This is very good. The perspective is viewed as from a car driving by.
Lavina, when viewed from the driveway or lawn, set the camera at about 5' from grade - currently you are standing about 8'ish high. More sky, less ground. Your window reflections are looking really good! As Jim said, move the sun around to help cast more shadow. This is not always the case depending on the look you are after, but shadows can help give more life to a more simple structure. Download PixPlant and start to create your own materials. Better materials as Michael mentioned.

Hi Steve
What was the site you mentioned in one of your posts where I can download free HDRI scenery and people. I did download just about all your backdrops- water splashes- shadow trees-etc. but mid September I had a computer virus which knocked out my CA program and all the downloads I had taken from you.. BTW Thanks

There may be some 3D people in Chief -- not exactly sure. I am no render pro so I'll defer to the forum experts. But, one trick is to add people later to the rendering as simple 2D images or "decals" using Photoshop or Gimp. An old coworker of mine used this technique a lot -- he was really great at 3D renders -- and I thought it was really effective and convincing. Another advantage is it is fast. Here's an example (done in Revit) that shows the technique:
Thanks Jim!

Another thought -- to make the building look "lived in", I'd suggest adding people, car(s), outdoor furniture, etc.

thanks Jim good idea - where to find people !!

I thank you all for your comments - this forum is soo good. This client sent me their plans, also the materials and colors they wanted for the exterior as well as the window style... I'm liking the idea of people, cars etc,,, CA only has silhouettes.. where can I get people ...
I am going to follow all of your suggestions
Thanks a lot -- 60% of my renderings are exterior so I'm really wanting to get it as good as I can
is there a particular version of PIXPLANT I should download

Here is a simple way to create water and reflection for your PBR renderings. This is the first time I have messed with water and rendering within Chief. I'm pretty impressed!

I really like your renders.. thanks

Hi
I've attached a screen shot of an exterior rendering I did for a client. Can someone tell me if this is good and how I can improve on my rendering techniques. Guessing its a mix of lighting and adjustments plus I notice the various backdrops make a huge difference in the overall color effect .. Am I on the right track??
all advice is welcome
Many thanks Levina

Are you wanting a textured clapboard siding material? Surface as seen with James Hardie "Cedarmill" or LP Smartside?
If so you'll need a seamless image of lapping boards.
Show us how your solution looks.
ok will do thanks!

thank you David.. it worked. I knew I had done it before but I couldn't figure it out..
make one ,, that' s interesting ae you saying we can make siding profile??

You need an image of several pieces of siding to use as a custom material, not just one piece to get the effect you want or make one.

I'm not gonna open your plan, but here is mine. I believe it meets the specs, pitch wise and roof-plane-arrangement-wise, as what the architect drew.
THANK YOU!!!!!

this is not for practice..I am not an architect I am a designer,, I do not build houses but can do floor plans and design simple houses. Mostly I create 3D models and rendering service from clients house plans and assist them with adding various materials and colors to the exteriors and interiors so they can see the concept idea before they order products. Been doing this for many years but every now and then a roof comes along that I just cant get it, maybe its a blind spot or my brain - not sure - some of you are probably laughing at this and I don't blame you ha ha
Anyway I've loaded the plan with my errors left in so you can see I tried.. If some one can assist that's great I am willing to pay --
Thanks in advance for this forum and its help

Post the Chief plan. Looks like the plans are done, job al ready for permit and build. Are you copying this for practice?
This is not practice. Clients send me their house plans so I can build it and show them the various siding and roofing options colors materials etc with so many options for people its sometimes hard to make a decision without seeing it on their your home then they can order the siding etc knowing how its going to look .
I have a clot of client that do this. the architect does the design and I create the look.
its just that this roof has me stumped

Hi
I'm attaching a roof plan with the PDF elevations. I have built the home ok no problem - windows doors etc. but not sure how to read this roof schematic .. I have started it (Gables are in place - the rest is a mess - wondering if I should start again and manually build the gable roofs first and then join to hips . I had the program build the roof and tried to redefine buy got pretty messy
any advice is welcome
again thanks in advance

I think all you need to do is pick a profile for your shadow board and then set the width and height. If you do this in the "build roof" dialog, then it will be set for all new roof planes (but not existing ones unless you have auto rebuild turned on). Also, it may be hard to see them if you have gutters turned on and the shadow board is behind them.
thank you!

Yes I think thats the way to go thanks

Hi
How can I easily( joking!!!!) create various terrain areas,, such as what is attached. I've tried but the stalagmites go off the grade. I've done walkout basements before but for some reason this one seems to allude me. is it just me trying too many times with the same results
any suggestions welcome

Hi Levina,
By the time you read this you probably have figured some things out. Any libraries I offer can be downloaded and dragged into your CA to load them into your library. Then just rename them to what you want.
Highly recommend that as you build up your library that you back them up. Typically one by one to a folder so you can always put it back if something goes wrong. As you make changes to the libraries, back them up again. Typically you cannot back up the whole User Library, so back them up as individual folders with their respective subfolders.
Your system seems fine for power to do nice renderings. Laptops are often slower than desktops.
I spent a lot of time fine tuning my camera, so make sure to download my template and copy the exterior camera to your template. Then fine tune the camera if you need for your graphics card and update your template with it so you are always fine tuning your template with what works and looks the best.
Now that we are in X16, I am focusing more on using the HDRi backdrops. But as you can see above, my image backgrounds work and look great too. You will get a more realistic rendering with HDRi backdrops. But it depends on what you are looking for.
I do not use the 2D trees for shadows. The 3D trees just make a more realistic shadow.
Follow my steps in the beginning of this thread for changing some settings, like on Glass. Also on concrete, I often change the properties so I get a little reflection. Also mess with your grass. I have grass in my template that matches the backgrounds, but I have since made my grass 2 and 4 for height because I use terrain features to cut out the grass.
Position the placement of the house first as it represent the house the best. Then mess with the sun for the best looking shadows. Then place your trees to make sure they are covering the yard and onto the house a bit. I typically do not show the trees in the image, only the shadows. When CA makes some realistic looking trees I will start to put them into the foreground.
Thank you,
Steve
thank you soo much !.. Ive printed all your info
