Print control by layer

Recommended Posts

I am not sure about everyone, but I jump around from project to project...ALOT. I have a layer that is a "design notes" which i store notes and leaders about thoughts I have as the design process goes. As i jump from project to project, i have to turn this layer on and off, It would be nice to be able to toggle layers that will not be sent to the printer. So i can just leave it on and make the corrections as a go. Anyone have a way to make this work better? Should i move this post to the suggestions? I am sure this would be a good add for anyone using revision clouds as well.

Thoughts?

I would like to see this too. No Print Layer. I have a layer in my details sheet that I use for snapping and alignment. I have made it such an obnoxious color that it is easy to remember to turn off when I see it printed by mistake.

Yeah, It would be great for guide lines on a layout sheet, aligning elevations....etc.

Currently I just draw cad lines and then delete them. Except for the cad lines I don't delete and then notice them after printing and then slam my fist on the keyboard and then order a new keyboard from Amazon.

Can you guys not just use "working" layer sets?  You can have any various layers turned on in those sets but turned off in the sets you send to layout.  This way you don't have to worry about deleting anything if you don't want to.

I looked at having "working" layer sets, but I would have to create a bunch, then have my annotation sets function correctly, and keep it maintained...#PIA. The other function this would serve would be collaboration. I have 4 people in my office, so if we could designate a layer in our plan files defaulted to design notes, we could then collaborate via that layer and never worry about printing the notes. It just seems like adding a control like this would be a great function. I spend enough time in emails, I would rather spend it adding designer notes to a plan, then send it John doe in finishes and the email will simply read "HERE IS THE PLAN, SEE NOTES FOR CHANGES, EMAIL/CALL FOR Q's"

Is there a way to show the hips/ridges of a roof either above or below using a reference layerset?  Am I missing something?  The edges of the roof appear (see pics) but the hips/ridges do not.  I've tried this with some of the Chief OOB templates...and I get the same result.

      Thanks...

      Hello!

I'm working on a huge plan right now, and it's starting to run really sluggishly so I decided to take some time out to troubleshoot and clean up the file a bit. I've done a few suggested things (purge unused materials and CAD symbols, for example), and moved on to my layers. When I started the file, I imported all individual layers of the CAD file so I could work on the plan bit by bit, but it also resulted in a lot of unnecessary data being added to the scene. I'm trying to go through and delete all the layers I don't need or have finished with, but most of them won't let me. Some will claim there's still something on them despite nothing showing up when I hit Control+A, and others will switch to "Used in defaults," after I deleted everything on them. But I don't know what that means, and I can't figure out where in the defaults they're being used so I can turn it off.

The layers that claim they aren't empty when they should be are bugging me, too. Control+A, zooming out and dragging a box over the scene never select anything for me to delete, but they still say "in use." I may be able to provide a back-up if necessary, though I'm not sure my company will allow it and, again, it's a very large plan. Can anyone help?

I am initiating a walkthrough  and all my Landscaping layers are not showing up. All the Layers are on in the plan view
that I initiate it from but they are off in the walkthrough. What am I missing & how do I fix this?

Has the Print Model function been removed from X11? I can't find it under the normal menu, File>Print>Print Model.
