  1. Does it do rich text? It might be easier to sort than the macro method as I can see my number of notes being pretty long (as they were previously). Wendy's use of a warehouse plan also has its merits. If I started with this and then Chief did develop a sorting method for its macros I could copy/paste them into that later. So many options and I don't want to be typing these notes in more than once. Copy and paste will be my friend for the foreseeable future.
  2. This looks almost perfect Perry. How do you keep them organized so you can find the ones you want? Richard. That program looks much like the VW note database but I would just like to keep everything in one program.
  3. I will read through all this tonight but thought I should clarify. By Architectural Notes, I mean the plan specific notes I place on cross-sections, etc. that explain the structure or other features of the plan. They are sometimes quite long, as in a floor structure note or frost wall explanation. All of them are plan specific but can be reused or adjusted for future drawings. Depending on the design and location, these can vary considerably. Right now I have a block of notes that I bring in from the library, explode and then place where required. I then delete the extra ones not required in that view. It works but is time consuming but I guess I could copy, paste and make an assortment of blocks or do a library plan that I could copy and paste from. Just not sure what to do in the long term to make things go easier. My contractor like my plan style and I don't want to alter the appearance by using callouts and lists, which they don't like. I do have all of my general notes and boiler plate notes already on my template layouts. They are fine. Johnny may want something entirely different......
  4. Johnny, I too am still having a problem with architectural notes. I have had at least 6 different suggestions but, to be honest, after trying a few, I am still in the dark as to a simple way. Plans are getting done but the notes are taking too long. VWs note database now seems like a wonderful item that I miss daily. I currently have them on their own layer and am trying to work them into the proper layer sets. I haven't found any info on how Chief handles these for future plans. I do understand I can use the SAM method but I prefer not having notes for every style of building and having to pick and choose from a huge array. Having a huge library file also seems time consuming. Maybe a new thread required???
  5. Larry's method now makes sense. Like Perry, the use of "Anno" to start the layer set was confusing to me.
  6. Thank you. I will try this with one of the early stage designs first and see how it goes. I use a different font on my drawings so I will do that first in my template and then do the export/import. I was going to look up what to do about the layer sets but this also answers that question. Many thanks once again Wendy et al. The amount of knowledge I have gathered in the last 2 weeks is rather staggering but oh so wonderful. I'm sure many have benefited in the same way as me.
  7. Thanks for all the help. I will scour through these different sets and then add and adjust in my templates. I totally forgot about importing. My poor old brain can only handle so much and then it freezes, just like my computer. Importing and adjusting will definitely be faster than starting from scratch as Wendy did to teach us. I really appreciate all the quick responses. Now if I can only get my clients to answer this fast....
  8. With my new wealth of knowledge on annosets and layers I am extremely frustrated with my designs that are currently on the go. They are using some custom layers and annosets but I am now revising my templates to use more that are based on ideas from Wendy's videos. Is there any way, short of adding everything into their plans and layouts, that i can bring these up to date? 2 of them are just at the initial design stage but the others are ready for Con. Docs. Any suggestions are welcome :-) Or, should I just muddle along and start anything new in these templates???
  9. Or a material region and then removed it.....
  10. My oh my. So much to learn and such little time. My coffee and lunch times are reserved for the next while. Thank you Wendy.
  11. Once Scott meets me reality will hit and I will become Country again. Quebec is a couple provinces away and I originated from the other side of the country even though French was a required class in school. To be honest it is a better "name" than others I have heard or seen.
  12. It would be nice if all of this was a feature as an object CAD style in the Beam DBX instead of for the entire floor.
  13. I think a lot of Chief users do 3D framing views. It is very useful for checking structure and clarifying areas for contractors. Personally, I am finding all of this much faster in Chief than VW but this may be because I am old school and have rough paper sketches all done before I start in the computer.
  14. I am still not clear on what stays in a plan (template) when you delete things to do your new structure. I will have to try one but that will have to be after next week. I am hoping to get a couple designs out so I can actually leave the office and farm for 6 days.
  15. That so when you sink into the ocean the walls can withstand the water pressure and stay vertical??? I may join you in the sinking land when I retire :-)
  16. Chief still does the full shape in 3D, it is just the plan view that is changed. This is better than VWs. I used to hate the red lines in Elevation.
  17. Is that BC Bldg. Code Richard? We (in Sask.) can go to 14' before it is a Tall Wall that req's Engineering. Good to know if I do something out there before checking with my Inspector friend. BTW Everyone is going to tell you to post the plan:-)
  18. Perry You mean if I save it in defaults, it is only for that floor? Not much of a default then.... I was hoping to have this in my plan templates. If that is the case, I would like something in the dbx to do this instead because that is how I want it on all of my floor plans.
  19. Thank you Joe. I knew it was somewhere in the CAD defaults but just couldn't find it.
  20. I know there was a topic on this a while ago but I cannot find it here or in the resources. Maybe I just don't know how to search properly but I have tried for a while including a google search. I would like to show the beams as a single centre line in plan view. All I remember is there was a specific location to turn this on but I can't find it.
  21. I would still like to see what the truss company did that worked so well for the builder.
  22. That is what I am doing. Joey shared a plan and layout template with me and I have changed them up to suit. I have 3 jobs going based on this and am copy and pasting repeated items back and forth. This should give me a good start on my own company templates. I still need work on the different size layout templates but I just have to decide what will be the best method for me. Apologies to Terry... I seem to have gone off on a tangent from your original post.
  23. I am hoping CAD Details are on the agenda next week. I will start all of these new ideas once I get back home from the UGM with all my new found wealth of info. I have started my User library and have folders and subfolders already. I still have a ways to go with my plan template(s) because I'm still not sure how to handle the various job styles from laneway suites to commercial/residential buildings.
  24. "Warehouse Note Plan"!!!! Im sure I have had this explained to me before with some other options but it actually made sense to me this time. Thank you.
  25. Yes I did. As I said, no problem as long as the fascia heights are all equal. I thought she wanted the front garage fascia 12" lower. Obviously I misunderstood. I also thought the entire ceiling in the living room was to be 9'. Not sure about the sloping portions at the exterior walls.
