loosing old textures is making me nervous about not wanting to do anything with them. In another post I have called "Standing Seam" the great metal roofing textures have been changed, specifically the Standing Seam metal roofing with a less realistic (in my opinion) texture. I cant remember what version the old textures were in. I might try and call tech support and ask if they can send the old metal roofing textures, as I like them better. Mick, I looked in both my X10 and X11 Certainteed libraries and they are identical?? Where was this fiber cement texture library located in the certainteed folder, I dont see it anywhere?? A chief library manager is clearly needed in this software, to help us keep the textures updated, or the old ones saved and to know what we have and dont have in the library. Back when the libraries were small (which Im not complaining, I like the bigger library varieties) it was easier to keep track of what libraries we had. Now that theres thousands of items its much harder to track whats what.
  24. I think Im going to call tech support and ask if they can just send me the old chief metal roofing textures from yesteryear Chief. Even if the PBR isnt integrated in the texture it still looked really good rendered. I have X7 and the texture was similar so I think it might have been prior to X6 that they changed it and Ive deleted the old versions off my computer. This is what concerns me, on my other topic post about updating catalogues, you update and loose some of the best textures. The problem is you dont know your going to loose the texture till you update the catalogue and then months later or longer you go back to the texture you need again and its gone in past versions somewhere. Would love to have the option to know whats updating and whats being replaced so we can add to our user library and not loose the textures.
  25. Thanks for the addtional information Mick. I was on the phone with Cameron in Tech support yesterday and he noted that the Pentaltek was duplicating but the Viking was not. So not sure why, I will test this out in my library and see what happens. Can I ask, when you go to import lets say the certainteed X10 library, how do you go about importing it with a changed name within X11? I want to make sure the name is changed enough so that it works out the way it did for you. Thanks!
