Arched Cabinet Help

Hi! I am trying to draw this arched cabinetry but keep getting stuck with how to put the arch doors onto the arched cabinet. I am following the Rabbit Design tutorial on Arched Cabinets but am still stuck. Both the cabinet and doors are windows. I have used the convert to symbol to make them cabinet doors but the dialog box still gives me the Window options when I try to change anything. I've spent significantly more time on this than I would like to admit. Grateful for any guidance/help.

I've not watched that tutorial from Rabbit Design so can't speak to that. Perhaps @Renerabbitt could help.

 

Out side of that you might have luck creating a custom symbol out of your pieces assemble the pieces and assemble into the finished shape, then convert the finished product into a symbol.

I did not watch Rene's video either but IF that is happening you must have inadvertently saved it as a window symbol and not a door.

I'll grant this was a bear though.

I used a pass thru to make the arched body. Set frame sides, top, bottom to 0". I placed it in 13" deep wall but can do other ways. Added a casing to make the cabinet frame.

Converted to a cabinet door symbol. Rotated the symbol in advanced setting and moved the y origin so could place in the back of the cabinet. (more on issues with that after door discussion)

 

The hard part was the offset sized doors.

I first tried with windows, then pass thru. I did get something from them but was not happy with the how the curves met.

Instead I used a polyline. I first tried with a CAD detail and converted to a pline, not so good.

Finally traced a pline box over bottom ending at the top of lower straight legs of the pass-thru in elevation;

stretched the one leg to the top corner of the curve;

converted that line to an arc, then converted that arc to a pline with a lot of points so the curve would be smoother. Now had a shape that would cover on half of the arch.

Converted to a solid 3/4" thick.

Move that. Over that drew two solids, one to the width of the wider door, another to the width of the narrow door, both taller and deeper than the arched solid. 

Set first of the new solids to overlap the arched solid front to back, move the other away with transform replicate (remember the distance you use).

Use subtraction retaining the original.

Moved the new now smaller solid out of the way. Move the solid used for subtraction out of the way and return the other back reversing transform replicate. Subtract. 

Now have both doors shapes as solids with nice smooth curves. Rotate each to be horizontal to the floor, (optional really as will do it anyway when in next step

Convert that solid to a countertop that is 1/4" with some molding that is whatever with you want for the frame of the door, I used 1-1/2 wide by 3/4", offset vertically by 1/4" and set to meet the edge. The 1/4" slab is going to show along the edge but not worth fussing with IMO.

Now convert each of the countertops to a cabinet door. Using advanced settings  rotate  and lock the width and height. 

 

Other problems.

There is no need to make different doors for each side. Chief will always hinge from the longer side, IOW it will rotate the door on you when you don't want it to. Hence can't match the hinging in the photo properly so will have to adjust hardware placement. The image uses the same doors on each side.

Second was getting the doors to sit properly in the frame. This could have been pilot error to begin with?

After a few attempts moving and resizing things, altered the bounding box of the symbol used in the back so it was the size of the frame and cut out the casing width (now the front rails and stiles of the cabinet). 

Oddly this only worked on one side, so I resized the overall cabinet down by 3" and voila. Doors all fit nicely. 

Sorry but I don't do videos but did include the plan with some of the stages and parts though I did start with another plan of failures.

Getting the doors to match the curve properly was the other bugaboos. I finally
