  1. Since I have seen no responses I thought I'd at least give some advice. If you just need a home measured, Home Depot and Lowes provide this service in my area. They can just do a complete measurements for interior remodel and provide that data. Then you can run from there to draw it and get on to what you do best. Maybe that helps
  2. Glenn, This seems to not work now, and I found this thread, so lighting it back up. I tried Edit -> Edit Area -> Edit Area (All Floors) Verified that was checked Select the entire building (from Floor 1) Drag to move it to a different place. Drop. Floor 2 is still in the same place. I tried the same to select, copy, paste on another plan. Still it ONLY seems to copy the floor which the select and copy is done from, in this case Floor 1. Chief x14, Build 24.2.2.1 on macOS Intel I am totally positive that this worked just a few weeks ago before the last update.
  3. Eric, did YOU search? Because the only post has zero useful information. So I bought one hoping it would help with terrain. I have used it a few times and am still working out how to make it work well. I have done 3-4 spaces in a yard with elevation changes. It does slope functions inside the app. It calculates total Sq Ft (if you are on the correct button). It will export to DXF I have imported the data and I can't seem to make it do much of anything. Cant make a Terrain or convert to polyline. I attached 3 files of grass areas, which have anywhere from 4ft-8ft elevation change. They are at least to scale it seems. Anyone want to monkey with them, give it a try. I'd love to spring board into making it useful. 19809 Front Center.DXF 19809 Left Front .DXF 19809 Right Front .DXF
  4. Could you possibly explain how it works? I have CA-001 as baseboard and cannot seem to find in the material list. X12 Build 22.3.0
  5. I'd like to be able to use the %scale% variable on a layout to indicate the selected scale. The plan view has been sent to the layout, and then verified its 1/4". YET the variable will never display this. It will display 25/64 or xxx/128 or something. Why program a variable if it does not equal to what the scale actually is?
  6. Strange, that this must have changed for X12 and it is ANNOYING AF! I know in x11 I sorted by Room. It sorts them by Number, which is Automatic from the object from what I can tell(not idea how it chooses it). If you remove the Number Column, and put say ROOM in the first column, X11 I am sure sorted by First Column by default. If you selected Group Similar Objects, it overrides the First Column Sort. This appears to me to be a bug in X12, Honestly, schedules are something that CA struggles with. Last year at IBS 2018 (ok year before last), I pointed this out to 2 guys at the booth. The specific BUG in my case, was if you rotate a schedule, all TEXT rotates, but the elevation/image (as with cabinets) would not rotate. They fixed that in X11. It seems they just don't get how schedules are used in the real world. For Permitting, they want it grouped by room. For Electrical Vendor, they want it grouped by type. But no matter I am absolutely sure that it would group by Nubmer First, then if Numberl was removed it would group by Column A. Which is what one fo the how-to's here even documents. This is simply a bug.
  7. Yeah, none do, but for an electrical plan when you put outdoor lights, and link them together, the vendor obliviously knows its going to be low voltage. That is the case here. If CA creates a rope light tool, they ought to know that people will connect it, and not expect to take the time to build/use another tool/item to connect it. It's like telling an electrician "I want rope lighting under the cabinet" I don't have to tell them, "I want rope lighting with the correct resistors for the distance/number of LED's and a voltage converter box to rectify the voltage from line voltage to low voltage" If I was designing circuit boards (I did that in a past life) yeah, makes sense, but here no. Just like I don't create a symbol to say the supply line size for a sink, the standard acceptable size is used.
  8. Thanks to both of you, didn't think of that, as its an obvious bug to not be able to connect it. I didn't find that thread because its not on the first 2 pages of search returns and obvious in any way. Maybe if there was a way to actually take a thread and tag it with key words such as this, that would make the search more functional.
  9. I have tried everything but can't seem to figure out how to connect rope light to a switch. In X11 the rope light dropdown was added to simply draw rope lights. Before this I used a light tube and it would connect without an issue. Most that look at an electrical diagram will understand that it is switched, but I have at least 2 clients ask "why a 3 gang and only 2 connections" I searched far and wide and can't seem to find anything regarding "rope light" which is the name on the dropdown. Any ideas?
  10. Thanks Glenn and Mick. I think what I am going to do is save it as a cad object so I have it I can just drop in, then bump the size, and build the roof.
  11. Exactly, how did you get that? If you add 3 more walls, do the post actually align? Meaning does CA put the top beams on a single post?
  12. Holy wow, that is complicated, but I see how you are forcing it to work.
  13. It will be framed like the original, except post to the floor. Why would someone every build a studpack for a 6x6 post to sit on top of? It's an outdoor Kitchen, the post will be exposed above the counter tops. If the post were not exposed, you still wouldn't put a post on top of the studwall in this case. My point there, CA seems to not have a clue how to build that. The "Railing with Panel" works visualy, but: You can't open a wall detail (to show the framing) Elevation does not show the wall studs It seems I cant create it correctly, then display the build makeup of the wall correctly with a stud wall with it being a railing.
  14. I tried Railing Panel (no pony wall) and it does in fact render it correctly, but I don't see how I can force it to build a 2x4 stud wall as the "panel". Under Wall Type, Railing/Fence, I have deleted the Interior and Exterior Layers, and left the Main Layer (fir stud 16"... width of 3.5"). It just renders a solid panel.
  15. X10. I'd love to post a picture but I can't seem to make it build it "like you would in the real world". Meaning, you wouldn't set a 6x6 post on top of a 2x4 wall, you would run the post to the floor, and attach the wall to the post. I could easily "fake it" with a poly line solid (which I do for customer renders) but for a build document that you can measure the center of the post, and provide an elevation of the wall, "faking it" does not work. It is a Railing, based on 4" interior wall, with 6" posts on 200" center (to force them to the end of the wall), the pony wall is a 4" interior as well. I could screen capture all that, and just spam more image on the board, which seems to be the norm, but I don't see that will tell more than the above. Solver: I added a signature, any other useful information would be appreciated.
  16. I can't seem to figure out how to render this correctly. Simple 4 post patio cover, Wall is Post to Beam, with Pony Wall. The Post is rendered sitting on top of the Pony Wall, which is not the way it should or would be built. If I delete the Pony wall, the Post goes to the floor. How do you make it render/build it like it would be built, where the post carries the load, and the wall is built off the post? Not with the post on top of the pony wall? Ideas?
  17. I'm running a MBP, Mid 2012, 2.7ghz, i7 Unicorn. It has the Dual Video, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024MB Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536MB What I have seen is it renders pretty well on any sqft up to 5000 that I have done. When it does get a little laggy, I usually turn off stuff that can't be seen, such as all the wall structures, innards, or I don't build the wall framing, and I have even made walls that are just drywall, no structure to make it render fast. Just my hack to get over that 1GB video ream.
  18. I have the same issue. I have a window that is in the stairwell wall. If I add the stairs, the window is as expected (clear). If I "Auto Stairwell", the window becomes solid (with the molding) still on the wall. If I follow the directions to manually create the well (https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00757/creating-a-stairwell.html), Add the rails, doorway, then select the room, and change type to "open to below". The window is filled with wall again. I have done this numerous times and can't seem to get it to work. Pasting a window in its place doesn't work. If the window is moved out of the stairwell area, the window becomes clear again. I'd love to upload the file, but it is 40mb and the forum only allows a total of 25mb.
