  1. Thanks! The dormers and roof holes now look proper. I still have to figure out how to get the siding off the gable end that is visible in the family room. Thanks again!
  2. Hello, I am having trouble with dormers in a cathedral ceiling. I want to be able to look up from inside the room and see the dormer, window etc. I can place the dormer in the roof. I have the ceiling planes set to form the cathedral ceiling. But, there is no opening in the ceiling so the dormer shows through. I tried a hole in the ceiling but got an error message. I unchecked the box for "build walls" in the dormer specification. So, any help with allowing the dormers to show through. The plan file is attached, and the problem is in the "Family Room" Thanks in advance and thanks for all the help so far. Lane Hillcrest_2018--2018-07-20.plan
  3. Hello, I want the countertops to overhang the cabinets on the sides by 1". No problem with that. But... I want the backsplash to line up (vertically) with the edge of the cabinet, not the countertop. I cannot seem to find the setting for the backsplash overhang/width in relation to the cabinet. Thanks in advance. Lane
  4. Richard, yes that was it. I pulled it in from V10, I just thought there might be one in X10 as well. Lane
  5. When building decks attached to the house, the default (seems to be) for the deck ledger attachment to default to the exterior of the stud framing . I need to dimension the deck ledger to the exterior of the wall sheathing, as this is where it acutally attaches to the building exterior. However, I cannot automatically or manually pull the dimension string to snap to the exterior side of the sheathing layer. What setting do I need to change in order to accomplish this? Thanks, Lane
  6. room heights, ceiling and wall finish, roof assemblies, roof pitch, header heights, wall assemblies, insulation etc. It was a typical cross section with blanks that could be filled in with the information.
  7. Hello, In V10, there was a cross section with blank areas to be filled in with the plan specific information. I cant find this little gem in X10. Is it still there or something similar to it? Thanks, Lane
  8. Well that was easy! Thanks so much.
  9. Hello, I cannot figure out why my plan generates two door labels for each door. Window labels work fine. Any suggestions? thanks, Lane Set Up Plan File.plan
  10. How do you go about creating a porch with roof above where: 1. Porch Support walls are frost walls. Frost wall height is 42", frost wall is 8" thick. Footings are 10' x 20" 2. Porch walking surface is a concrete slab, 4" thick, and overhangs frost walls by 3" on three sides (abutts up to building on 4th side) 3. Top of slab is 5" below first floor sub floor (so top of frost walls supporting slab should be 9" below first floor sub floor) I tried by drawing the porch area with regular foundation walls, adjusted the heights, but I cannot get the slab to on top of the frost walls and overhang them by 3". Thanks in advance. Lane
  11. I am trying to mull (2) 12" sidelights to a 3/0x6/8 Exterior Door along with a 12" Tall transom above. While it looks ok in elevation view, inthe schedule it wants to be only a transom window. How do I get it to show up as a single unit in the door schedule? thanks in advance, Lane
  12. I see the symbol for a GFCI, I see the symbol for an AFCI, but I do not see the symbol for a dual function GFCI/AFCI which has been part of the NEC since 2014. How can I modify either the AFCI or GFCI symbol to a brand new AFCI/GFCI symbol? Thanks in advance, Lane
  13. I do the initial plans at a set price. After that, if there are only title block changes (Lot owner, SBL, Street Address) it's $1,200 plus printing charges. If there is anything more involved but the basic house stays the same its an hourly fee of $125.00 plus printing charges.
  14. yup, I am changing them to circles. I thought I was using auto labels. shows what I know.
  15. oops I think I deleted the original post. I want to rotate the window and door labels after creating a schedule. Mt._View_Plan_File.plan
  16. Everything looks good in plan view. When I do a front exterior elevation, the siding is missing from where interior walls intersect the exterior walls. The same thing used to happen in V9 and V10, but I was hoping it would have been magically fixed by now. So, lacking the magic Fix Chief Wand, how can I correct this issue? Thanks Lane Mt. 17. This refers to a "Bi-Level" Type house. In this house the foundation walls are pony walls, with the lower wall being 8" Concrete and the upper portion being 2x6 Wood Framed. What I want to do is name two different plan views for this same floor level. The first plan view is called "Lower Walls". I want to show the lower level interior walls, fixtures, doors, dimensions, etc. For this plan view the lower exterior walls should be visible with the top portion of the wall shown, and the lower portion of the wall outlined. No problem doing this. But now the problem. The next plan view for the lower level is called "Lower Level Foundation" For this view I want to turn off all interior walls, fixtures, doors, dimensions etc. Next, I want this view to show the pony wall lower wall only, i.e. the concrete portion as would show if this was not a pony wall, but a full foundation wall. So I created the two views, copied the first view to the second, then went into the exterior walls tab, and where it gives me the options of showing the portions of the pony wall, I checked "show lower wall" The problem is this automatically changes the view for the "Lower walls" and now both views show the same foundation walls only. I cannot get the lower pony wall to show up only on the foundation plan view. Do I have to go back to my old Chief V10 workaround.....create a complete separate plan, then show only the lower pony wall in that plan, and send that plan to the layout? What am I doing wrong, because I really cannot figure out why Chief now has "plan views" and "plan view sets" if they cannot be separated one from another. Thanks, Lane
  18. Do any of the Chief Door Libraries have an interior barn door? Normally I use 50/68 Bi-Fold on hallway laundry rooms, but lately clients are asking for barn doors. Seems they also want them for bathrooms, bedrooms and just about everywhere a good old hinged door used to go. thanks, Lane
  19. Ok, I see Chief used some information from the Set Up area for each individual window. So checking the box will include the egress info. Got it, thanks. Lane
  20. I want to include certain information for my window and door schedules. The Default Window schedule has been modified to include fields for "Egress" and "Tempered Glass". I have also added fields for Clear Opening Width, Clear Opening Height, Net Clear Opening, Clear Glass Area, Net Ventilation Area. For any given window, under the "Object Information" area, I have assigned a value for each of the above. When I create the Window Schedule, all of the Fields show up, and all of the values are in each Field Category, but "Egress" and Tempered Glass" Field Categories have no values assigned. Anyone know how to fix the schedules and object information so all fields fill in? Thanks, Lane
  21. Can a CAD line be broken into segments, and then each segment assigned a different layer and properties. When I do an elevation view I send it to a Cad View so I can show the elevation with a a grade line. I want the lines below the grade line to be dashed, indicating they are below grade. So If the vertical lines representing the foundation walls can be broken at the grade line, then I could assign a dashed line to the portion below the grade line and leave the line above the grade line solid. Or, is there another way to show the below grade lines as dashed in an elevation view. Thanks, Lane
  22. Yes, I am just want to have things sent to the layout without an automatic label showing up. When it does, I click on the layout box, then turn off the label. I was hoping that there was a default where no label would be applied to whatever view or cad detail I sent to the layout. I will try the above suggestions on my next plan. I am too scared to try it on this one because every time I think I have a fix for something it "unfixes" something else! Since I have only been using Chief since around 2004, I consider myself a true novice. My previous version prior to Premier X was Chief V10. I think I miss it Lane
