  1. With your computer spec's, I don't see it as a computer problem, something else is giving you problems, maybe an old program or windows update, who

knows. Network problem? Video card driver update?

  2. Perry:

I don't even have Chief Architect listed in the programs as a program to customize so I guess I am totally operating in default mode.

    You have to hit "ADD"

I am curious ... do you recall if you were actually able to notice any significant differences in ray trace results when you changed any of your settings?  If you did, do you recall what improvements you were able to achieve when you changed your settings?

Yes, I started doing this in X5 where I could spin a house with shadows on ( before they had fast shadows.

For number "1. Select a program to customize: ", does your program path end with "Cheif Architect Premier X6.exe"?

Yes that's the executable main chief program file.

I think it would be helpful if one of Chief's ray trace gurus would provide us with some advice on what Nvidia settings they have tweaked on their VC's and describe what improvements they got with the setting changes they made.

Yes but that might be hard to do as there are many different cards in play.

    Thanks

PS:  I think the new ChiefTalk has a glitch with the selection button you click on [More Reply Options] to enable posting images and attaching files.  I had typed in some text before deciding to add the images above; when I clicked on the button to expand my posting options, it took me back to the home page.  This has happened to me several times and it is very frustrating when it does.  Please, someone look into this as I believe I remember other members complaining about this as well.

  3. No Chief doesn't have any of this probably b/c everyone has a different computer and video card. My setting are just from experimenting with them.

You may find a different setting works better for you. You really can't make a mistake as you can always reset.

Also make sure you turn off "software edge smoothing" in the render DBX, let the card do it if you have a fairly new card.

  4. I turn off everything about software settings and let the hardware do its thing, If you have a newer card it better to let the hardware do it. I also set up Chief in the Nvidia control panel and just use the recomemended settings for the "Manage 3d section. It seems faster to me.

  5. Whatever layer set you use for your elevations, just change the line style to dotted for foundation walls and footings in that view. You can also set the line style on the layout view by using the edit lines and changing them there, but if you have to refresh the view you lose all the edits so its best to change it in the layer set you use to send it to the layout.

  6. I don't know, all I know is, I had to hire an electrician to fix it. That's how scary I am. Penny says she will never let me do that again, in fact she doesn't let me do a lot of things since 1976 when a lawn mower ran over my foot and split one sneaker in half, I didn't want to look at my foot

but had to and everything (my foot) was untouched.

  7. There are a lot of macro's in the program that you can't use in a text box. Sorry, not my expertise, but maybe those who can are following this thread. I know enough to be dangerous.  Another way to get those numbers you want is to create a simple p-line, outline the area , then open the DBX and it will give you the area of that p-line.

  8. Chief currently only has 1 line available for labels but you can create text label using text macro's in a text block. You may have to create your own macro's for surface and overhang though. There are some people her that could do that  ( Gerry) (Bill).

  9. Why not have the plywood cladding the outside layer of the main wall.

Then create a single layer framed wall for the battens. Bump this batten wall up against the main wall.

Set your framing defaults to suit the batten wall and build framing.

Select all the batten walls and check Retain Wall Framing.

If you need framing for the main wall, change the framing defaults and build framing.

You may need to clean up the odd bit of framing in the batten wall, but it will take account of openings, etc.

Any method that tries to build all the battens correctly is going to need editing because it will never be correct all the time.

It is easy to drag the battens around and edit them in a 3D or plan view.

How would gable end walls work and do they line up. Nice idea if it works. I try to play around with this idea.
