I see layer sets for other things like floor framing, roof framing ect.. .but nothing for foundation. What layer set would you typically use to create a foundation plan.

    Thanks!

Go into your layer sets I (make a ) copy of the set with the fewest layers to turn off, rename it foundation set, turn off any thing left you don’t need, and you’re ready to go.

  2. The client wants all rooms on the left side of the main entrance to have 12' tall walls (all rooms that have flat ceilings to have ceiling height 10') except of course vaulted at the living area, and tray / coffered in the great room / master bed. On everything to the Right of the main entrance 10'walls and approx. 10' (rough CH). See the sketch he made of what the Front elevation will look like. So I set the default ceiling height at 12' (doing a lowered ceiling in those areas at 120"). I opened each of the rooms on the Right side of the Entrance and set their individual ceiling heights to 120" (+/-) for now. About to start the 2nd floor and eventually the roof plan but not sure if I'm about to have a technology CAX11 night mare.  Any recommendations / Suggestions?

Not sure If this is where I post this. I'm looking for a 60x42 oval garden tub to place in a bathroom rendering. Not a free-standing oval. There is not one in core, bonus or manufacturing cats.

It needs to be a one-piece unit (square nothing fancy) with an oval tub. 3d warehouse/sketchup does not have one either. Does anyone have one to share or know where I can find one FREE? Any leads would be great! Thanks...

Did you look in the Kohler catalogue? You can open the DBX and change the size...……...you can build a low wall (using the railing wall tool) place a custom counter top, place the tub in it.  You can probably use cabinets (modified of course) to your spec / sized and place it. Hope this helps.

I used the Object Eyedropper to transfer ROOM settings.

Don't understand why when I copied/reflected the existing barrel, it was in a different location, but duplicating the room settings fixed it.

Are you doing this in that central area?

Eric, it didn't work for me either, but I got it.  The center is open to the roof over the second floor. The roof over this area will be higher than the adjoining roofs and he wants a (I call it 2 way or 2 directional ) vaulted ceiling to form a "pyramid" type vault.  I'm dreading this one too! If he's through making changes today some time I'll start the second floor (then the real fun begins). He just sent me a text and decided he wants fewer lites in all the windows (which I had modelled and mulled as units) based on the Manf. cut sheets he provided, now I've got to explode them and change the lites. I mulled them originally so I could copy and paste them more easily.

Eric, thanks for the added help!!! I don't know how much time to spend doing this stuff.....but I sure do appreciate every second of it!!!!!!!!!!

Eric, I couldn't get the Object Eyedropper to work for me on the barreI  vault, but I did pull a wall section through the good BV, copied, and pasted it in the other two areas I needed the BV in, adjusted them manually and they're good.

Also, fixed the wall intersection (Living room fire place wall) by using the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool.  Same thing on fixing the Safe room wall (one more time) hopefully it will stay this way?

While taking a closer look at that corner I noticed my wall wasn't framing to the "edge of slab" as I had originally set, so I adjusted that also.  I'll work on the brick ledge and stair later.

As always thanks for the GREAT help!

The walls around the safe room seem misaligned.

I know......I fix it every time I open the plan to work on it, and it is fine when I close it until next time I open it, then it's right back like this.

I even pulled the wall all the way back to the corner and drag it back and it will look just fine until I open it again. I tried doing the wall with two walls (one inside like furring and it was worse than this).

Brick ledge?  I haven't built the foundation. I plan on having a brick ledge but really hadn't worked on that.

Steep stairs. Another work in progress, I hadn't adjusted the stairs yet, since I hadn't built the second floor.....is that a NO NO?

? Not sure where this is, I had something similar on the fire place I added in the exterior logia area, but found the issue and thought I had fixed it? I'll take another look at the Living room FP.

Eric..... no one will believe me but I can get it lined up next time I open the plan it’s tight back like that. I even pulled the wall back re connected it was fine close open its right back like that, deleted the wall redrew lose / open the program right back like that.  I bet the eye dropper trick won’t work for me,,,,,, I’ll try it when I’m back at work tomorrow. Meanwhile thank you.

