You probably have "Automatically regenerate deck framing" unchecked in the Deck room dialog. Check the box and the decking will follow the railing.... and also regenerate all of the deck framing.

    Thank you Chris.  all fixed

  2. When I changed my deck sizing .  the rails and steps moved but the decking itself stayed in place.  any suggestions?

    Thanks

Just to be clear - yes you can still use X16 after installing and using X17, but any X16 files opened, and saved in X17 cannot then be opened again in X16.

    ok thanks

    Hello,

To clarify what @SHCanada2mentions, there was a problem during X17 Beta where catalogs could not be downloaded from the Library Browser. As far as I'm aware, this has been fixed for the majority of users, after they have signed out and back in again.

If you're already signed in, and then browse catalogs from the Library Browser, the ones shown should be available for you to download.

ok.. is x 17 available only for Beta at the moment?

  5. 7 hours ago, SHCanada2 said:

    yes,

but if you want to place a new object from a catalogue not yet available in X17 you cannot...or at least that is my experience. I search for something in the library, it comes pack with something, then I go to download the catalogue...and it says the catalog is unavailable

    ok thanks . that

     is helpful to know

This is how I work when a new version is released:

    • Download the new version (X17) and work on test projects in the new version to get used to it.  Once I'm comfortable, I will start new client projects in the new version.
    • Keep the previous version (X16) on my computer and finish up any ongoing projects.  Just easier and safer to finish up ongoing projects in the version they were started in.
    • Both X17 and X16 can live on your computer and you can work in either version.  Just need to pay attention to which version you have open.

    Good luck!  :)

got it Thanks so much !

This does not relate to your question but these new features shown in this video I think would be very useful to the type of work you do

thanks  I just watched it!! perfect

Not all catalogues are available on x17

Gee that's strange.. so if i go to x17 can i still revise a plan that was done  x16? by  reopening  x16 even though I have 17?

  9. HI

If I upgrade  to X17 and need to make changes to a plan  done in x16 .. Will I run into any issues that you know of??

    Thanks in advance

Start with lowering your front to back roof planes (Green lines) to be less than your left/right plane slopes (red dots)

    image.thumb.png.3fde69843cb616c2ba06f6d6aa817037.png

It would be easier if you imported the PDF, rotate it 180 degrees and place it under your drawing, scaling it to match your real world dimensions.  Below I placed the rotated PDF over your 3D roof view.  To make it easier to see i painted the lines red.  The blue roof pitch is different from the other two, lower.  I'd draw that manually after you get everything else to line up.

I didn't realize I hadn't attached the  roofs in the same direction.  Thanks for this I will attempt your suggestions

    Cheers

  11. Hi

I'm building this house from the clients PDF plans for rendering ..I built the auto roof  with gables where indicated on the plan

Is my roof plan  close  to the roof schematic sent to me by the client

: should I build the roof planes and then join or try to adjust  based on auto roof rebuild

Which is the best way  to get the roof corrected to meet the PDF schematic..

    Thanks

z moving...one of the first great tidbits I learned from @solver before he left the forum

Yes I've used transform replicate tool  many times especially for roof planes . Just didn't know the  abbreviation  but not the Z moving.. That's why I love this  forum.. I learn so much  from more experienced users

    Thanks a heap

If you have the floor plans and built the model in CA, normally I will use the TNR to move the roof in the Z direction to match existing elevations, as normally plans do not have heel height.

Or if possible, rebuild the roof with different heel heights until they match, but heel height is global for the plan, so if you have different heel heights, TNR will work instead

,, don't mean to sound like a %&%&% but define TNR  and Z direction????

import the pdf into a CAD detail, (or on your plan) and scale the drawing using a known number on the pdf, or assume a floor level height 8' or 9' as the client tells you, and then scale using that. then use the CA measure tool to measure the height

I do mostly reconstructions, the above works quite well for me

or generate your own elevation and superimpose the PDF on top of it.

I have the roof completed now thanks.  had already imported the floor plan and built to scale - was having difficulty with the roof - usually when a client sends me the house plans it includes the roof planes and overhead  view

Thanks for getting back to me

    Cheers ( from another  canuk

  15. Hi

I'm rendering a house plan  for a client with sloped roofs. very low pitches 1.5 and 3.5

Attached is  the PDF showing the roof schematic as well as the roof elevations, (looks like center area   may be a gable as opposed to sloped .)

3D Roof.pdf I am assuming I would generate this style of roof as in the help videos by  starting with a gable and go from there.  However I'm not sure of the actual height as there are no pole elevations.

Can someone tell me how I can determine the height so it looks correct in the rendering .  I have the house built sans the roof  - just looking for some direction before I start

    Cheers

you would have to have a polyline distribution path with objects loaded into it and you would have to have the distribution path selected for it to show up in your edit menu

I see the batten in the polyline distribution path -  does this look correct?

congrats on getting that done. it's a ton of work when comparing to the material region tool FYI. Hope this helps someone.

I'm following your video and got it  as far as EXPLODE .polyline distribution  path. cant find explode in edit in 16

The first image is a 3D perspective in Chief Architect. The second is a rendering in Lumion.

I figured as much - didn't think it was rendered in CA.  is Lumion or twin motion worth the investment?

I converted a wall cabinet into a batten. I created a wall type where the sheathing is a 1/4" sheet that represents a fibercement sheet product. The batten then snaps to the wall, and I adjust the height and positioning in an elevation view. I use the multiple copy tool to distribute battens across the wall, adjusting for windows and doors as needed. This results in battens with proper shadows in renderings, and I can estimate the material used for the battens as well. I have 2 example images below to illustrate it.

WOW!! DID YOU USE ONLY CA FOR RENDERING

  20. Hi

I've designed a bathroom and walk in closet in imperial plan .  Client wants imperial and metric - I tried editing the plan and move to the metric  - knew it would not work.. Any suggestions.. I've never worked in metric

I tend to use the material region tool. I create a batten and then muti-copy as needed all over the plan. Battens.thumb.jpg.fc3a0f2c5c6e269c6c4e68786f9884f5.jpg

I did  try it  looks amazing!  thanks

I use another wall framing Layer (extreme exterior Layer) with 2.5" width x 3/4" thickness.  It will frame with a bottom plate \ double top plate, as well as headers an sill plates.  It actually creates very manageable edits - but works pretty well.

I've also used Wall Material Regions but there are edits needed with that method as well.

    will try for sure! thanks

  23. Hi

Most of my renderings are exterior . horizontal siding has different profiles that show well in PBR.. however Board and batten does not have any depth  so is  unrealistic .  I was watching a You Tube video that Rene Rabbitt put up but don't know what materials he used or how the saved it

So what is the best method to having a more realistic look for Board and Batten.. polylines? .. have to do a lot of cutting for windows and doors - takes time that I cant bill for

    Any suggestions are welcome
