We have been lodging digitally for several years now, all in PDF format.

We supply plans, specifications, calculations and other documentation in separate files.

If they require them in 1 file it will be huge, but can all be put together with PDF editing software. I use Foxit Phantom.

chief imports Acad 2d with variable results.

to get renderings you would have to trace over the Acad imports and basically redo the whole thing.

Adjust the baseline height of the 2 gable roof planes, the ceiling will be unaffected.

You may have make the walls "balloon through ceiling" in the walls dialog box.

never noticed those color choices, suppose I have been happy with oob.

use window levels to find out more use F1 key.

expirement with polyline solids drawn in elevation for the floor and end walls from the side then do the side walls and use boolen tools.

mine is exactly the sane as yours a read square with a blue circle inside, The only place to change the colours is in preferences/appearance/ colors but as you have obviously found out this does not control it. Therefore I believe it is hard coded.

It is normal to measure to the framing. however look at your framing defaults and change from dimension layer to surfaces.

Have to laugh at the term international codes.

There appears to be quite a few defaults that have changed or do not migrate. I went from X10 to X12 and have had to go through all my defaults and make adjustments.

Never used the grid function that I can remember in 20 years of using CA.

They are just more lines to contend with

I cant reproduce on my system, the main screen is locked, but the pop up works and just needs an input. This is normal behaviour.

I believe you can control the video card usage by program, cant remember how as I rarely use a laptop.

Also confirm chief version as v12 may not run on win10 properly where as x12 (v22) will.

You can now click on a door and specify wether it is int or ext for the schedule, think in door properties.

As a guess check your baseline height on that top truss if you want it similar to garage one.

That dialog usually shows up if the file does not exist or has changed location. I don't use file locking but if there are two of you it is probably a good idea to use it.

shut down and restart would be my first option

are your door layers turned on in elevation??

I had changed it to 3 days but have never seen anything telling me there is an update unless it is a new version.

checking manually is fine but people are too busy to think about doing such things.

Thanks guys it appears to be fixed in the latest update. wish CA would make it obvious when there are updates available.

just downloaded that latest one, cant see where it was advertised, just about to see if it was fixed.

Just linking up a new layout  to my plan file, but when I go tools/ layout/ referenced plan files. which should link all layouts referencing a plan file ie floor / elevations /sections sub floor/ roof etc. It will not hold the selection. I start with each layout file linked to a blank plan file then when I open a new layout from the template file I just have to relink the plan file to have most of my pages populated. in the final release of X12 this is not happening, I have to relink each layout box.

Anybody else found this?? I did not see the problem in beta 1.

for a start CA is primarily aimed at stand alone timber framed residential projects.

However I have done many light commercial projects over the years, I find they tend to require work arounds to achieve what I wanted.

If you were not having to do multistory structural ( just show a 'box' )and then 3D fit-outs it would be great .

There a quite a few examples on this forum by others of shopping malls etc, mostly by experienced users.

I would start by trying to reproduce a relatively simple project you have already done. when you get stuck the F1 key will give you information on the operation in hand. or you can search by key word.

a search of the forum is the next step then a question on the forum then a call to CA helpdesk they are usually very good.

I model the as built then do a save as and start working on the alteration.
