Your symbol should just be a single "panel".

I'm guessing you have something going on with your video card then. Has it always had this issue, or just started?

I know it's been around for a long time, but is there any way to turn off the "walls" around the space planning rooms to have it just be a plain box...like it used to be back in the day?

Try Edit > Default Settings > 3D View Defaults > Rendering Techniques. Then click on Physically Based (Ray Trace) on the left and change your Maximum Samples to something like 300. See if that completes the view for you. Once you change that default setting, you'll need to pull a new camera view for it to take effect.

I hearted your post @joey_martin. I've always appreciated your straightforward approach, so thank you! I am very curious...with the exception of Rene, has anyone deployed PM Method effectively for use with multiple seats?

I think this will be a very interesting thread, so thank you for starting it. We operate similar to you, but the difference is, is that we have about 25 users of Chief that operate in varying capacities. But it is deeply engrained in our day-to-day operations...from Sales to Design to Project Management. When the Project Management module first was released, we were encouraged that it would not work well for us and our system, so we've mostly stayed away from it. But there appear to be so many cool features that we cannot utilize because of this. Right now our process is similar to yours. We utilize OneDrive for all our file storage, and we have onsite servers that are simply for archived records. Our plans are saved in job folders, along with all pertinent sales and PM information. The only difference is that we work backwards through the alphabet on our plan names. So the initial draft is Z.plan, and any significant revision is a new letter. If we start getting close to the end, we start utilizing double letters so that we don't lose the sorting. This signals to the rest of the team that the top plan is the most current plan...no matter what. No questions. I would love to see Chief implement something that would allow "larger" firms to work together and collaborate easier. But it needs to be done right...and executed well. That's a lot of words I typed...and probably most of it was "meh...", but just know that you aren't alone in wanting to improve the process.

Do I have a setting mixed up? When I send elevations to layout, and it's something with 3D cladding on it, the wall patterns are handled through the Patterns, 3D Views layer settings. The roof cladding, though, is handled through Roof Planes layer. Is there a way to change this? I want my patterns to be a lighter, thinner weight, and it appears that the walls are working correctly, but the roof is not. Has anyone worked around this? On a side note, I love the look of 3D cladding in 3D view, but the patterns are garbage. Way too busy...I wish there was a way to clean this up.

I just used solids. Pull an elevation and draw a solid at the correct height and pitch. Then pull another cross section running perpendicular to your solid and edit the "end" to be angled as well. Solids are pretty intuitive with these latest versions of Chief. They used to be a serious life-suck... I attached some pictures.

This is banging it out really quick with solids.

If you're only drawing that space, and not the entire house structure, I would cheat it with ceiling planes or solids. If you know either: A. Sidewall Height and Pitch -or- B. Sidewall Height and width of flat ceiling You could make it work pretty easily with what you have drawn.

We had the same issue. One of our users has Windows Default of Dark Theme, but he wanted his Chief in Light theme. We switched it to be light theme, and it was blown out like you're showing. We just restarted his program, and it fixed it. I would say that, or a reboot of the computer entirely.

If you want to show bends in it (i.e. it comes out a wall and turns and runs up the side), you could use a molding polyline as well.

It's because your roof planes come to a point. I know that makes sense, as that's how it would be, but I've always found that I have to make there be a little bit of eave for the boxed eaves to work properly. One of the many mysteries of Chief... I attached an image, and outlined in green how it should look.

Weird...it's not an overly complicated shape. You think something is wrong with the symbol, and that's causing the slow down?

I'm not going to lie...I actually didn't know that there was a "Halfwall" tool I'm still curious about this macro...but this might be what we do. Because if I just use plain text and not the macro then there is no slow down.

Here's a video of it... You can see when the layer is off, it's smooth. When it's on, it's jerky. Again, not much...but it's actually enough of a lag that you misclick things a lot. Railing Macro Video.mp4

If I turn the label layer off, the slow down goes away. When I turn the layer on, the slow down occurs. And the slow down is mostly if I go to draw new walls, or other items. I can zoom and pan around the plan fine, but trying to draw anything slows down. @Renerabbitt, we did talk about that, but they want to try the label first. What's wrong with the 4095 box newel?

So I'm looking into a macro for my railings that if it's a railing, the macro will populate "Railing", and if it's a halfwall the label will populate "Halfwall". I think I got it so that it will work right, and I created a new "Wall, Labels, Railing" layer so that just my interior railings can have a label and not have Wall, Labels on for everything. My problem is...as soon as I turn on this layer the entire plan slows WAAAAAAY down. We're talking smooth as butter to herky-jerky. I think I have the macro optimized but not 100%. Either way, it's 1-2 railings in an entire plan. Seems like a real bummer to not be able to utilize this kind of automation. I've posted the plan, so if someone wants to poke around, feel free. One final thought...as I'm looking at this a little closer...you might have to change your marker style to "Level Line" before you make that change. Then after your change, if you put it back to "Point Marker" you should be good. I think when it's already set on "Point Marker" the selection I indicated above is all greyed out.