  8. I managed to get one Barrel vault modeled, but attempting the same on the other side of the room (mirror image) is not working.  I even tried copy reflect about that didn't work for ME either.  It might work for you, if it does please explain what made the difference.

I Checked the structure, on that side and it is the same as the side I was able to model.  I even copied the settings of the first (successful vault and pasted them in) unless something changed and I didn't catch it???

The Video I watched showed the same steps I followed and that worked fine on the first one, so why won't it work on the other? The space is the same identical area, only difference is coming into the barrel from the living room side has two (cased openings) the other side coming from the great room has a pair of doors, then into the barrel vault going out into the 2-way cathedral vault (which will be complete when I finally add the second floor above and make that space open below). I was waiting on modeling the second floor since the Owner has made a gzillion floor plan changes just on the first floor. He explained to day (after a dozen emails and texts) that he is "Design OCD"!!!!

    Thanks for any direction given.

Try using the "All ON" Layer Set.

Joe, that did it again.  BUT YOU'VE GOT TO BELIEVE ME...………...I did the ALL on layer set, again, and again, didn't do anything different this time, but it was there. :blink::wacko:

Thank you again. Thanks to all of you who helped change my diaper!

no, no, no - do not copy and paste in the plan.  Send to Layout is OK but if you copy and paste in the plan then you will have 2 identical schedules and 2 labels.

No worries Joe...……...if I wanted to copy and paste the dumb thing I can't find it.  I THINK I did exactly what J Johnson said to do, open the schedule from CAD detail management and made sure the schedules layer is turned on...………..AM I LOSING MY MIND!!!! (I'm about to lose my grip):(:blink:

  11. 6 minutes ago, JJohnson said:

    Bob, I could find it by;

    Clicking On;

    CAD > CAD Detail Management

    Select and Open 'Window Schedule'

Then make sure Schedules is checked in Layer Display Options,  and,

The Schedule shows in the CAD Detail

    Copy and paste into plan

J - I am seriously trying...………..I did a complete back up save plan textures etc. Closed the plan opened the plan and reposting here again.  Now believe it or not, I THINK I did exactly as you suggested, same results. I cannot find the notorious - infamous - driving me out of my mind crazy - Window Schedule. SO WHAT IN THE CA WORLD AM I STILL DOING WRONG?!?!?!?!?  It isn't there IF I DID WANT TO COPY AND PASTE.

Bob It is on the Schedules layer of your Window Schedule Cad Detail.  The layer is currently off in the plan you attached.

Chop, I know you're not pulling my leg...……...Honest to CA...…..I cannot for the life of me find what you found! I'm in my schedule layer now, even have SCHEDULES, TEXT layer turned on, Schedules layer is also on...….but I still don't see a schedule on the schedule layer set??????

    1 hour ago, Ridge_Runner said:

If that plan was brought forward, or even from a template, make sure you don't have a schedule hiding somewhere in a CAD Detail

Thanks Mike, but I already checked cad details.  The only one that even had the Title Window schedule has no schedule on it.

  14. On the current plan I'm working on, I don't know how it happens. I hadn't placed a window schedule, yet.  I have a layer I named schedule layer and I use this layer to place all my various schedules.  I opened that layer, there are no schedules anywhere on that layer.  I zoomed out and in none to be seen anywhere.

I turned on my window labels. All I now have are single window labels on each window, no double labels!!!!

I still hadn't placed a window schedule.  After making sure I had all the windows placed and with no planned changes, I went to my schedule layer.  My window labels are turned on, OK?   Now I go to schedules tool, select the window schedule and place it on the schedule layer set.  The minute it appears I get double window labels (I know, that means the schedule is somewhere else correct?)………...give me a break!!!!   I hadn't placed another schedule anywhere;  HONESTLY!

