  1. Hello, I have this small ranch house with the Front 1st Floor Exterior Wall being a pony wall. The upper part is horizontal siding over wood frame, the lower part is brick veneer over wood frme. All other First Floor Exterior Walls are brick veneer over wood frame. The upper portion of the front pony wall should be horizontal siding from side to side. However the intersecting brick walls are showing at the corners. How do you adjust the corners so the front upper portion is completely horizontal, while the lower portion is completely brick. The plan is attached. Elevation 1 notes the problem on the left side (note only on left side but applies to both sides.) Thanks in advance, Lane De Muro 99 Long Hill Plan.plan
  2. Hello, My layout table will not show sheet 2 or 10. I refreshed the layout drawing, saved it, closed it, opened it again and no luck. What am I missing? File Attached Thanks in advance. Lane De Muro Arch D Layout Template.layout
  3. Thanks, I just looked at the video in You Tube and went referenced plan route. Works fine.
  4. I have a plan where one existing wall will be partially removed. It will be replaced with a partial knee wall, then the balance will be a beam. The idea is to open wall between two spaces, the kitchen and the living room. To attempt this, I created a plan and created two Saved Plan Views and two corresponding Saved Layer Sets. The first Saved Plan View is "Floor Plan View Dimensioned Existing". The corresponding Layer Set is "Floor Plan Dimensioned Layer Set Existing" The second Saved Plan View is " Floor Plan View Proposed" and a corresponding Layer Set "Floor Plan Proposed" Next, I created wall layers and I broke the wall for the Existing plan into several wall sections with each section on a separate layer so each section(s) could be turned on or off in the respective views. In the Floor Plan Existing, all three of the segments show, and it appears to be a single wall, as it is in real life. In the Proposed, I turned off the parts of the wall that I was going to replace so those parts of the existing wall would not show in the proposed plan. So far, so good. But When I tried to create a new wall in the Proposed plan which would take the place of the wall segments in the Existing plan,, the walls either want to connect ,overlap, or simply conflict with each other. There does not seem to be a way to control the different wall layers independently on the different Saved Plan Views or corresponding Layer Sets. I thought control of the plan components was the idea behind Saved Plan Views Layer Sets. The plan is attached. In the "Proposed Plan, I turned off the wall layers from the Existing Plan that are not supposed to show in the Proposed Plan. Since I cannot get new walls to work, I drew CAD polylines to show the new walls. This is ok for 2D, but I will not be able to place electrical outlets on this polyline or have it show in a 3D Overview. So my question is, how can I keep the entire wall (and its associated electrical items) in the "Existing" Plan , but replace part(s) of that wall in the "proposed" plan view. So far, it appears a single space cannot be occupied by different wall types, and Plan Views and Layer Sets are not independent of each other when it comes to walls. Thanks, Lane Shady_Lane_Existing_Plan.plan
  5. Mick, When I set the "top" to 0", it lined up vertically. It did not matter what I set the bottom to, I tried 12" and it still aligned vertically as long as the top was "0". Seems counter intuitive to me. Lane
  6. Is there a way to control the vertical alignment of the grid lines in a Text Table. I would like the text to be centered vertically between the grid lines. I created this using the Text tool. In the Text Specification Box, the Margins are set equally for Top And Bottom. Where is the setting for the vertical alignment? Or, is there a setting for the vertical alignment? Thanks, Lane
  7. See how easy it is when people who know what they are doing show those of us who do not? Thanks a million!
  8. Thanks, but still not able to get what I want. I can place a molding, but cannot get it where it want it to be. Plan is attached, elevation shows where I want it to go. Thanks in advance. Terelli Colonial Plan File 09-04-2019.zip
  9. Eric, I am trying to create a flat, stepped roof over an exterior landing. The Soffits worked great, but I am still having trouble with the crown molding, but it seems I am having a problem with crown moldings in general. Thanks, Lane
  10. Hello, How do you put attach a crown molding to a polyline solid? Thanks, Lane
  11. Mark Thanks! I thought that might be the case, but I did not want to have to undo the deletions from the library if it was not. I am in the beautiful.Town of Newburgh. I built some homes in New Paltz a few years back on Terbar Loop.
  12. Hello, I am updating my existing (user made) library items to more accurately reflect the standards required by the NY Dept. Of Buildings. All of the objects are in the "User" section of the Library. The question is what happens to a plan file and/or layout if I delete a library object? Is the plan file/layout affected so the library object will no longer appear in the plan and a blank space will appear? Or, can I safely delete all of the now unwanted library items and my plans and layouts remain unchanged? Thanks, Lane
  13. What I want is everything in Black and White except for the front cover rendering.
  14. Go to the plan defaults and under windows make minimum separation 3". The bump next to each other, they should not mull automatically. I always dimension to the centerline of the windows, so if they do not work right (sometimes yes, sometimes no, which seems to be common in Chief) I just adjust the actual with the dimensions. Pain in the rear, but thats the lay of the land. As for the framing, I find it way easier and less time consuming to frame manually. For me, automatic framing in chief has always been more like automatic frustration. I do use the automatic framing when making a 3d Framing Overview, but that is just a "suggestion" and it does give the layout a certain "wow" factor, but not much good for anything else.
  15. I would like the first sheet of my layout to be in color, and all the rest of the sheets to be in Black and White. Is there a way to select a single sheet to be printed in color? I am not posting an individual layout because I want to be able to to this with all layouts. Thanks, Lane
  16. Some exterior walls show as solid black fill in plan view, while the others show as I would like, with no fill color in the walls. I have checked the specs for the walls, and cannot find anything different except for the wall stud width. I am missing something, but what? File attached Thanks in advance, Lane 79 Manor Dr..zip
  17. Yes and no. I looked at the training video, and it appears the rafter tail is controlled by the vertical dimension of the fascia. Not the way it works in real life, but apparently the way you have to do it in Chief. I did see where you can add rafter tails from the library, and I am working on that to see how I can do a custom rafter tail. Lane
  18. I want the rafter ends to be a birds mouth cut, but the rafter ends are trimmed to what appears to be the same depth as the sub-fascia. How do I get the Rafter tails to be full birds mouth cut. picture attached Thanks, Lane rafter tail.pdf
  19. Hello, When I do a cross section view I only want to see the framing members, and turn off things like drywall, roofing, mouldings. I am able to get rid of the mouldings, but cant seem to turn off the drywall or roofing. In the Section View dialog box, I have " Walls, Main Layer Only" checked. I know I have to be missing something, any ideas? Thanks, Lane
