HighwayMan55
Trying to put a closet in the split level entry on my as built home design (see area circled in first two photos). As per this post I have created my closet on the first floor, then changed the floor to match the elevation height of the landing. When I do this, the program seems to pull the exterior walls styles down from the First Floor over the basement pony walls exterior. How do I get it to not do that? This is the closet area in question: This photo is what the FF looks like before I change the closet floor elevation: This photo is what the FF looks like after I change the elevation: This photo shoes the basement after changing the closet elevation: OurHouseV2-1.plan
BrownTiger
Open your plan, 1st floor. select closet, open properties. In the structure replace Floor © value of 18" with 83 1/2". Enjoy
HighwayMan55
Brown Tiger, That would take my closet from the foyer level (which is 18") and put it back up to Floor 1 (which is 83.5"). That would fix the exterior, but then the foyer closet would not be accessible. In the photo posted below, you can see the closet in the foyer on the right. The room with the open door. rlackore
One option is to move the closet to the basement level. 1. Go to the first floor, select this wall, and make it No Room Definition: 2. Go to the basement and extend this wall over to the exterior. This creates the closet: 3. Open the new closet dbx and change the floor level to 1' 6", the Stem Wall to 12' 10", and the Floor Finish and Floor Structure to the appropriate values: These steps will give you a closet at the landing level while preserving the exterior walls:
Solution HighwayMan55 Posted March 21, 2016 Author Solution Share Posted March 21, 2016 Thank you Robert, I did what you suggested, but the problem that created was it took the from the basement underneath and rose it to the foyer level. I did get it to work, and here's how I did it: I started out by removing the wall adjoining the closet and foyer, making the closet area Open Below. I created a new landing on the basement level, and placed it at the same height of the landing. I then went back to the first floor and redrew the adjoining wall. I went into the elevation view facing the adjoining wall from the foyer side, clicked on it and used the grip to drag it to the foyer landing. And viola a closet on the landing! I could have also just extended the foyer landing into the closet space, but the closet has a different floor covering than the landing, so I had to create a separate landing to make that work. Then I went and deleted it all because I discovered other issues that need to get resolved first....
rlackore
I'm glad you answered your own question - sometimes experimenting is the best way to learn. Thank you Robert, I did what you suggested, but the problem that created was it took the from the basement underneath and rose it to the foyer level. Can you clarify the problem that was introduced by my solution? What was taken from the basement level and put at the foyer level? Here's a shot of my result: Perhaps my explanation was muddled.