So I opened an all layers on set, there doesn't appear to be a schedule anywhere! I delete the new window schedule and the window labels go back to a single label per window.  I go to the different plan layers I see no schedule ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!   I go back to my schedule layer set, reinsert the window schedule, and the minute it appears again, double window layers also appear. SO WHAT IN THE NAME OF Chief Architect am I doing incorrectly??????? I really get tired of asking for help on stuff like this, but I must be COMPUTER BLIND to the answer, after following the knowledge base, searching the all on layer set......KNOWING FOR A FACT that I only placed the schedule one time on one layer, am I looking to hard? Missing the obvious????  Plan file attached so some one can make me look silly.

  15. Eric did a great video showing me how to make the doors arched top. I haven’t had opportunity yet to try it. The home owner isn’t concerned about it (at this time) he just wants me to get the plans done so he can start building by end October first of November. He and his fiancé are saying I do; in April he wants the house ready to move into then.

Nice work Stephen.   Intriguing observation but it seems that it is not the number of layers or the thickness but the outermost layer that Bob used does not have a texture source and it's General Material setting is 35% transparent, therefore appears almost transparent in standard view.  It is the outermost layer that wraps so this is very important.  If there is a bug here it would be that not all the layers are wrapping but that may be done by Chief behind the scene to reduce surface counts of the overall model.

The question would be for Bob as to why this was done rather than blending the brick texture ?

It was done this way because the existing house has a white brick with an added wash/parge of white  mortar;  the joints are barely visible through the mortar wash. Doing the same thing on the addition. What would you suggest I do.

Thanks for sharing a copy of your plan. I downloaded it and opened, created several camera views and overviews with NO error messages. The plan file navigated normally, no slows. Since you did not add terrain, I have no opinion on the location of the "Safe Room". Commonly, safe rooms are interior rooms that protect one's family from intruders and or the weather, being an interior room adds additional layers of protection for loved ones.

    DJP

True, but I didn't choose the location.....the Owner did. He's very picky about the front elevation of the home continuing the aesthetic of the (his Mom and Dad's Home) existing home, even to making sure the living room fire place and window wall is spaced from the existing home so that from the road you have a "rhythm" continuing from the elevation of the existing home out to the garage of the new addition (as viewed from the main highway:)). How can you argue with that?

    Thanks for your input David.

As a general rule, SEH error messages are very bad things and you should never ignore them.

Using the Send Report button can help us to diagnose these problems but it is not nearly as helpful as reporting this problem directly to technical support. Sending us the plan files along with instructions for how to reproduce the problem can really make a huge difference in giving us the ability to find and fix the problem.

I went ahead and downloaded your posted plan and it does not give me any error messages.  There can be a lot of reasons for this but I will give you some of the most common ones.

First, if you have not done this already, you need to get and install the latest update.  You should be using version 21.3.11.  If you are still using an older version, then you do not have all of the fixes that we have put into the program to prevent these kinds of problems.

Next, if you are frequently experiencing SEH error messages in multiple plans, and mostly when creating camera views, then the most likely cause of the problems is your video card.  You should try updating your video card drivers to see if this improves.  It is also be possible that you are having other system problems but these are less likely and harder to diagnose.  If you have not rebooted your computer since experiencing these problems, then you probably should.

For more information about SEH error messages, you might want to read this article:

    https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00802/troubleshooting-exception-and-assertion-error-messages.html

And lastly, if all else fails, you should contact our technical support team for more help.

Dermot, when the update first came out a few folks reported issues they started having , that’s the reason I have waited to update. I don’t suppose you’ve seen any new posts regarding the latest update?

  19. 55 minutes ago, Chopsaw said:

Also still running version 21.2.0 for the time being and no errors with the plan or 3D.  Also noticed the irregular wall intersections in your screen shots are not showing.  likely need to look at your setup if it happens tomorrow again.

Chop, I think Rene had posted the first time about issues he had since downloading the update. The reason I hadn’t updated yet. I’ll wait at least until I work on this plan a little more to see if I have any new SEH error messages.
