SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE

Recommended Posts

I can no longer afford to pay over $2,000 a year for a subscription service. Then to find out I can't use the software and I no longer have access to the program after paying for years.  I use it occasionally so I think X15 is the last SSA program that can continue to be used even without a subscription etc.  Does anyone know if this is true?    elainesdesign17@outlook.com is my email as I find this forum difficult to get answers

X14 was the last with a perpetual license before the change in Jan 2023 to subscription only.  However for users that had and maintained legacy SSA the last perpetual license is whatever they have at the point they decide to stop renewing legacy SSA (as I did being a DIYer user as per my thread https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/47000-sadly-the-current-sales-model-no-longer-fits-for-me/)

As CA also stopped license transfers other than for sold businesses if Chief is a declared asset with the switch to subscription in 2023, you may be stuck with whatever you last upgraded to prior to subscription.

I know this topic has made many rounds of discussion, and I've tried to accept and remain neutral. But my comment is this:

A company is defined by how it treats its long-term customers. It’s completely unreasonable that people like you and I who have helped build CA over the years through steady payments and by reporting bugs and suggesting new ideas, can’t pause our subscription and still use the version we last paid for (whether it was SSA or a subscription).

I’ve been with CA since its infancy, both personally and through my own companies. Recently, my wife was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. For the past eight months, our medical bills and care have made it nearly impossible for me to earn much money. I can’t afford the subscription right now because my drawing time is more limited - but I can’t use the program even a little bit to help us get through this. That shows a lack of genuine customer love and loyalty - it feels like greed.

In my specific case, I can’t go back to the last SSA version because it was purchased personally years ago and then purchased after that under a company name(s). So now CA goes by my personal account from years ago.

I'm a small company trying to provide for our home and my wife - approaching retirement with the hopes this would continue to be a nice income whereever I live.
