  1. Just to wrap up this thread Support confirmed that there's a "bug" in the way Chief reads my plan, too many things happening around that area that it confuses the program. I will also report the bug, just in case. Thanks to all that tried.
  2. Support replied today. On the room projecting over the "open below" room their suggestion worked, basically one has to draw another room on top of the projection, of course one will also have to change all the settings for the structure so it shows as a finished floor/ceiling and make it invisible so it does not show in plan views. On the missing attic wall, I am not sure they got it, I was able to create a new plan that generated the attic wall, but, my plan does not, their reply did not satisfy and or they did not look at it in depth. I replied again with my test plan to show that it does generate the attic wall. we'll see...
  3. This is a tough one! For SunnyD, take the plunge! read the literature that can be downloaded free. Draw a "test" project get everyone involved. (Keep an eye on this forum, lots of good resources here) I typically post bugs I find in the program. (Keep AutoCAD, comes in handy for details, importing pdf's, site work etc.). For Grkawaja, Stay with Softplan! Lots of new features, good for networks, cloud, etc. No need to re-learn much.
  4. And a shot of missing attic wall. If you look closely to the picture, the portion of the room without the ceiling mentioned above can be seen
  5. Tried and tested several options without success , zipped the plan and sent it to Support, we'll see what is the issue with it. A second issue occurred and it was also included in the support ticket. The main room was also a "no ceiling" plus "open below" (not sure if that had to do with it). Next to that room there's a laundry room with "ceiling" selected, but, a portion of that room projects into the main room by about a foot and a half. (Well that foot and a half) loses its ceiling as well , even though it is an enclosed room. I must add that the "open below" does not fall over the projection. Even after removing "no ceiling" and leaving "open below" that portion still loses its ceiling.
  6. Had a chance to try a concept roof similar to the one having issues, all attic walls generated properly, without having to check additional wall settings. Not sure why that other plan is having issues, but, will look into it when I get a chance.
  7. Just noticed that attic walls are not generating over one room with an offset, the wall generates up to the point where the offset wall starts, but, not where the room projects beyond and there's not a wall below. The catch here is the room has no ceiling. Catch #2, the roofs are "Curved" so the "gap" left is also curved, if I pull/drag the wall that generated, the bottom of it is not curved Both top and bottom should be curved.
  8. The answer is found in your original question. The way we work details is as follows: (It's a bit of work but does the trick). Create a back clipped section on a blank area of the plans (layer it so it is easy to turn on/off from your plan) paste your cad detail there, send that view to your detail page, Ha! Now move the call out to the desired position on the plan. (you may have to rename the original section(s) as chief wants to do the naming in order. (Note that the name and the callout label are two different things) if you have info on both, it will show on the callout. If your detail and the camera overlap, move the detail away, resize the view on layout.
  9. Dave, I'm still alive, after a long battle... Thanks. Did you notice that the APO does not change, unless you 1. Place an outlet on plan. 2. Save it to the library. 3. Select that outlet from the library. I had changed the "Default" outlet from the Defaults Settings and noticed the "Bug", Basically I changed "Duplex" to AFCI/TR saved as default. Then went to "AutoPlaceOutlets" APO and it placed the old "Duplex" not the newly selected Default. There was no way to do it within the Defaults DBX.
  10. Almost an all iMac office here! Only one evil PC laptop (pun intended). Version 19 is faster than 18 that is for sure.
  11. I am missing how to change the defaults in Auto Place Outlets or am I? I changed the default receptacle outlet(s), but, the APO does not update to use the new outlet, bugger... Thanks!
  12. This has been true since I started using Chief, back in V9
  13. The two options are valid here. The way you drew it, leaving a space between two walls, if enclosed, they become a room, leave it unspecified and adjust its ceiling heights to match the other rooms. Wall type definitions as "Solver" showed also works and may be easier to work with. (However you had not mentioned they were offset).
  14. The pdf's I'm using go crystal clear into another program, they lose no formatting, etc. As David noted, Chief seems to like the image format better, within the same plan, I have some image files that came in "acceptable" as .png format. I have attached the files that have issues in Chief, but, do not in the "other program". Using the exact same importing procedure. File, import, import PDF, then placing it on the layout, resizing to fit. (Same on both programs) Please note at the "preview window" before you place the file, the formatting it's already lost, one can tell right away just before placing the file onto Layout. 217-P010095769A-000-000-0000000-0000-1.pdf
  15. Hello all, I noticed that the .pdf importing into Layout sheets literally "destroys" the .pdf I tried importing the energy calculation files and, oh boy, the files changed font, formatting, etc. The second set of sheets I tried were some standards directly from the code book and sure enough, they came so badly blurry that are of no use. Anyone else having issues?
  16. Save the current plan you are working on as your new "Template" (delete all the views you don't need before saving). That keeps my templates up to date.
  17. Labels, I realized that copying a wall type would not work and was hoping to, push the issue that we need to be able to label the walls within wall type definitions dbx. ...and that someone would have another solution. Thanks for the response.
  18. Using X8 I created several wall types, some from scratch, some from copying an existing wall. I noticed the "Label" transferred from the "copied" wall to the new wall, however I missed how to "change" the label of the "copied" wall. (It is showing the original label) Say I created a 2x6 Ext Stucco wall, I labeled it STU6R19, copied that one and created a 2x4 version of it. (There was no option to re-label the wall) Note that I can re-label the wall once placed on the drawing, and re enter the information to create another wall that will show the proper label. (The setting to "re-label" the wall when you are within "Wall Type Definitions" was missing).
  19. I am looking for a similar option too, I have seen it in action on other platforms Select the object tool "Roofs" while selected hit ctrl+a to select all roofs at once. Same for walls, windows, doors, etc. select its objet tool "interior wall" hit ctrl+a, done.
  20. We ran into an issue activating two different licenses, here's the scoop: Issue: We use to separate licenses for our work. User A using license A User B needs to use license A User B deactivates license from user A User B activates license A on his station. User A needs to work on another project, but, user B is now using the license (A) that was activated on User's A station. User A opens Chief and gets the Product Activation Window. Enters License B to activate Chief Chief sends an error message saying the license is active in another computer. How do we Clear User A's station after being "deactivated" by User B? Product Activation shows "Current Key" as User A license Even after entering License B into User A. A license deactivation message appears.
  21. Hello, I am trying to purchase a license from another user, with the transfer and all from Chief. The main question is the SSA. Does the SSA have to be purchased now during the "Transfer" and it will last the full 12 months? Can the SSA be purchased later? Starting January instead? Is there a cost difference? or does it matter at all to wait or not?
  22. I use Google Drive for my consultants (I don't use archaic email systems). Job Folder>Consultants folders "one for each">Job specifications>support, etc. (Folder tree system). Inside the Job Folder I have created a Project Tracking List using "Sheets" (very simple, name, date, notes, completed). Main tab for me, then every consultant has a tab where they can communicate with me, between themselves, and vice versa. All communications stay in one place. tough to do, I know. For PC, since I am a plan checker myself, we have minimum corrections, I just color code a copy of the actual letter, then, I upload to the drive for them to address, I expect them to make a copy with their responses in it. That then gets copied again for records and it is sent back to the ahj.
  23. No issues here, updated since it came out. Using Chief version 18 All my work is done on iMac computers.
