  1. I am not sure I understand how that works. When I switch from the foundation plan to the framing plan and vice versa it automatically switches the pony wall to the previous plan view. So I cannot even get to having different layout views for the pony wall. In the past, I saved the entire plan with a "save as" then named it foundation plan for "xx". that way I could send the different plan views to the different layout views.
  2. Thanks, I was afraid that was the case. Takes the wind out of the layer set sails.
  3. Got it, thanks. I drew a wood partition wall, then changed it to a foundation wall. No good. I drew a foundation wall, and changed the wall type to wood wall. Good.
  4. Next issue... Foundation with pony wall. Upper Wall 2x6 with siding Lower wall concrete, 8". I created a new concrete wall and changed the fill pattern to an angle hatch pattern. I want this to display for the lowered concrete wall. I named it "concrete pony wall". I changed the pony wall to have the "Concrete pony wall" as the lower wall. In the Foundation Layer Set, I set the pony wall to display "lower wall". Exactly what I wanted, as the full height wall fill pattern is concrete, and the dropped concrete wall fill pattern is an angle hatch. I saved the layer set so everything associated with this layer set is saved with it. Or at least that was the plan. The trouble comes when I switch to the Framing layer set. If I switch the pony wall to display the upper portion of the pony wall, it also switches the foundation layer set to show the upper portion. I thought the idea of layer sets was to be able to save all settings so each set would show only what you want it to show. How can I save each set to show the different pony wall displays? Thanks, Lane
  5. I have a plan that requires a bearing wall in the basement. No problem, draw wall, specify foundation wall, and there it is. But, the footings for this wall do not extend beyond the ends of the wall, and neither end of this wall is connected to an outside wall. The footings show up as actually being short of the wood frame bearing wall above. Is there any way to manually adjust the ends of the footings so they go beyond the ends of the walls above? Thanks, Lane
  6. problem solved. cleared my cache, etc. and there it was.
  7. I tried both...its not there. Contacting Tech Support.
  8. I am trying to set the bay windows to match an Andersen Bay Window where the depth is 20", Overall Width is 8', Center is a picture window 4' Wide+/- x 54" Tall+/-. I can get the bay window in the wall, and it looks good, except How do I adjust the heights and widths of the individual window components? I am playing around with lowered ceiling and floor heights, but so far no luck. Thanks, Lane
  9. Thanks for the advice, and my approach was a combination of the suggestions and a few other things. Step 1 Make a complete back up copy, then another back up copy in a folder named "xxxx Mirror Image Plan" Step 2. Open the mirror image plan and re-associate the layout with the plan file in the "Mirror Image Plan" folder. Step 3. Open the front elevation view. Save that as a "View To Cad" Step 4. Do the same for the other elevations. Step 5. Go to the plan file, first floor. Do a "reverse plan" Step 6. Astonishment. It actually worked to about 99% of what needed to be done. Some text was not aligned as it was in the original, but that was an easy fix. Step 6. Remove all of the elevation views from the layout page. Step 7. Open each CAD view for the Front, Rear, Side L, Side R and send them to the layout. Step 8. Praise Chief to no end, as opposed to my usual *&YH^&%&%$# Chief! Some corner posts and a couple of other minor things did not make the flip, but they were easily taken care of. Thanks for the tips! Lane
  10. A client called this morning to ask me what would be involved in reversing her fully completed, building department approved and permitted plan. Not just the plan but everything on the plan (notes, arrows, cad details etc. also need to be mirrored imaged. Can this be done by by doing a mirror image of the entire layout instead of just the plan file? Thanks, Lane
  11. Alaskan_Son, Yes, I tried to "fix" the walls in 3d so to make wall heights the same. The issue was the initial setting for the basement was 9'-1 1/2" (9' wall, 1-1/2" sill plate). In elevation views, the exterior walls showed up as 9'2" and 9'-1 1/2. I checked to see where I went wrong, could not find anything, deleted the basement, re-generated the basemement and the same issues. I did not try manually drawing the basement walls. I am going to make a complete backup, then delete the foundation on the back up and re-build it manually instead of deriving it from the floor above. Maybe its something in default walls, platforms or the like. Lane
  12. Thanks, for the replies, and I will send it to the tech dept. While I am at it I might as well as them why elevation views show the basement walls at 9'2" on one side of the house and 9'1*1/2" on the other three sides. Why the story pole dimensions say the basement slab is 2" lower on one side of the house than the other. I even deleted the basement and rebuilt it, with the same result. I thought that might be the floor above, but everything holds the same for ceiling heights, floor joists, ceiling joists etc. Nothing is perfect, and Chief proves that again and again, but all things considered there is always a workaround. 13. I had to decrease the backsplash from 3/4" to 1/4" and that allowed it to show up. Have no idea why that worked but it did.
  14. I have a receptacle that shows up in plan view, but not in wall elevation view. All the other electrical components show up except this one. To place it, I copied and pasted it from a receptacle to the side of it. In face I copied it and pasted it several locations, and they all show up....except for this one. Plan is attached. I suspect it has something to do with the kitchen cabinets or backsplash but I cannot figure it out. I marked it in the kitchen plan view . Thanks, Lane DeMuro_Ranch_Plan.plan
  15. I am drawing joist bridging perpendicular to floor joists. The end of the bridging will not snap to the corresponding floor joist. I have "on object" checked in object snaps, and object snaps is on. What setting am I missing? Thanks Lane
  16. I have a few things to finish up on the plan before I do the final elevations and story pole dimensions, but I have some issues that are difficult for me to solve. The plan is attached, and the issues are noted in each of the four elevation views (floor plan dimensioned 1st floor). In short, for some reason the garage walls have a thin first course of siding, and other walls have a full width siding starter course. Some foundation walls show 9'2" and I figure out where that comes from. Then a roof return issue and a porch post issue. In the front elevation, I get a roof return on one side, no return on the other. I would like to move the porch post a an inch or so to the right, and to the rear but only this one post. 17. ah ha! It did not work because I did it wrong! But, when I did it right, it is exactly what I wanted to do. Thanks so much! "It was well thought out plan, so why didn't it work?" "Because nobody read the plan" Thanks again!
  18. Didn't work. The new template, with a new name keeps linking to the original file. So how does Chief allow you to create a plan and a layout, then save it as a new plan and layout so the new plan and layout (with a different name of course) reference each other instead of the layout always referencing the original plan. So now, I have to go through each item on every layout page that was sent in from the plan file and re link it to the new file. With twenty plus pages for each layout, that is an incredibly time consuming process. I can remember complaining about file management back in 1998 or thereabouts, and apparently I never understood how to do it or Chief's file management, in a word, sucks. Ihope its me. This is worse than my two divorces....at least with them when it was over, it was over. Apparently Chief never allows you to leave your past behind you.
